At the end of last season, the talk was about improvement. football London have named the team they expect to line up against Leicester
Vic, Porro. Romero, van der Ven, Udogie
Biss, Sarr, Maddison
Kula, Richie, Son
Every one of them were here last season. So where is the improvement. The new kids may well break into the side later in the season and we may get players in later in August but I was expecting at least 1 new player to start the first match. Football London normally have a good idea of selection.
Can't see much change to the line up on the opening day.

Genuinely perplexed by the weird faith people have in the even weirder looking Lange character. I've never looked at his work at Villa and thought this bloke is the business. And the he moves like a Ninja in the shadow crap is even funnier. It amounts to one line for Gold.. Strange AF fanbase 🤔
To be fair to him. A fair few of villas best players were bought by him.

Last season some had very good seasons.
Watkins 40 G/A's
Bailey 27G/A's

Martinez is an excellent keeper

Decent full backs In Digne, Moreno and Cash(apologies).

Also kamara and Traore(think he's gone now)had decent seasons beforehand among some others.

When he went there they survived the drop by 1 point. They now competing for European football again.

Obviously it's not all down to Lange, Emery has done a fantastic job.

But Lange didn't do bad and he ultimately left Villa in a better state than when he arrived.

(I left out their signings from start of last season as not sure how much influence he had on them)

Well, journalists have been reporting for months that we're interested in Eze and Neto.

So perhaps that's exactly what we're doing?
That would transform our starting 11 I don’t get fans who keep going on about Netos injury record. At wolves he was prbly rushed too early on occasions. With our squad we can manage his game time much better. Look at Werner he missed the run in last season and we still got him on another one year loan. Any player can get injuries. I guess we just need to make sure his not playing when injured and manage him better. He is by far the most talented wide we have been linked with his just the sort of spurs players have had over the years. Add exe and we have that real sprinkle of stardust.

Thing is with Richarlison he isnt really a centre forward. Made his name at Watford and Everton as a left wing forward who put in a lot of effort, scored around 8/10 a season and was a nuisance to defenders. Only really went to CF at Everton when Calvert-Lewin got injured and we bought him as a utility forward who could cover Son, Kane and occasionaly the right . He just doesnt have a centre forwards instincts or goal poaching ability.
Even worse on the wing for Ange’s system! Just get rid and get Toney for now.

You look at Mikey Moore starting to break into the senior squad and it's a no brainer that Santiago could/would/should want to move away.

The reality is also that the youth squad(s) won't all make it here, so in some respects the academy becomes a money generating tool as much as a star generator.
Shame wasn’t he one of the Ayers who shined for the U21s? Again I know he may not have made it but was never given a chance as we got Werner last season and Solomon. The underlying feeling is we have no difficulty brining average plodders no better than our youth and give them a chance. However for our own players we just discard them! Not saying Santiago would have been the answer but he never got a chance to answer the question. Hopefully players like donley and Alfie get a chance and not over looked by some cheap punt transfer.
