Ange's previous systems at Celtics and Yokohama, with the exception of Furuhasi, the goals output for OZ's system was largely from wide strikers. Ange's previous interviews have mentioned a lot about his love for winger types as Daizen Maeda or especially Teruhito Nakagawa (a winger with a style very similar to Pedro Neto). I wouldn't be surprised to see Ange use Son as the way he played Furuhasi at Celtic, determined with Neto and recruited a LW who can play directly as a third attacker.

Well, it sort of does matter.

If Ange isn't wanting his striker to get involved in build up (like his strikers don't tend to) and instead wants the 8s and the full backs high up instead with the wingers stretching and opening up the play, then it's a pointless debate.

It doesn't matter what you want or think we need.

There's a reason plenty of people thought Kane wouldn't suit Angeball. And he's one of the best in world football at doing exactly what you're describing.

I reckon we'll get David in, personally. Because not only is his hold up play and bringing others into the game an improvement on what we have, he's a much more consistent finisher than Richarlison. He's not the greatest (but again you don't need to be in this system) - It also doesn't really slow down the development of the future strikers we have.
For as much as we have a style of play there will be many times the ball goes into the striker and we lose it. Just imagine we had someone who can actually control it and take us up the pitch. Toney can do that. Kane would have been brilliant in our system.
David has a wee bit of everything about him and is mobile.

We actually don’t get our 8s in the box enough because it breaks down with our front three far too often. Fix those three positions with better quality and I guarantee you our 8s get among the goals more often.

On Richarlison/Toney:

I’d sell Richarlison on a heartbeat BUT the only clubs that would pay a reasonable fee are in Saudi and the vibe is abundantly clear that he won’t go there. SO WON’T HAPPEN. I’d say we’re probably stuck with him for another year at least. We could buy an expensive striker and marginalize Richi but that comes with its own drawbacks regarding morale and optics.

I’d buy Toney (whom I regard as a minor upgrade) BUT only at a reduced price — no more than £30m or so— and I’d only offer him a 2 year contract as a placeholder for Lankshear SO HE WOULD NEVER ACCEPT under my terms. A 30-31 year old Toney is going to be an albatross and as hard to move as Richi.
Having one of Richy or Toney most likely to be fit most likely helps cure out defensive set piece woes too, which only really started when Richy got injured. Toney in particular could really fill that Kane role of attacking the near post.

Tried it with Sonny and he’s not brave enough with his back to goal and went missing in games it gave it away all the time.

Let's he honest mate.... the copy paste jobs from the naysayers about every single.link we have to a shite player are just, if not more boring.

Every link it's the same bollox

You're not on my ignore list but I know you have something ready to go for when we sign a donkey like McFred.
What ya got?

We should be greatful someone would swap the might Man U for Spurs?
Shows how much progress we've made that we can take a player they hardly use from them?
Guys got 52 caps for his country - must be great?

I agree we need a striker.

But I see no point signing someone older than Richarlison who isn't all that much better. If we could get Toney for say 15-20m. Then yes, of course I'd take him.

But there's plenty of strikers out there who have good movement and can get on the end of chances we provide if we aren't willing to overspend.

I’ll trust you on that, I’ve no clue who. But if we sold Richy for £60m and bought Toney for £40m then I think that’s good business.

I think this could be smart. Can play left or right. Cheap fee as well. Not much knowledge of Juventus the last few years but was ridiculously good Euro 2021 and arguably one of their better players this summer. Feels like it might be a bit of a Van Der Vaart signing.

I worry about that injury though. Hasn't looked the same player since, and he's already 26.

So 75M for a decent player is fair market value and well within our budget

Why wouldn’t we do it

I get you, even agree to an extent, but can you honestly say he's a £75M player?

I know you and others want a striker, but have you seen enough of him to believe he's a needle mover? A£75M outlay absolutely needs to move the needle. I know three fifths of fuck all about Gyokeres, so I have no idea if he would.

Be that as it may, I was more alluding to the fact that Utd have been utter tripe in identifying good players, then paying massively over the top for the absolute shite they've gotten. So they're not really a good comparison when it comes to paying out vast sums of money.

Potentially relevant to our striker search. Think it's probably too early but if he has a really good tour, who knows...

I was impressed yesterday. People tend to diminish the performance of the youngsters yesterday as they played against Hearts, but that's a group of grown man professional footballers against kids and our most expericed players were very uninspiring against the same lot. Lankshear was very good yesteday, very composed, always in the right place, this guy has something special about him and his last season in the u-21 speaks volumes. Same can also be said about some of the other kids that played yesterday.

There is a serious lack of quality number 9’s out there just now. Look at the Euros. Who was the best one? Georgian guy who I’m not going to attempt to spell. Then after him? Fucked if I can think of anyone that played well. But for a ropey handball and an inch here or there, Lukaku wins the golden boot.

Couple this with us playing quite well in the last couple of games last season without a recognised 9 and maybe we are looking to do that as either plan A, or plan B when Richarlison is inevitably injured.

Not one of the links we have so far to a 9 excites me. Talk to me about Osimhen or Martinez and my ears prick up. Otherwise, I’d be ok with Toney at a push.
Couple that with the fact that own goals was streets ahead the highest scorer in the Euro's. What won it, 3 goals? Isn't that the lowest tally ever for a Euro's Golden boot?
