HmmmThank you. Wasn't so hard was it? Not sure where you got this "hypothetical story" idea from though, they were questions.
I'll start with your third paragraph. If the rivals ahead of us don't make signings and, as a result, we close the points gap on them, they're going backwards no? I'm told repeatedly here that you have to make signings or you stand still, and standing still is moving backwards. So using that logic, they'll have gone backwards in relative terms because they have made no signings.
Still with me?
Erm what? First you seem to be unsure as to why I called it a hypothetical story and then in the very next paragraph talk about the signings teams have made rendering your initial point utterly hypothetical, maybe your grey matter hasn't fully got going yet, let's read on.As to your last paragraph, now we're getting the grey matter going. This is where you then look at the signings relative to what that club already has available. Calafiore. Very good signing, quality player. Does he improve them? Will he be the difference in their next title tilt? I'll answer the first question because he does improve them, from a squad perspective. Insofar as getting more points? Highly doubtful.
When you have the talent city have you can buy toddlers, nice try though.City? They've signed a 20 year old kid for their right wing. Weren't you one of those ridiculing our club for buying kids?
So we're now abandoning the teams stand still when they don't sign players argument to now teams have not made good signings? Cool, let's read on.Liverpool? Flat lining at the moment
Newcastle? Lloyd Kelly, Lewis Hall and 2 unknowns that I won't even attempt to spell.
Villa? Lots of signings, but improvements when they've also sold arguably their best player?
Hmmm, you seem to be arguing a point I never disputed so well done for that, let's keep reading. Now we get to the point of why I asked those 2 questions in the first place. There's this narrative that you will only become elite if you buy the most expensive players, but that is only true to a point, they have to be the right player. So the 2 questions I threw at you were meant to illustrate that bollox. Signings are only part of the whole, they don't dictate success, or why would we need coaches? Buying a big name is great as long as they are the right fit. You only need look at Utd's transfer activity to see the truth of that. Then you look at City's strategy and see what buying the right players gets you. They were able to do both because they cheated, but their strategy is about as sound as it gets.
Fair point, you're entitled to make judgements whenever you see fit, doesn't stop other making judgements when they want and given what we've been told about the clubs aims by the manager and the business that has been done and is rumoured to be in the process of being done, it looks like yet more guff for the masses to swallow, lets keep reading.I'll be honest here, I was expecting a bit more of an hysterical response from you, but I was pleasantly surprised at the response as it was challenging.
Look, I'm as concerned about our lack of signings to date as much as you are, I just choose to wait until the end of the window before making judgements. A lot can happen in 2 weeks, and it's not like we haven't been in this territory before.
Yeah, you lost me here, that's a pretty nonsensical statement. We compete in a league, by default everyone is our competition but when we talk of rivals it's about rivals aiming for the same goals as you which I'm pretty sure you know and are conveniently ignoring by kidding on Ipswich Town are our rivals. So, to end, I'll now answer your question. I consider every team in the PL a rival. Every one of them is out there to take points off us. If we aspire towards winning the league, then we have to consider everyone a rival that MUST be beaten, which hearkens me back to the mentality change that AP is looking to instill, it's why he couldn't wrap his head around us wanting to lose to City. He gets it now, but I can fully understand where he was coming from at the time.
