It gets mildly frustrating seeing this idea from Spurs fan that we "shouldn't panic" as there's over a month left in the window.

This is an idea that we were supposed to be growing out of as a club. We know the importance of pre season when it comes to integrating new signings and working on the squad for the coming season, and we have completely written that off. Trying to build a squad on the fly after the seasons started does not end well for the most part.

Don't forget what the manager said in June. Forget him toeing the line now and saying that he's calm.. In June, he was pretty clear that he wanted a few signings in before pre season, because he knows the importance of that time.

And for this idea that "they're not the ones delaying". This club, for the most part, has moved like death when it comes to doing business for as long as we can remember. Giving this club the benefit of the doubt is nothing more than blind faith.

I mean he didn't, what he actually said is that he wanted signings in 'as early as possible'...Spurs fans read that as he wanted signings in before pre season exclusively - When early isn't possible then there's nothing you can do about that.

The most important thing here is to look at the manager, read his comments and his current demeanour, is he frustrated by the lack of activity? probably yes but it seems to me that this isn't down to the club, his comments over the past few weeks have backed that up and he even said he's comfortable with the current situation and basically said we need to be patient...if the manager is putting out those kind of noises then there's no reason for the fans to moan or panic.

If you actually read between the lines it looks to me like we've settled on our long term targets and that tells me we have a strategy in place so equating this situation to when we used to buy punts and hope for the best is pointless, I suppose we can buy some players in now just to appease the fanbase but I'm not sure the manager would approve.

TLDR - Manager is chilled so fans ought to be chilled as well.

People who follow the academy really like him, but he's 21 with no real experience with men's football, so it wasn't really in the cards for him at Spurs.

He was pretty average up until last season where he quite clearly went up a level or two.

But then again, everyone did. System was an excellent fit for the youth team.

Issue is, like you say, he's 21 years old, hasn't played men's football and other youth around the squad are worth much more time investing in.

Yago Santiago is moving to Elche on a permanent. I wish him the best, he obviously wasn't in Ange's plans but by all reports he's a talented player. Also, it's another deal no-one saw coming, Lange is running a tight ship.
A major domino has now fallen

Watch everything fall into place , 4 new signings by the end of the week

I didn't say it was last minute, but it was exactly the same wasn't it? Both Johnson and VDV were done late, after the tour, people were incredibly antsy, and started to come up with scenarios where we only sign Lenglet on loan.

I loved the 'VDV will never ever EVER be able to integrate into the team without a full pre-season wahhhh wahhhh wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'

Ahh. OK.
Good point.

Let's go, guys

Where to, the new kit thread? Do one need to bring the popcorn??

He’s free so it’s a cheap option.

Also recency bias.
How can you have recency bias on a player who has basically never played for us?

Missed 17 games the year before we signed him with a knee injury and played more than 75 minutes 6 times.

Missed 33 Games through a knee injury last year.

How can you have any bias apart from in the last two years he has missed more than a seasons worth of football and even when fit is unlikely to complete 90 minutes.

Personally I think anyone who thinks we should keep him needs to be checked that injury record tells me to dispose as quickly as possible.

I'll concede that I misremembered. His comments in Melbourne said nothing about before pre-season. He referenced about wanting them in early.

However, the core point is the same. My main point was that he was referencing the importance of having time to work with new players. Time that he's not going to have.

Now, having the attitude of "hey, the managers calm, so I should be calm", would be a pretty admirable position to take, if we hadn't seen this before. You cannot ignore the context of history. We had a manager not too long ago that was pretty chill when he kept getting let down. He was even pretty calm when we signed nobody in the summer of 2018. He even said a lot of the things Postecoglou said this summer about "not just signing anybody" etc. Most managers aren't Conte, De Zerbi, Mourinho level lunatics, that will cause trouble out in the open. For the most part, just because a managers seems relaxed doesn't necessarily mean that there's no cause for frustration.

That also then doesn't mean that the logical conclusion is to melt down and write off the season and say we're not signing anybody. But I also don't think we can pretend that everythings going to be fine and there's no cause for worry.

I wouldn't read too much into that, just as likely a case that nobody cared, rather than Lange working day and night to keep this deal super top secret...
