At Spurs ? I think there's a good chance that we'll win a trophy before Spurs do.

Sensing a new football rivalry brewing.....

Spurs - Bournemouth. .:memeokay:

I know and apologise. Ultra miserable man's Crouchy more accurate?

DLC ain't worthy of lacing the great Peter's boots. He'd probably get a 9-month injury doing so anyway.

Looks and sounds a right mug too.
Plus his predilection for wearing a dress. Hey! to be clear before anyone starts! if that's your thing I am NOT judging. I just like a bit more focus in a Centerforward.

Yes.
He was stating facts.

We had run of brilliant 10 games.
And then a run of very poor games that was almost 3x longer.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree here. We won 8 of our first 10 games before Chelsea. We then went on a 3 game losing streak before drawing with City. After then losing to West Ham, which was an absolute travesty as we battered them, we then went on to win 3 on the spin, putting 4 past Newcastle, before holing out at Brighton.

In the next 14 matches we won 10, drew 2 and lost 2. Amongst them was the 4-0 battering of Villa and our 3-0 against Fulham.

After a draw to WH and a win against Forest, we then lost 4 on the bounce against those teams around us. After that, beat Burnley, lost to City (in a game we all wanted us to lose), then beat Sheffield Utd.

So whilst we may not have played as well as we did in those first 10 games, we were still dominating games, creating chances, scoring goals and winning more than we lost or drew, up until the final third of the season.

It's the final third of our season that you could say we were poor. 6 of our 12 losses came in that period. In the middle third, you could argue that we were unfortunate to lose 2 of them against Villa and West Ham, 2 days where our frontline were pretty abysmal, because we created enough good chance to win 4 games let alone those 2. Losing 4-2 to Brighton wasn't great, but it was an outlier. Let's also not forget that in that middle third, we had roughly 50% of our entire squad missing. This doesn't excuse our final third of the season, but demonstrates that 2/3 of our season went from excellent to fairly good, with 1/3 at the end being the drop off.

So to say that 2/3 of our season was poor is patently untrue.

If he's not good enough to displace strikers of that level then what are we really doing here?
The question is if he'll be given to chance to prove that though. He didn't get that chance at Sevilla.

Also Veliz is 20. Even if he doesn't manage to displace them, we should stop writing off players so early, especially strikers. Strikers of the traditional mould (not this false 9 stuff) are developing only in their mid-20s like Toney, Solanke, Watkins, Gyokeres etc. Scarlett and Veliz may still turn out to be great. So, we should be patient with them.

Now whether he'll stick around for that development or we sell him off like Parrott, no one knows. What's clear though is that he needs game time badly and he may not get that at Southampton so it would be a stupid move again like the Sevilla loan was.

I mean he's 20 year old.

Also clubs will naturally favour their own players over loans , in particular young loans.

This is the issue.

No Prem club would seriously take a 20 year old striker on loan and develop them for another club, it's rare.

We're honestly best off sending him on loan to the Eredivisie or something. Get him lots of minutes and see how he deals with it.

I would have to respectfully disagree.

I am absolutely convinced Alvarez would have been incredible for us. He is exactly who we should have been aiming for, give him the challenge of being our main man up front, our main striker, in Anges system, and I am sure he would have scored an absolute hat full.
He scored 19 goals for City last season, despite playing most of the season as a winger/attacking midfielder.

He is a striker that IMO would have been tailor made for Anges system, a pressing machine, technically very good, and his hold up play is not to be sniffed at either despite your reservations.
He would have been a signing that showed real ambition.

But alas, once again not to be. I’m actually disappointed he’s going to Atletico, as he’ll likely be used as a kind of workhorse number 10 by Simeone in the mould of Griezmann as opposed to fulfilling his potential as a striker.
Alvarez is too small to be a no.9 type that we need IMO.
romero and VDV has the potential to be the best. its got everything. speed, aggression, technical ability.
The thing about Jan and Toby is there was very little aggression because they were both clever enough to always be in the right place at the right time. Something King was equally special at. I think back to that King Vs Robben moment and think that was actually a rare moment for him as he was usually better positioned. Toby and Jan rarely made mistakes, got booked and I don't recall any red cards at all. For me, a good defender is one that doesn't need to sprint around all the time and kick the shit out of the opposition to assert dominance.
It was good enough for King to win a trophy with woody beside him though....sadly eluded Toby and Jan.....🤷‍♂️
We finished 11th that season. In the 2nd half of the season, our longest winning run in the league was 1.
The semi final 2nd leg and the final were really, really out of place for a season in 07/08 to say the least!
