I just think they are very different number 10's and both fantastic players.

Maddison at his best, like we saw at times last season, can run the game picking the ball up deep and moving it, and is very effective in the final third also.

Eze we know is a ball carrier and can beat a man - but from a central position, if he played wide left he would be cutting in constantly

No issue with having both - but looking at the numbers we already have in the squad, i don't see how we would then make room for another wide player and a central striker. The numbers don't add up, we'd need to shift another 3 or 4.

I think Eze is a much better footballer than Maddison tbh. Does seem abit overkill but Ange seems to want it so who knows what he's got up his sleeve.

I don't think we'll be signing a striker unless Richarlison leaves anyway.

And if we end up signing one whilst he is here, it'll be a £20m depth option like Jonathan David anyway.

Which leaves us money to also sign a winger. Probably one who plays right wing though.

It's quite obvious left side is done for this summer. Son will be out there. Werner is depth and Moore will come on throughout the year until next season when he takes Werners spot permanently (if he hasn't already by then)

Soldado would have worked perfectly fine for a team that would get crosses into the box.

We sold Gareth Bale and AVB decided to coach us to just aimlessly pass round the middle of the field and create sweet fuck all for one of the deadliest finishers in Europe.

Didn't help that his partner had a miscarriage and he was pretty much done mentally the moment he arrived.

Funnily enough, the Soldado from Valencia would have been the perfect striker for Ange. Work tirelessly hard pressing, not bad link up play and gets on the end of crosses provided by the widemen
I don’t want to rehash my arguments from 10 years ago but I found Soldado to be lazy as fuck; He wasn’t a high intensity player at all FOR Spurs, he didn’t press much.

People kept blaming the service and making all kinds of excuses for him, but Adebayor (under Sherwood at least) and then Kane scored at a good rate with the same players around them!

The Soldado experience is why I want nothing to do with Santiago Jiminez or Jonathan David.

Never seen another Spurs player achieve so little but given so much rope because of his previous reputation.

I think his head not being in the right place following losing his unborn child is a pretty relevant excuse.

It's no surprise when he left Spurs his ability to score goals never returned. He was done. Mentally ruined.

I’m not completely convinced by Maddison either. He seems a bit of a fanny.

I think on his day, he's excellent. Really surprised me just how good he was in pre season and the early start of last season.

But he's limited. He's not particularly strong, cannot really beat a man and is far too easy to wind up.

But football is a squad game. Having Eze and Maddison battling it out for a place on the pitch (and even perhaps starting together in games) is a huge plus.

He got a terrible knee injury pretty soon after we sold him to Villarreal. That was bad luck and the biggest cause for his decline.

He was already struggling before his wife suffered the miscarriage, which is terrible, but I feel like he gets given so much excuses compared to others.

Aurier playing for us 3 days after his brother was murdered didn’t stop people criticising him and that’s one example.

To be honest, if we signed Eze I assumed it's probably because Ange thinks he's a better fit for his team and the set up than Maddison is.

Hence why we're also in the market for a winger (Neto, Chiesa links etc)

I highly doubt that we would agree to sign Maddison a year ago, pay £40m for him stick him on £170k a week and make him vice captain only to turn around a year later and say there's a player who fits better in this team.

And I don't see how he is a better fit anyway, it doesn't alleviate our issue of breaking down low blocks or moving the ball quicker.

I do think that Ange is probably looking at him to play with Maddison or maybe just put him on the wing in some matches, I don't believe that he will earmark him for a specialist role, could be wrong though. 🤷‍♀️

Maddison and Eze are both talented creative players who have different ways of breaking opposition down (Maddison passing, Eze dribbling).

Could they not play together in midfield? City play KDB and Foden together.

Ie:
Eze Sarr Maddison midfield in starting XI
Bergvall Bissouma Bentancur Gray as rotation options.

Yeah that’s why I want to sign him. When we were good last season at the start Maddison was leading the press. He was kind of playing the same position Eze was at Palace. I think buying him would definitely make us stronger. But he isn’t a winger or 8, yet he improves the squad. An expensive way of doing it however.

I would just say when I’ve watch him live he’s never really stood out to me. Admittedly that’s only twice when we played them at home the last two times. He scored that great free kick against us but apart from that he was fairly anonymous.

Archie Gray saying in an interview with Allie Gold that he's played LB a couple of times in this preseason training

We know Spence played LB maybe half a dozen times at Leeds as Archie Gray was playing RB for Leeds at the time.

And Jamie Donley played LB in a couple of preseason games.

Looks like more LB depth than I knew of, at least in emergencies.

He had a good career after Spurs, albeit not prolific

what makes you think he is that much better?
