How Dry should our Powder be?

We had brilliant start last season, were top or second or there about after 10/11 games. We were mediocre for the last 27 games or so.

Where will we end up if the form of last 27 games carry on for 38 PL games this season?

The question becomes reality if we don't sign couple of decent forward players. Son, Kulu, Richy, Werner or Johnson didn't do well last season.
Where will we end up if we kept the form of the first 10/11 games?
When Maddison and our forwards were playing well.

You can keep your bridge mate, I never once said I 100% or 1% trust what the manager says, I said he himself was very loud about being a title race this season, and now he's either backing down from that talk because he feels he hasn't been backed as per his words or because he doesn't think he can live up to his talk at the end of last season when I seem to remember his advice to us was we should be winning things if we want to stop our rivals winning them.

Oh so only when it suits your argument then, good to know.

Yep cos we're at the same level as them quality wise right? Rivals being the top 3 as the manager and his devotees told us it was a title challenge in the 2nd season.

Who are these rivals is a pertinent question because I've been told we're going for the title this season so that leads me to believe our rivals are the top 3 unless you disagree with that?

:mourthumb:

It's already established that you seem to think we've always been a banter club that shouldn't have ambitions of challenging because that's what you've been told so lets leave it here before my negativity bias infects you.

It seems like we've reached the point of the debate when you're speaking shit and adding things with absolutely 0 correlation to the point so yeah for your sake you're right, let's leave it there.

Ha thanks for reinforcing my point, like I've been saying a title race this season was what we were told to expect, that it's now been downgraded is something to be questioned but obv that would be the negativity bias talking and not wanting the best for the club, as you were.

Levy isnt paying £50m up front day one for a player. It just isnt in his thinking.

I dont think he'll pay for Neto either and I am actually with him on that one because of the injury risks.

Too much risk in both deals.
Eze is a new Zaha, should simply have ended our interest when he signed a new contract. Neto is a Mendes client and he only lets us have players like Gedson Fernandes. No point in doing data-led scouting if it spits out players that your board won't pay for.

I thought you were done?

All you're doing is going round in circles, once you learn the difference between mentality and strategy then you wouldn't end up confusing yourself, all you need to do is read and put that brain to use and use a bit of critical thinking

But like I said don't blame others if you're unable to set your own expectations.

absolutely 0 correlation to the point
The point, in case you've forgotten but I doubt you have, was you telling me to set my own expectations when I was stating what the manager himself said his objective was. It wasn't that brought up analysis of strategy, intent and all the rest of it, all smoke and mirrors that you're so excellent at.

At Spurs ? I think there's a good chance that we'll win a trophy before Spurs do.

So two thirds of the season then lol.
This is what people are missing. The first ten were not indicative of the season. It was an anomaly. We were shite thereafter. Even wins were pants most of the time, and we couldn't string more than 2 of those together either.
Ange is not Conte or Jose, he will stay. Levy found the right Mr yes person for his club.
The rest are agreeable.
Levy will pull the plug if we're in the bottom half come Nov/Dec. He's done it every time.
"Limited resources" fuck me we spent like 250m under him last season.
Our net spend last year was more like £145m. This was heavily needed though, as we didn't just lose Kane, we had a derth of shite we couldn't sell for any meaningful money that had to be replaced. Lloris, Dier, Moura, then the loans - Rodon, Parrott, Spence, Tanganga, TND, Reguillon. We HAD to dig deep.
And it wasn't even deep enough.

Similar story the season before. Spence, Gil, GLC, TND, Winks, Parrott - players with no future at Spurs loaned out, so we had to spend. We didn't really have any saleable assets that window either.

The 2 seasons before that were much more Spursy with net spends more modest.

I fear that the higher than usual spends in recent seasons are to do with an ageing inadequate squad, coupled with new managers starting every new season. This season we have a lot more youth and the same coach as the start of last season.

New manager gets new toys seems to be the model.

What´s the reason paying up front is such a no no?
No idea - it’s obviously better to defer the cash payments and even better, link them to a success criteria but we have 1/4 billion in the bank, and huge revenue to leverage low financing - might make more sense to pay up front and use our strong position to get deals done and players in the door
