Fitness is the biggest issue here.

He's started just 30 league games for us since he signed, out of a possible 76. 12 goals and 8 assists in that time.

Though calculated in minutes, he's played 2,498 minutes in the Prem for us. So since signing, he is involved in a goal every 125 minutes.

Over that same period of time, Toney has played 4,444 minutes (bare in mind, he also missed half a season due to suspension) and has managed 24 goals and 6 assists. So a goal or assist every 148 minutes.. With 6 of those goals being penalties.

So yeah, Richy can't keep fit. But damn, if Toney is the answer. We're scraping the barrel. We have to be aiming higher if striker is the priority.
Take stats out of it. He’s not very good at anything. We need a striker that can hold it up,bring others into play, give centre backs issues with movement, can finish and ultimately stay fucking fit.

Who cares what his stats are when he’s not fit and had one good spell in 2 years. Keeping him screams mediocrity but then we moan when we are mediocre. Bonkers if anyone thinks this guy will turn into this top striker. Get him sold and use the money for someone who can actually contribute regularly.

Realistically, neither are good enough. Toney is bang fucking average. And wasting 40m+ on him would be one of the stupidest decisions we could make this summer. Spending upwards of 50m on Neto being the other.

I've never once experienced an Ange team thats used a striker to hold the ball up and be used to bring others into play.

They predominantly stay on the last line and press viciously. If it's a low block, they still lay on the last line and use their movement to get on the end of cut backs or the odd chance created by wingers who have committed the full back. Defoe would have been an absolute menace in this set up.

The wingers are the key to Ange ball working, not the striker.

"Brentford are ready to slash their asking price for Ivan Toney to less than £50million due to a lack of interest. Tottenham and West Ham are his most likely suitors [The Sun]"

Admittedly it's the Sun, but I don’t doubt Brentford will have to slash their Toney fee. Their model is based on selling their assets and reinvesting, can’t afford to lose him for nothing in a year.

Highly doubt he’d have much interest from abroad. Us and United were his most likely suitors and United have just bought Zirkzee. He wouldn’t be interested in a sideways move to Spam.

We basically have a free run at him, unless Chelsea/Woolwich decide they’re interested late on in the window, but I think they're looking elsewhere.

I reckon it happens but probably not for a while. Maybe deadline day.
Need to do it asap and get get him on tour.

It doesn’t matter if that’s the style or not but they have to be able to contribute other than standing in the box for cut backs. When against low blocks we need players and I include the centre forward in that to be able to take the ball in and create something from themselves. We only score the same goal over and over. We need different options, not just a fucking plank of wood doing nothing till the ball comes in the six yard box. We play with ten men with richy and Sonny as the 9. Toney offers so much more and I’m not saying he’s a world beater but he has so many different parts to his game that would give us other options while attacking.
I want Gyokeres but that likely won’t happen.

And they’ve already bought his replacement.

The striker has to be able to score though. If we don’t buy a striker and muddle through the season with Richy and Son as our 9 options then I guarantee those that don’t want Toney will be the same complaining by December that we aren’t attacking well enough and they’ll be the reason as striker.

Well, it sort of does matter.

If Ange isn't wanting his striker to get involved in build up (like his strikers don't tend to) and instead wants the 8s and the full backs high up instead with the wingers stretching and opening up the play, then it's a pointless debate.

It doesn't matter what you want or think we need.

There's a reason plenty of people thought Kane wouldn't suit Angeball. And he's one of the best in world football at doing exactly what you're describing.

I reckon we'll get David in, personally. Because not only is his hold up play and bringing others into the game an improvement on what we have, he's a much more consistent finisher than Richarlison. He's not the greatest (but again you don't need to be in this system) - It also doesn't really slow down the development of the future strikers we have.
