Here's where I see our depth chart right now:

ST: Son // Richy // ??? #1 // Kulu (?) // Veliz // Scarlett // Donley // Lankshear
RW: Johnson // Kulu // ??? #2 // Moore // Solomon
LW: Werner // Son // Richy // Moore // Solomon // Maddison // Kulu
CAM: Maddison // Kulu // Bergvall // Devine // Donley
CM: Sarr // Bentancur // Bissouma // Gray // Bergvall // Skipp // Devine
LB: Udogie // VdV // Davies // Spence // Skipp // Donley (?)
RB: Porro // Spence // Gray // Dragusin (?)
CB: Romero // VdV // Dragusin // Davies // Gray // Skipp // Phillips (?)
GK: Vicario // Austin (?) // ??? #3

Basically it looks to me like we have need for depth at RW, then ST, and also at GK, and potentially not much else. A Jonathan Davids type player that could do the Richy ST // LW thing at ST // RW would be excellent for giving us balance and depth in attack.

Moore and Devine look like they will have significant roles with the first team. Skipp would appear to have a useful role as a depth option at LB and LCB, and it looks as if Gray could be used similarly on the right if the preseason matches are any indication of Ange's future plans. Spence too would appear to have a signficant role providing depth at either FB position, as well as likely being Porro's primary backup.

If we get another RW // ST attacker in it looks like Veliz wouldn't get enough games to justify keeping with the team and should be sent on loan. Same goes for Scarlett, Donley, Lankshear, and probably Phillips too.

The loss of Skipp can probably be absorbed without too much issue but keeping Devine or purchasing another CM becomes a must in that scenario.

Figuring out what becomes of the backup keeper role is definitely something that is of understated importance. Would you really trust Austin to be our keeper for Prem and Cup matches if god forbid something were to happen to Vicario? A loan for an experienced older keeper could be wise while giving Austin the Carling Cup matches to assess his suitablility for a bigger role with the first team. Could parlay into a nice 2nd half of season loan move too if it's decided he needs more experience.

We have the look of a really interesting potentially exciting squad this next season. Without another purchase in attack though we could potentially be in for a rough time as we wait for Veliz and Moore to develop. For Levy to properly hedge his bets and preserve a strong bargaining position in summer 2025 when Son is likely to need replacing, he needs to buy this season, now, as he is not likely to be in a weaker market with a stronger bargaining position than present= Son will have declined a bit further and he would have gambled on either Veliz becoming a legitimate premier league threat or Kulu successfully being transitioned into a False 9 role.

Not signing another attacker would probably be a negative sign of ambition to Romero that we aren't looking to be truly competitive in the Top 4 or title race, and would likely be a hindrance towards any attempts to get him to sign a new contract, likely leading to an approach and bid from RM next summer.

Pretty sure this is the first time a coach has had a 2nd summer transfer window since Poch in the 15/16 season.
We made a net profit of £12.5m that season (summer + winter windows)

TBF, we made £10m the season before (Poch's first)

I wouldn't be surprised if the club MO though is to back a manager fairly heavily in his first season and then tail off in the 2nd and 3rd.

So just because we had a net spend of £100m last season, don't assume it'll be the same this. Especially as last season it was absolutely essential the squad was upgraded. Too many players were well past their best and basically worthless, so a spend up was the only option.

We were 25 points off 1st last season. A striker and a winger ain't catching that many points up. The goal has to be top 4 and narrow the gap to around 10 points. This will be a tough season, there are 8 decent teams trying for 6 spots to play in CL or Europa.

Newcastle and Man U will be better than last season. No European games this season helps them. Newcastle had an even worse injury run than we did and Man U couldn't score any goals. The top 2 from last year will be strong again. Chelsea are a weird squad, very inconsistent, they started playing decent in the back half of the season. Liverpool might take time to get going under new manager and Villa might struggle with CL.

