That's the thing though, this isn't the Scottish league where, you can win by 3/4 goals a game, down here that doesn't happen.
Will be interesting to see if, any lessons have been learnt and, the team tightens up defensively.
Dragging Will be ok, but we could do with defensive cover, but it depends on what the club feels is a priority.
Securing top six has to be the aim again.
I thought Ange couldn’t care about top 4 , 5 this and that? He said he wants to go for the title this season but has so far shown no real coaching tactical accumen. Both city and goons scored more than us and let a far less. They still play attacking football. His talking reminds me of the liberals in the 80s when David steel said go home and prepare for government. They could say whatever they wanted they knew they would never get power.

We play high risk football that’s true.

It’s a shit ton less risky when you have Udogie and VDV with pace to recover and Romero to step up and win the first out ball on the break.

When we had our first choice defense all fully fit we didn’t even concede that many goals last year
Let’s hope so but we did for most of the run in bar few games at the end when destiny was injured.

I think last season was a B+

Started playing attractive football and scored lots of goals, the back half was a bit of a letdown but we didn't have the players to replace the non-performing midfield.

Now we've got Bergvall and Gray as midfield alternatives.

We've already got enough alternatives on the wings (Son/Werner & Johnson/Kulu), they are all good at providing crosses into the middle.

Defence wise, we have a great back four. Dragusin is itching for more involvement & keep Spence.

Promote Lankshear, Moore, Phillips and Hall to the first team and we're cooking with gas.

It wouldn't worry me if we don't sign any more players.

The nucleus is there for success.
You must be in another world about the forwards. Even Ange recognised that it needed improving.

I don't get it either mate :roflmao:

I've said it before, I'm convinced our fan base will be used as a case study by future generations of budding psychologists.

You'd have thought when rival fans started chanting "Daniel Levy, we want you to stay" the penny would have finally dropped 🤷‍♂️.....But no. The most extreme just dug in and entrenched themselves even further.

Anyway. We'll be accused of taking the thread off topic. (Even though Levy himself is the most instrumental figure in our transfer strategy) :roflmao:
Stop derailing the transfer thread.

Yes mate. Course mate.

Levy's policy of buying players to improve our team over the last quarter of a century has done wonders for our trophy cabinet hasn't it, mate.

:ange-facepalm2:
so has he bought players to improve the team or not?

out of curiosity, is 2007/08 a dream season for you cause we won the league cup?

did you enjoy that season over say 16/17?

genuine Question I'd love you to answer. You prob wont.

Here's where I see our depth chart right now:

ST: Son // Richy // ??? #1 // Kulu (?) // Veliz // Scarlett // Donley // Lankshear
RW: Johnson // Kulu // ??? #2 // Moore // Solomon
LW: Werner // Son // Richy // Moore // Solomon // Maddison // Kulu
CAM: Maddison // Kulu // Bergvall // Devine // Donley
CM: Sarr // Bentancur // Bissouma // Gray // Bergvall // Skipp // Devine
LB: Udogie // VdV // Davies // Spence // Skipp // Donley (?)
RB: Porro // Spence // Gray // Dragusin (?)
CB: Romero // VdV // Dragusin // Davies // Gray // Skipp // Phillips (?)
GK: Vicario // Austin (?) // ??? #3

Basically it looks to me like we have need for depth at RW, then ST, and also at GK, and potentially not much else. A Jonathan Davids type player that could do the Richy ST // LW thing at ST // RW would be excellent for giving us balance and depth in attack.

Moore and Devine look like they will have significant roles with the first team. Skipp would appear to have a useful role as a depth option at LB and LCB, and it looks as if Gray could be used similarly on the right if the preseason matches are any indication of Ange's future plans. Spence too would appear to have a signficant role providing depth at either FB position, as well as likely being Porro's primary backup.

If we get another RW // ST attacker in it looks like Veliz wouldn't get enough games to justify keeping with the team and should be sent on loan. Same goes for Scarlett, Donley, Lankshear, and probably Phillips too.

The loss of Skipp can probably be absorbed without too much issue but keeping Devine or purchasing another CM becomes a must in that scenario.

Figuring out what becomes of the backup keeper role is definitely something that is of understated importance. Would you really trust Austin to be our keeper for Prem and Cup matches if god forbid something were to happen to Vicario? A loan for an experienced older keeper could be wise while giving Austin the Carling Cup matches to assess his suitablility for a bigger role with the first team. Could parlay into a nice 2nd half of season loan move too if it's decided he needs more experience.

We have the look of a really interesting potentially exciting squad this next season. Without another purchase in attack though we could potentially be in for a rough time as we wait for Veliz and Moore to develop. For Levy to properly hedge his bets and preserve a strong bargaining position in summer 2025 when Son is likely to need replacing, he needs to buy this season, now, as he is not likely to be in a weaker market with a stronger bargaining position than present= Son will have declined a bit further and he would have gambled on either Veliz becoming a legitimate premier league threat or Kulu successfully being transitioned into a False 9 role.

Not signing another attacker would probably be a negative sign of ambition to Romero that we aren't looking to be truly competitive in the Top 4 or title race, and would likely be a hindrance towards any attempts to get him to sign a new contract, likely leading to a sure bid and approach from RM next summer.
Why send Philips out on loan and keep Davies. The guy is built like the proverbial xxxx house. Has looked decent in games so far. I can’t see any downside in giving him the experience and exposure to first team football. Why keep going with Davies who should have been moved on a while back. He is not the future.

Phillips looks miles off being at his prime - inwould loan him and give him 50 games

not mad on Cowlin in truth, didn't say anything outrageous or anything, just don't like him being our "fan representative."
Agree. 13 years yesterday since the TFC pod started.

Because Phillips needs to be playing week in week out for his development. Taking the Davies 4/5 choice CB role he is not going to get this and we end up killing young players like we have before by keeping them around and not playing them

He ain't winning the title this season or next, and yes to win one you need a defence as good as OJ Simpson had.
We probably will score more goals this season, but unless, he can address the defensive issues then it will be similar to last year.
