We don't have CL, but we have the London, training facilities and stadium pull. If they wanted to get it done, I'd be surprised if he rejected it.

Never going to happen though as that'd show a bit of ambition, which isn't allowed here apparently.

Solanke would be the most dissapointing and worst transfers that I can remember. One decent season in 10 and anything north of £40m is insane.
Exactly... Not having Champions League football is never a barrier for the other top 6 clubs signing players, but is always used as an excuse for us.

Small time, loser mentality rearing it's ugly head once more I'm afraid.

Solanke isn't a Spurs signing.
There's no opportunity attached to it. Long contract, club not desperate for cash, player not itching for a move.
Levy would have to pay up or move on.

Or, as is more likely, waste the next 3 weeks pretending to "try really hard" and then shrug his shoulders when we're left empty handed.
Yep, waste of time

If we are going to sign anyone from the PL, needs to be a desperate club like Everton or Leicester…. DLC, Maupay or perhaps a late offer for Vardy?

It was, we just scouted very poorly and didn’t find out about his personality.

What actually is ambition though?

Is it spending money? The right player? Age? All three? Reputation? What?

What's more important?

Backing a manager with a player he thinks is the perfect for for his team (regardless of money) or signing players who may be considered ambitious but not a particularly good fit overall (Ndombele)

Seems to me like no matter what, fans won't be happy regardless.

"settling for mediocrity"

He scored NINETEEN goals in the top flight of English football last season.

How many Spurs players have achieved that in the last 30 years?

I reckon if Romanos report replaced the name Solanke with Toney, the reaction would be alot different.

Well it has to be a combination of course, but if we signed Gyokeres, Neto and Eze they would suit the system and would be very ambitious.

Ndombele fitted Poch’s system, he just retired from football when we gave him a contract.

When Salah signed for Liverpool at 24 years old; he had never scored more than 15 goals in a season; and he was playing in the Swiss and Egyptian League.

He then had 117 appearances in Italy. Only bagging 40 goals.

Came to the Prem; and got 44 goals in his first season.

Can you imagine if we signed a player with those historic stats. The forum would melt down and demand levy be fired.

Why is Gyokeres more ambitious than Solanke though (or anyone else for that matter), that's what I mean?

Bezause he's Swedish? Because he's from a foreign league? Because he'd effectively cost more?

Is Solanke, Neto and Eze ambitious?

Yeah, but the laziness and personality issues weren't a good fit.

We'd have been better off signing Bissouma the exact same summer, who'd have cost half the price.

Would that have been a lack of ambition? Even if he would have fit just as well

Goals vs xG stats for domestic league 23/24 season-

Possible #9 transfers:

Solanke - 19 goals from 19.6 xG 🔻
Alvarez - 11 goals from 13 xG 🔻
Toney - 4 goals from 6 xG 🔻
Openda - 24 goals from 22.1 xG ⬆️
Gyokeres - 29 goals from 22.5 xG ⬆️
J. David - 19 goals from 17.5 xG ⬆️
Gimenez - 23 goals from 22.8 xG ⬆️

Others (just as a barometer):

Son - 17 goals from 12 xG ⬆️
Johnson - 5 goals from 10.6 xG 🔻
Kulusevski - 8 goals from 4.7 xG ⬆️
Kane - 36 goals from 30.6 xG ⬆️

Analysis - Out of the possible CF transfers, Gyokeres finishing was stand out while all the PL options actually underperformed their xG.

That just tells me it's easier to score in other European leagues. Therfore, buy with caution.

Herc On Neto:

Things gathering pace nicely. But! Let’s not get too carried away yet, as anything could happen.

Solanke fits the system as well as Gyokeres though mate

Fine with Solanke, decent player. For me about as good as Richy but with the added bonus of being available most of the time.

Still think we need an elite wide forward more.

The other aspect is while Moore might be our biggest young talent he is clearly needing of physical development at 16 and isn’t like Rooney or Yamal in being a man at 16. On the other hand Lankshear looks ready, there is just something about him like he is ready for the big time.

Starting to believe "ambition" simply means sign players from big clubs tbh.
They want sexy names. That’s the only ambition they will recognize.

We definitely do need a wide forward. I actually think Ange wants Neto and I think he’d smash it for us.

Solanke
Neto
Ramsey
Gray
Locko

That’s an ambitious window for me all day.