We seem to have better depth than last season but will need it with Europa. A couple of big signings that can help our starting team is what we need to push for top 4.

But improving our front line will help us defend from the front better. However I think we are way too open in the spaces in front of the fullbacks and will get caught out time and again there like last season if we use the same tactics. The midfield is just asked to do too much work to cover those spaces at PL level. If this isnt rectified then I doubt we will even be as high as last year as we had such a good opening to the season and we won’t do that again this time around.

And we had the Kane money. Without that do we do anywhere near as much?

(despite the fact we’ve hundreds of millions coming in from matchday income and tv deals)

I think that is why we got linked to Gallagher who is the statistically the best ball winning midfielder in the league in the final third and Ederson from Atlanta. Our 4-3-3 system has some similarities to Klopp, we need

- tall, fast powerful CB’s - we have this
- a mobile front line that can press, link and retain possesion - don’t have
- midfield that can press in behind - partly have

Our forward line isn’t good enough.

Defence - fine need another LB/LCB but the starting is great with Dragusin and Spence as back up for CB and RB.

Midfield - Gray and Bergvall could be gems, Bentancur should be back to his best. We probably need another AM to help Maddison but not too concerned.

Attack - Moore is probably 1-2 years from elite, Son and Johnson are good goalscorers but we lack a winger who holds the ball well, wins 1v1 consistently and links to a level like Saka or Neto etc. As for CF Richarlison is ok but he is always injured so ideally an upgrade on him if he is leaving for Saudi.

Our aim should be to compete with City and Arse and we are at least 3 good players away from that. Our style is good long as we build for it. I am enjoying us trying to play attacking football again.
My point is that we should be using the academy players right now.

Put Lankshear as striker and Moore as RW.

We're trying to develop a title winning team over 2-3 years.

All gone quiet on him. He's presumably still on holiday though. When he gets back I think it will either him signing a new contract or if that doesnt happen pretty quickly, then clubs like us are going to wait until the last day of the window and try and get him then as cheap as possible.

I still think we'll end up with either Gallagher or Ramsey. Only the club knows why, it just feels like the sort of opportunistic signing we make, even if they're not especially needed.

Add Neto and a left back and i reckon thats it unless we sell Richarlison, then it will probably be Toney late in the window when Brentford get twitchy.

Too much of the window has drifted by to suddenly bring in 5 or 6. I doubt the coaching team would want the disruption with the first game in 3 weeks.

But if Rennes are in no rush and the player is also keen to wait and see if PSG or Bayern come on line, then we need to move on and get our business done so Doue probably isn't happening. Ange has said repeatedly that he wants players who understand the challenge of winning at this club and want to be here.

That type of player would be ready to commit without waiting for PSG.
Young players will need opinions from their families not only on matters related to competition. The player's family can receive a large amount of money if the transfer value is good. In addition, it is related to the lives of the players in the future. He signs a signature for 5 or more years for his career, with many different offers. His current club knows that too. Like many other deals, every player has different competition from contractors, if you aren't the best one, of course, you will get fewer incentives.
Just like Eze, are you sure we are the number 1 choice in his mind? And you're sure he doesn't think he's capable of attracting the attention of clubs like MC or Woolwich? And surely they don't pay attention to Eze? I love Eze so much but in reality, I'm always skeptical that Eze is waiting for an offer from the MC or especially Woolwich. He doesn't need to rush his decision, like Doue

We kind of did last summer though. Only Vicario, Maddison and Solomon had been bought by now.

Although funnily enough, I think we actually need more players in than last summer, so I do agree with you.

We play inverted fullbacks, which ,earns the centrebacks have to cover them in wide areas, which means the centre of our defence is weakened. Therefore we need an out and out defensive midfielder to cover the central defenders. Bentamcur can play there as can Skipp and Bissouma but imho none of those are sufficiently solid enough. Work out who the best in that position is and spend whatever it takes. Same as centre forward.
