Nope I haven’t.

I’ve been saying all summer I’ve never really watched him play. Read again dickhead

I honestly don't know what goes through your head, like everyone can read your posts you know...you've been literally talking about him day in day out saying how much you want him, what are we even doing here? lmao

Anyway feel free to do your best John Thomas impression and just lie your way out of shit, fuck do I care 🤷‍♂️

He had a great season but other than 1 other season in the champo thats the only time he's hit more than 15 goals and he turns 27 next month. I've probably watched him a reasonable amount over the years and just dont see that much ability. He looked better last year but on the flip side prior to that he has looked really ordinary and has had some pretty hefty goal droughts in his career. I'd rather we invested money elsewhere in the team given the lack of decent forward options.
Strikers often come good late though.

He’s always been rated as having the talent but it’s finally come off. It could be one god season or it could be that he’s figured it out.
If he’s figured it out that’s a player that helps you push top 3 for sure

When Salah signed for Liverpool at 24 years old; he had never scored more than 15 goals in a season; and he was playing in the Swiss and Egyptian League.

He then had 117 appearances in Italy. Only bagging 40 goals.

Came to the Prem; and got 44 goals in his first season.

Can you imagine if we signed a player with those historic stats. The forum would melt down and demand levy be fired.
Wasn't he at Chelsea and Basel who battered a few EPL teams in Europe. I don't recognise this biography at all. I know because I was screaming at anyone who would listed to sign him...🙄

The Egyptian League... :balesnarl:

Goals vs xG stats for domestic league 23/24 season-

Possible #9 transfers:

Solanke - 19 goals from 19.6 xG 🔻
Alvarez - 11 goals from 13 xG 🔻
Toney - 4 goals from 6 xG 🔻
Openda - 24 goals from 22.1 xG ⬆️
Gyokeres - 29 goals from 22.5 xG ⬆️
J. David - 19 goals from 17.5 xG ⬆️
Gimenez - 23 goals from 22.8 xG ⬆️

Others (just as a barometer):

Son - 17 goals from 12 xG ⬆️
Johnson - 5 goals from 10.6 xG 🔻
Kulusevski - 8 goals from 4.7 xG ⬆️
Kane - 36 goals from 30.6 xG ⬆️

Analysis - Out of the possible CF transfers, Gyokeres finishing was stand out while all the PL options actually underperformed their xG.

Why? There has to be more of a reason than outperforming xG?

And I am a fan of Gyokeres BTW.... would be a great signing but not sure he is less of risk thank Solanke based on one stat that is not comparable as was in a different, less competitive league.

True, but he's also playing in a better team and is 2 years older.

Watkins at 25 and 26 (first two Prem seasons):
25 Prem goals in 72 games

Solanke at 25 and 26 (last two Prem seasons):
25 Prem goals in 71 games
They werent a better team until Emery went there 18 months back. He'd already scored 16 in a piss poor side. Anyway not sure why Ollie Watkins is really relevant. Gyokeres is probably more of a comparison in terms of number of decent seasons, consistancy, age and price and i'd have similar reservations about him as well.

We just bought one for 40m...

Yes.
For the future.

Or do you seriously expect that our starting XI number 6 will be a freshly 18 yo kid???

I mean you do understand that for young player, clubs basically pay more for potential and less for the level the player currently is at?

He COULD surprise us, but at this moment, for sure the more likely outcome is that he will not be our starting player in EPL.

Because of the lazy ambition term.

I reckon people would have been happy if the name in Romanos tweet said "Watkins" instead of Solanke.

Despite Solanke having a marginally better record in this league at the same age and Watkins himself being some what of a late bloomer himself.

Fine with Solanke, decent player. For me about as good as Richy but with the added bonus of being available most of the time.

Still think we need an elite wide forward more.

The other aspect is while Moore might be our biggest young talent he is clearly needing of physical development at 16 and isn’t like Rooney or Yamal in being a man at 16. On the other hand Lankshear looks ready, there is just something about him like he is ready for the big time.
Yes young Will could save us a bob or two. I really don’t see how he can be that much worse although maybe not quite ready than Rich and solanke. After all how difficult is it to tap in goals from within 3 yards😀
That is what everyone keeps saying is what we need bcos that is Ange’s system.

What actually is ambition though?

Is it spending money? The right player? Age? All three? Reputation? What?

What's more important?

Backing a manager with a player he thinks is the perfect for for his team (regardless of money) or signing players who may be considered ambitious but not a particularly good fit overall (Ndombele)

Seems to me like no matter what, fans won't be happy regardless.

"settling for mediocrity"

He scored NINETEEN goals in the top flight of English football last season.

How many Spurs players have achieved that in the last 30 years?

I reckon if Romanos report replaced the name Solanke with Toney, the reaction would be alot different.

Solanke has been painfully medicore throughout his caeer.
Even shit mostly.

This is Joshua King situation all over again.

Had 1 good season for Bournemouth and did fuck all before and after. Yet people said that we should write blank check to sign him.
So 19-goals-a-season in EPL is moot as hell.

I think Bournemouth will have a good season under their manager, why would they be open to selling Solanke? They could have an outside chance of the Conference League spot if the European places go deep in the league positions. That would be an amazing achievement for the club.

Ambition is subjective. You can only judge a player from what you've seen and Solanke has never stood out. A good season but as you mentioned yesterday Patrick Bamford had a good prem season, Marcus Rashord 2 years ago, Callum Wilson... going back further i remember Marcus Stewart and Michael Ricketts. For what its worth i dont think the reaction would be great amongst Tottenham fans if we were linked with 28 year old Watkins for £70m+ .
