Again why did we do the loan deal so early. I’ve never known any club announce or do a loan deal so early. Normally loans are towards end of window. Was there a q of clubs wanting Werner? I doubt it but the club may have convinced themselves there may be. He was still injured as well. Something g fishy going on and to take the full hit on the wages. I bet we buy him.

We had the option to buy him which was on a time frame and we renegotiated the deal

Keep waffling about "net spend" all you want. If you think the total amount spent per window infers quality that's your world, not mine.
By all means, claim that we are panic buying but Ange has said we had a plan at the start of the window and we are still executing the same plan. I’ll trust him over a soft drink on the internet.

Ange Postecoglou, 22 May: “We want new attacking players, absolutely”. “It's no secret. We need that. It's also key to get transfers done as early as possible, it's important”.

All going according to plan. You trust him yet you sure don't listen to him.

My use of the word « quality » meant to imply serious players for the now. Obviously people will argue forever about who exactly but I was responding to a fear that we might not sign anyone.

Here’s Ange just four days ago:

« So I think for us what's more important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it's going be a striker that fits that mould.

"It's still the area of the park we're really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that's a focus for us.

"Irrespective of the approach, I like to think I've always been pretty clear on what I want. I've had success for the most part of my career with transfers and, I mean, I thought last year's window was excellent.

"When I was a Celtic or at Yokohama, I mean, there's still guys that dominate the league that I brought to the league. So I think what hopefully minimises us getting it wrong is I'm really clear on what I want. Now, it kind of helps now with Johan [Lange, sporting director] and his team that they've got some more information around that, but it still comes down to, I think the most successful models are about having a real clear idea about what you're after.

"You know, because if it's just a left winger you want, there are thousands of them all very, very good. It's about finding one that's going to fit into the way you want to do things."

"I don't think it'll all get done [in this window]. I've never believed in quick fixes and I think I said that it would have been great if we had done our business already, but I've always maintained a discipline not to go off and sort of get too emotional through these times,"

So we've already done a hell of a lot and we don't need to do as much, but I still think there's... because it's not just about having success one year. What you're trying to build is another, hopefully another cycle of success, and I think that'll take a bit longer. »

What's your favorite flavor of Jarritos? Tamarind is mine.

Spursidol Spursidol .
I know that you’re typically on top of squad management news.
How many non-HG /HG slots do we currently have filled /open?
I know we’re looking to move on players but what’s the current state?

Link to OP on this thread giving an up to date position showing that assuming we move Royal, Lo Celso and Reguilon on, we currently have a full squad which comprises :

Association Trained Players....... 6
Overseas Trained Players............15
Club Trained Players.........................2
Total No of Players in Squad 23 (excluding Royal, Lo Celso and Reguilon)

So whilst we can sign anyone (although like all clubs there are financial constraints), we would need to move on other players, and after we move on Solomon, the choices become more tricky.

We could sign two Overseas Trained players or two HG players and live within UEFA squad rules for example

Not moving players on not only loses Spurs value but makes the club unattractive for other players to join so we need be careful not to side line players without offering an exit we can afford. We correctly 'dumped' Ndombele but cannot continually do this.

Hope this helps

Obviously people will argue forever about who exactly but I was responding to a fear that we might not sign anyone.

And that's where I think things took a turn. I never stated a fear we were signing no-one. I genuinely asked if you thought we'd make, in your words, a "couple of quality signings" in 2018 for comedic effect. The joke might be lost on some but whatever.

I take Ange's recent quote as a man who has got his reality check when it comes to what to expect with how we behave in the transfer business. Some have said it's a spineless back track but I think that's a little harsh.

"I think I said that it would have been great if we had done our business already, but I've always maintained a discipline not to go off and sort of get too emotional through these times,"

Here's where I almost feel sorry for him, almost. This is a "I'm not gonna do a Conte, but c'mon man" cry for help which doesn't make these sudden Solanke talks a coincidence imo.

Considering he wasn't at the Euros and Ange set the expectation for early business, there is no way I'll believe this was according to "plan" or that Levy's plans and Ange's plans even align.

Could we name Skipp then loan him out but still use his name as a CT player, I'm sure we done this afew years back

Yes, we absolutely have to disagree here.

Without the first 10 games we averaged 1,42 ppg. We conceded 52 goals and scored 52 with that run, GD of 0. That is 54 points per season. And this is 8th-10th place finish in Premier League. Yes, there were fluctuations up and down throughout that period and it was not fully linear - but read that again - across 28 games were were on 54 point season schedule.

You can find excuses to fill 100 book page, about "unluck", "fluke game" and "abysmal frontline" and "injuries" and whanot. I don't care about excuses, it is total losers game. I mean, come on, at the same post you mention that we lost a game cause 50% squad was missing and then bring out beating Newcastle 4:0 when they had even worse injury issues?!? Come on. All teams have injury issues and different problems across season.

And there was no improvement visible from any possible angle DESPITE many of injured players returning by then already. We finished the season in way that is inexcusable. We threw games away without opposition having to turn up. I still have nightmares from seeing us dismantled by Arsescum at home 0:3 by HT. No mental gymnastics will change this, as there are no excuses for such performances and such runs of games. Throughout the 2nd half of the season I saw us playing football for max 45 minutes at the time and having absolutely shocking game management. You can call it "dominating games" or whatever excuse sounds better. But week after week I saw a side that either did not turn up for first half or if they played well for first 45 then totally eased pressure in 2nd half.

And you TOTTALLY disregarded our cup performances that were shocking alltogether.

I don't know, maybe all that is OK for you. And then I get back to beginning - that we have to disagree. To me this is awful overall, maybe with much much much lower standards it is acceptable.
That is with 1 game every 1.5 weeks almost.

If solanke was the plan then yeah why wasn’t it done as early as Werner’s loan and just announced first day of transfer window.

Gréât that you know Levy’s plans.

Any insight into Munn’s plans?
Or Lange’s?
Rob Mackenzie?
Frederik Leith?
Or the rest of the scouting team?

Sounds like you’re itk.

No.

Better plan is use Devine and Donley, both of whom I think can play some games at first team level (but Ange needs to agree to that) to play minutes Skipp would have had between them.

Neither need to be registered , so whilst we may be one more CT player light without Skipp we replace his playing time with 2 youngsters who may become CT with the right development playing time.
