How Dry should our Powder be?

Our revenues are £200m higher than Athletico Madrid.

We sold Harry Kane for £100m last season.

How is that they can afford Gallagher, who we tracked for years, AND Julian Alvarez, while we're still scrounging up pennies and needing to throw in players to complete deals? 🤨

Hotels don't pay for themselves!

Also it makes me laugh when people defend our penny pinching as if it is their own money. Every other club is pushing the boundaries of the PSR rules, meanwhile we're trying to see how far below them we can get. I'd rather show some ambition than win another "most frugal business" trophy.

Unfortunately our lack of ambition has created an entire culture at this club where success is secondary.

I think the Olympics could be the thing that is holding up the announcements. It seems unlikely that it's Euros or Copa any more.

Looking at the starting ST's and RW's from the Olympic semi-finals:

Any likely signings there?

There could be others that started on the bench too.

This is the biggest issue. Fans on here think we're better than that, when in reality they are good players.

The people who are desperate for us to sign Eze and now rate Bowen and the same people who would have slated the club for looking at them when they were at QPR and Hull respectively.

FWIW I live in Coventry and have watched Gyokeres a lot, he's built for the PL. An absolute monster in strength, and is quick. I think he'd suit our system, but 100m euros is a lot.
Signings are more than the fee, it’s situational - all of our attackers are poor compared to peers, and lack fight…..he instantly changes that and probably adds 15 points so he’s hugely valuable to us and it’s worth 100M extra

Doue is the only one from those teams. And he's off to one of Bayern/PSG.

There is Locko, who is the left back we've been linked with who's currently at the Olympics but probably one for later in the window as not particularly important.

We were recently linked with Richardson who plays for Morroco. Who are still there as they play for a bronze medal

We will face stiff competition for Locko and Richardson from the likes of Sheff Utd and Plymouth - will be a tense end to the window

We're one of the richest clubs in the world, we shouldn't need to root around the bargain bin. We should be able to purchase an experienced player.

The primary objective of the leaches at the top is to fatten the pig and make the club as financial profitable as possible to enable the highest sale price, that’s it - the only objective that matters. As you say, success is secondary. The glossy investor brochure will talk about opportunity, PSR headroom etc and potential revenue growth - that’s the sales pitch and all that matters to weasel 1 and weasel 2

Oh so now all of a sudden we do want Gallagher when it's too late? Or is this just another post complaining for the sake of complaining?

But where have I mentioned a bargain bin? Would Eze, Bowen, Gyokeres, Olise be considered bargain bin when signed from Championship clubs?

Is Gray unambitious because he was signed from the Championship? Bergvall was £8m and from a second rate league. Is that unambitious?

I think we can all see how we are run at the moment.
All we have done past couple of weeks is offload people and making wage bill lighter.
That seems to be the biggest driver, lowest wage to turnover figure, we are under such tight control, never be in financial difficulties, but won't win the big boy prizes either.

Maybe it's becoming more difficult to attract players to the UK with all the riots going on?

But who's to blame?
