Market is more or less dead still

Woolwich big signing is Raya (agreed as loan last summer),
Liverpool - nobody,
Man U - Zirkzee
Man city - nobody

So apart from a few clubs playing ffp games, its pretty dead for everyone.

I'd suggest that Gray is probably the outstanding transfer in of the window so far - even though I admit to a certain amount of bias.

Causes of the market being dead are a combination of ffp fears in many clubs plus euros/copa timing, nothing Spurs specific.

Villa have done 8?transfers

UTD Zirkzee, Yoro, getting closer to Ugarte

The market is not dead mate. Liverpool and City haven't made any first-team transfers yet but they don't have the same needs and urgency as we do. We have 25 points to catch up on city. It's not the time for being relaxed and waiting to see what the market does. There is no way to avoid the fact that they wanted business done by now and it's clearly behind schedule. Doesn't mean they won't get things done but as I've said all summer, that Werner transfer tells us a lot about the budget this summer, as does the idea of Spence earning a chance to stay.

I don't know a lot about Gyokeres, but I did watch a lot of Mexico national team the last couple months, and I really, really hope we don't sign Gimenez- imo he definitely did not look up to the standard for playing in the Prem.

I like Ange's system. For it to work we need to be scoring more goals. The number of points dropped last season due to slow play, missed chances and no hold-up play was what held us back.

With our style of play we need to get early goals as we will give away chances. If we don't teams will sit back and frustrate us. Any team who can beat the press are on us in no time. We have to be taking those early chances. Then we can dictate the play and slow it down if need be.

I really hope we can get a couple of forwards in. Gyokeres looks to be the kind of striker we could use. Strong hold-up play and quite quick from what I have seen.

I like Richi for the effort and it was great to see him turn it around after his mental health issues. But, I don't think he can do it consistently over a full season, plus his injuries. I'd love to get Gyokeres but I think it would be one or the other. So if 60m is on the table for Richi, I would say take it.

Arse on the cusp of Calafiori also.
Agree though Just because some clubs are moving slow doesn't mean the market is dead, or we shouldn't be bothered and just relax until they start making more moves. If anything it gives us a chance to start the season in a stronger position than our rivals by integrating our new players before them

At some point, we have to be the market makers and have the balls to do it. Can't just sit back and let the big clubs do it and then complain that they overpay so the market is bloated.

I agree with the early goal point. If we can get on top of a team early we can swarm them with wave after wave of attacks. Always remember the Gerrard slip season that Rodgers Liverpool side were so brilliant at scoring early either through Suarez brilliance or a set piece and they would just overwhelm teams.

If Barca can't pull the Levers then PSG are one of the few clubs that will compete with them for wages. Can't see Williams going there but it would show that PSG want a bigger name to replace Mbappe and maybe aren't as hot on Doue as was reported.

If I was guessing we really were looking at Doue but all the interest from Bayern and PSG did was pump his price past where we wanted to go.

To say we need more goals is an obvious thing to say.

But this is what Ange's system is designed for. Our front three just didn't give us enough last season and I hope we can upgrade this summer.

Playing Sonny as a CF didn't help matters much either.

Doubt very much that, the club will go for Gyokeres whether the manager wants him or not.
Just can't see the club dropping over 70m on him when, in the last few days of the window, the club will try and bid for toney at a reduced rate.
Probably get knocked back but, they tried will be the angle.
Club is as normal, very slow in putting the team together for the management.

Sure, “we need to score more” is pretty obvious! I just mean if we are gonna go back to the super intense way we were playing earlier on in the season having that foot on the opponent’s throat is crucial. That’s why it’s so annoying that Ange won’t get in a set piece specialist. Such an easy way to open up a game like the Scum did so often last season.

Think you're looking in the wrong column. A few more goals wouldn't hurt, obviously, but the goals conceded was absolutely unacceptable.
Everything’s all related though. We kept opponents interested in too many games by being profligate last season. Become more efficient in front of goal then opponents will open up and play more, giving us more opportunities to kill games off, save energy, press in bursts better, all equaling less goals conceded. We know our back five are all really good players, it’s lots of facets of our game that will tighten up the goals against column.

He said the other day that he was comfortable with the situation so he probably understands why we haven't done more business, anyway using this window in comparison with previous windows is kinda disingenuous - the vast majority of our rivals who are normally good at recruitment haven't done much business (Ars, Liv, New, City) that tells you a it's own story that the market is dead right now and probably due to the Intl tournaments this Summer.

The thing is no-one really knows who are targets are and no-one really knows how far down the line we are with them, not sure we can say he's been let down with 0 context - it seems the only people who've been let down are the fans because of their expectations.

Good post mate.
