Boehly selecting the next Chelsea signing....

When the club told us all that they wanted to be the first ‘Net Zero’ club in the EPL, looks like we were all mistaken when we thought they were talking carbon emissions . . . 👀

cant say I have much hope this season bearing in mind how mediocre our squad is and only Solanke and Neto linked.

I cant see us spending 120m on those two. Solanke is probably the most likely.

But it all looks so average. Who out of our attacking players is worth spending best part of 100 quid to go and see?

The drop off from Kane to Solanke is depressing.

We once had Defoe, Keane, Berbatov and Bent. What happened?
I don’t remember Bent working out too well. He was definitely a good player but for Spurs kinda disappointing. But I get what you’re saying.

It should have been though.

Bentancur, Skipp, Sarr, Gray and Bergvall are all essentially the same type of player. None of them are comfortable playing that 6 lone DM role that is crucial to Anges system.

Bissouma is okay at best at the role but I think he cannot be the long term solution.

Perhaps they believe Gray or Bergval can be trained into the role but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just get a specialist in the role rather than putting square pegs in round holes.
They are most definitely not all the same type of player- Gray is a CDM and was purchased for that role. Bergvall is an 8/10.

When you talk about “waiting for the right player” I think this is more akin to what that should mean in reality. Liverpool haven’t signed anyone yet this season but if they get this over the line it’s a signing that instantly improves their already excellent starting 11.

A quality ball playing 6/DM who, sadly, is exactly what we need in midfield. It’s such a shame we didn’t make any attempt to get him.

:roseunsure:

Where should we go from Harry fucking Kane?
Up?
Think what is meant we should be getting a top top striker or finding the next Kane from all the scouting and data. Not someone who has been under our noses for years. Ok he scored a few last year but now everyone says he fits ‘Ange’s’ system with other aspects of his game. Did he not have these qualities last year or the year before. He is gonna be 27 plenty of years to have identified any sort of potential. He is being bought purely bcos he scored 19 goals last year. The rest of it people are just now making it up to justify the purchase. Let’s say he scored 5 goals last year would anyone have mentioned we must buy him bcos he presses, can dribble, etc? No!

Those of you who thinks Solanke isn't ambitious.

Who would be, and be attainable?
premier League:
1. Håland (27+5)
2. Palmer (22+11)
3. Isak (21+2)
4. Watkins (19+13)
5. Foden (19+8)
6. Solanke (19+3)

Bundesliga:
1. Kane (36+8)
2. Guirassy (28+3)
3. Openda (24+7)
.

.
9. Sesko (14+2)

Serie A
1. Martinez (24+3)
2. Valahovic (16+4)
3. Giroud (15+8)
4. Osimhen (15+3)
5. Gudmundsen (14+4)

La Liga
1. Dovbyk (24+8)
2. Sørloth (23+6)
3. Lewandowski (19+8)
4. Bellingham (19+6)
5. Budimir (17+2)

Ligue 1
1. Mbappe (27+7)
2. David (19+4)
3. Lacazette (19+2)
4. Aubameyang (17+8)

Liga Portugal
1. Gyökeres (29+10)
2. Banza (21+4)

People will tell you with a straight face Vlahovic would be more “ambitious” Solanke…

Osimhen score 15 goals for the Napoli when Kvaratshkelia setting him up. Solanke scored 19 in the prem for Bournemouth but people will tell you with a straight face Osimhen is worth double the money

Normally a hold up player would be to keep the ball while players get forward to support. With Ange everyone is already forward. Who is he holding it up for? Maybe Vicario is on his way.
Did you watch us play last year? We got the ball forward quickly and repeatedly lost it and were countered and opened up. Not saying we need a lanky target man who only plays back to goal but with the powder puffs on each wing, the centre forward needs some presence

I'm fully onboard with signing Solanke. I just think the issue for me is the thought of both him and Johnson in a front three. They're both fine players, but they're the sort of players that mid-table Spurs were signing 15-20 years ago. It doesn't feel like our ambition has moved on a great deal.

You'd think Ange, having been here for a season already, would have a better idea of our squad than Slot, having just arrived, has of theirs.

And Liverpool look pretty strong all over the park. They probably need a new centre back too and to sort their keeper situation out but apart from that their squad is strong. Questions over them will be about the manager and his ability in England. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes either way for him at the start.

With us it just feels like an injury anywhere to our starting XI and we become weak and who is to say that won’t happen again. It’s why I thought we needed a good 5 or 6 decent players in this window but we’ll be well short of that. Another fullback or two, centre back, defensive midfielder, winger and striker. I mean, it does not even sound excessive does it?

People using Liverpool as an excuse, i mean firstly why should we care? I'm sure their fans aren't that happy either but thats sod all to do with our situation

But if we're going there they finished 16 pts above us last season with a +45 g/d to our +13. They clearly have a lot less issues than we do and won a league cup as well. They have only lost Matip who was out of contract and Alcantara who never played. We have sold Hojbjerg and got money in for Parrott and Rodon with an Emerson sale 'imminent'.

This should have been the summer to back our manager, his 2nd season. Everything is in place off the field, stadium money rolling in, wage bill must have had 25% hacked off it in the last 12 months, squad almost cleared out of dross bar 3 or 4. If not now then when?
