I'm surprised at the reactions to the Solanke link tbh. I don't think we will pay what Bournemouth want but his attributes are absolutely spot on for what we need up top.

I'd rather we get Eze then a striker though and I don't think we will get both Eze and Solanke but in isolation I thinks he's a perfect fit.

Interesting quotes from Ange on strikers. Not sure we have heard him specifically mention a #9 before.

"So I think for us what's more important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it's going be a striker that fits that mould.

"It's still the area of the park we're really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that's a focus for us."

He's clearly talking about a striker who has the physical ability to press like a maniac and still score goals. From the data we have seen on the listed players (not my fucking opinion on who I want, dickheads), Gyokeres, Solanke, and Openda fit that mould. Maybe David is a pressing forward as well? anyone seen that data?

That second quote about being the area we are thinnest is concerning tho. If we don't sing a winger who can beat a defender 1v1, I don't care if we sign peak Ronaldo Nazario, we've had a shit window.
That definitely sounds like Solanke. I've seen a fair few Spurs fans anti the idea but would he be that bad a buy given what Ange wants?

Goals vs xG stats for domestic league 23/24 season-

Possible #9 transfers:

Solanke - 19 goals from 19.6 xG 🔻
Alvarez - 11 goals from 13 xG 🔻
Toney - 4 goals from 6 xG 🔻
Openda - 24 goals from 22.1 xG ⬆️
Gyokeres - 29 goals from 22.5 xG ⬆️
J. David - 19 goals from 17.5 xG ⬆️
Gimenez - 23 goals from 22.8 xG ⬆️

Others (just as a barometer):

Son - 17 goals from 12 xG ⬆️
Johnson - 5 goals from 10.6 xG 🔻
Kulusevski - 8 goals from 4.7 xG ⬆️
Kane - 36 goals from 30.6 xG ⬆️

Analysis - Out of the possible CF transfers, Gyokeres finishing was stand out while all the PL options actually underperformed their xG.
Gyokores got his goals in the championship and Portuguese leagues though

Apparently he is available for £25-30m but his agent wants £10m as well.

With just a year left on his contract, Jonathan David is another seemingly affordable option for a Premier League club, and a good one after his exploits in the French league over the last few seasons.

He was behind only Kylian Mbappe for goals and assists among centre forwards in France last season, with 19 and four respectively. In 2022-23 season, he was top of the combined xG and xA metric for any striker across the top-five leagues, according to Wyscout's data.

The goals don’t move though. He’s a finisher but it’s his all round game that stands out for me. If you add goals to what he’s got in his locker then you’ve got a player. Pay what’s needed and that sorts our centre forward issue out. I actually could not give a fuck about what he costs. We can afford it. Spend big just now and you don’t have to for a few windows because our players are all young, hungry and improving. Getting the right quality in just now saves us later when you might only have to buy one or two to freshen things up.

We need additions in both areas and financially it's completely viable.

Solanke, Neto/Eze, LCB/LB as the 3 signings - I'd take that.

Realistically, Lille is playing in the preliminary round of the Champion League so they will not want to sell their best striker before August 14. If they beat Fenerbache, I think they will not sell David this summer even he has only 1 year left on his contract.

Not seen enough of Gyokeres but everyone who has shares your opinion.

What you saying on Solanke?

Why? Alvarez was fucking annoying everytime I watched him last season. Missing chances, shanking passes. Had a good World Cup and would destroy la Liga or Serie A but never really looked good in the prem
I have to say that, whilst I haven't seen him play extensively, that was exactly the impression I got with Alvarez. Had his moments, but looked a square peg whenever I saw him, really underwhelming.

100% agree on Solanke.

Also agreed if we get a striker and not a player out wide capable of creating 1v1 it makes fuck all sense to me. We need both. Obviously need both.
