Yeah it's clear that Woolwich could make that claim to Oshimen and he would buy it.

Finished runner up last two seasons and spent 100m on Rice etc. They are able to sell the idea that their target is to win the Premier League next season.

We target young players and sell them a project. They know they won't win things here but we give them the platform to get a move to a Bayern or Madrid or City. They have time on their side so they don't mind if they don't get a trophy in the next 3 years, if they perform well enough they will move to a club that wins eventually (as long as they don't have Kane's brother as an agent). We'll likely see this with Romero moving on next summer.

Every now and then you strike gold with a young group like we did under Poch and we came close to winning things but that was more by luck than design.

It's clear the "project" is just to keep us in and around the top 4. The board are not desperate for silverware like other clubs. It would be nice to have but doesn't really change much for them.

Totally agree

Things can change, energy can change. Arse had Stan Kronke who couldn’t give a shit, the son Josh on the other hand is a proper fanboy and wants success hard and always messages positively. Just wants to keep pushing till it happens. I don’t know if we have to wait for Levy’s son to jump in but so much of an organisation is the energy from the top and the energy from the top is often feels like ‘’winning is hard’’. It’s very demotivating and must be for the players who are here a long time.

You can go down the Dortmund route of being the young player destination or the second rank destination and do well but that needs to be done smartly and aggressively. Eze and Neto or a few wonderkids for the front line would perhaps indicate if we are moving in that direction in a purposeful sense. Can’t keep putting off challenging for the next window or the window after that, just end up with jam tomorrow.

I would like a credible signal that is sufficient to attract top tier players.

I was indicating that with the right investment and a credible belief externally that we could compete for titles then we could attract great players despite being Europa league only.

Right now there is certainly NOT a belief that we are serious about winning things externally. Pundits don't believe it, fans don't believe it. Why would top players?
That's fair, and that is exactly the mindset that AP himself has said he's looking to change.

I'm prepared to take the rough with the smooth though, I think that's where the difference is.

Top players I couldn't give a damn about, I want the right players whether they're stars or not.

Still seeing reports that we are interested in RBs if Royal leaves.

I don’t see practice sessions obviously, but Spence has convinced me he can provide needed cover. (Not to mention Gray)

Much rather save the $ for striker and a RW.

Can’t pretend I have watched Solanke enough to know if he’s what we need, but pickings do seem slim for any sure fire option.

I’d love Eze, but really think RW is next must fix spot. Johnson is effective in some situations, but need someone for the low blocks we see so often.

If we did get Solanke, Eze, and a viable RW, really think we could challenge. (Big IF of course)
I think that journalists make shit up as they go. Ok Royal on his way out, they need a replacement (no idea Spence exists), which one gets the most clicks?

Surely that just shows growth and year on year improvement in the top flight?

19/20: 22 years old. 17 starts. 3 goals. 1 assist. Goal or assist every 411 minutes

22/23: 25 years old: 32 starts. 6 goals. 7 assists. Goal or assist every 221 minutes.

23/24: 26 years old: 37 starts. 19 goals. 3 assists. Goal or assist every 151 minutes.

Which also seems to coincide with Bournemouth also getting better. First year they got relegated. Second sesson got better as the year went on with O'Neil and then last season, much better with Iraola.

Which could also show that if you put Solanke in a better team, start him and play to his strengths, he'll score you goals.
What do you mean, if we play to Solanke's strengths he'll score goals? Your making up an excuse for him already. If he doesn't score many goals it's because we didn't play to his strengths.

He needs to be able to play to our strengths. In Ange's game style the striker has to scored lots of tap ins. If he can't be in the right place to get those tap ins he's no good to us. Our wingers drive to the line and put in low crosses, if he can't be there for those crosses he's no good to us.

A striker in our team should score plenty of goals. If we sign Solanke I'll have some money on him to be leading goal scorer. If he doesn't score lots of goals it's not because we didn't play to his strengths it's because he couldn't play to ours.
