He is not a number 6, excellent ball playing CB but against pressing sides as a single pivot he is not agile enough. Midfield is a different level when it comes to looking after the ball as a deep lying playmaker. He just doesn't move quick enough.

Them nipping attacking pressing midfielders like Mount and Odergaard Gallagher would have a field day

We could easily line up against Leicester with the same team that started the Sheffield United game. At this point in time I’m thinking it more likely than not.

That would be a 0/10 window not to improve the first XI at all by that game. But it’s felt similar to a 2018 window in terms of disappointment since day one.

Biss does not have the same defensive skillset and distribution and cannot slot seamlessly/comfortably into a back 3 on recovery.

That's key.

That's the advantage in certain tough games.

Also, the "world class CB" who cannot be moved argument is paper thin.

We shipped over 60 goals with him there.

Largely, because we didn't have a heavyweight security measure sitting in.

Until we get that, we should absolutely consider him as a stop-gap in certain games.

If we didn't play arse-out football, it wouldn't be as desperate a situation as it is.

I absolutely don't expect him to do it, of course.

But it would be much more balanced than kamikaze attacking and benny hill defending.
 
I actually think that 3 CBs (or two, with VDV in an Ake-esque LCB role Pep style) is a great idea, and indeed worked well vs City in the match at home last year. Romero at 6 not so much but the idea of playing all 3 CBs at once is smart.

Can't remember any discussion on here about his first touch being bad.

Or his mobility on the ball.

I think the 6 is a very, very specific position in our system and whilst Romero possesses the attributes you have mentioned I'm not entirely sure it would benefit the team as a whole.

Firstly, we wouldn't be at CB where he is pretty much most important on the pitch.

Secondly, taking the ball on the turn and having the awareness of what's around you in terms of the opp and your own team mates is a difficult skill and not one he would be adept at as it's not typically a top skill for a CB like him to be focusing on.

Could he do a job there? Sure. Would he be as elite in the position as you're intimating..... unless that's all he has been training to do I'm not sure he could step in against the top players in the league and be what we need.

He does slow things down a bit though and carefully picks a pass.

Biss is a better #6 than Romero
Gray is a better #6 than Romero
Bentancur is a better #6 than Romero
Sarr is probably a better #6 than Romero

Nobody in the FUCKING WORLD is a better CB than Romero... so maybe we should just leave him there?

I can't find where I said he'd be "elite" there, tho.

You can quote me that when you find it.

In my first post suggesting it, I clearly put the context in which I think it might be necessary.

And the best option there TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL DEFENSIVE SECURITY just in front of the CBs and also SLOT IN BETWEEN THE CBs TO FORM A THREE.

Until we find a proper DM (I like Biss, but we need a proper cunt DM in this system imo, and he's not ideal to slot into a 3), I think we're going to have to be resourceful.

Our top challengers in this league are far less forgiving than the rest.

I see your point, but he would, I'm my opinion, against the best front lines in the league, be best suited to CB and us having our best 6 play at 6 for our forward transitions.

Dm is a difficult position to play, you can’t just put anyone in there.

You need to be able to be composed on the ball under pressure from all sides. It’s very different to being on the ball as a defender with the opposition in front of you.
