Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Solanke and Gyokeres profile very similar though? at least from the stats. I guess we'd have needed to be willing to spend about 15m more at least to get Gyokeres and then had the trust he could translate it to the prem. With Solanke they know he can do what he does at this level. There's zero reason to doubt Gyokeres could do it in the prem but that is still different to knowing that Solanke can.

For me I'm not judging that decision until I see what else they do for the winger position especially. If that extra 15m for Gyokeres meant we couldn't get a winger as well then I'm even more on board with the Solanke decision tbh. If we don't get a winger then I'm looking at it slightly differently.
Gyokeres has a bit more class in terms of he can drop turn and play a clever pass even though he’s a classic centre forward. He’s as close to Kane as you could get at the moment but with pace and mobility and that’s why he was my first choice.
Solanke has proved himself at this level and knows the premier so it makes sense. He’s also HG. What I really like about Solanke is he gets in that 6 yard box between the posts and is a threat in the air and on the ground. His touch in tight spaces is very good too and we find ourselves in those situations a lot.

I’m happy with the signing and couldn’t give a fuck about how much he cost. I think we’ll sign another and to be honest I hope it’s Chiesa because he can play any of the front three positions. He’s also a bit of a dog. Also like Yilmaz at Galatasaray for the same reason. Not big goalscorers but make defenders defend every time they get the ball.

I went and looked up the intro on youtube because I have nothing else going on a Saturday. Those old Cartoon Network sound effects hit like crack.

The biggest key point for the issues we had vs the more savvy teams like Newcastle and Fulham. They clocked that they could press our rotation options in the back 5 and anyone at #6 not called Yves and then that they could also just ignore any of our wingers 1v1.

Solanke deals with our inability to keep the ball up front but we need wide player who scares the shit out of defenders and forces them to get tight to stop him receiving the ball. If we have that then they can't stand off us and all the space for our low crosses opens up in the 6 yard box. Then that means both CBs get drawn to the 6 yard box to stop Solanke and then space opens up for box crashing 8's to get cutback.s

Get a winger and we have have a decent window.

Kulusecski :harrylol:

But in fairness, everything else in the video is spot on. There is no denying that Solanke is the perfect fit for what we need from a logical point of view.
Yes I agree with the Solanke bit. I honestly don’t know what people see. Madders and Sarr play as 8s but madders has more scope to float and go in behind the striker where Sarr starts as an 8 and pretty much stays on his side and get up and down. Sometimes they can drop in deeper to the six but we always start with a defensive midfielder (usually Biss) and madders and Sarr in front left and right.

Getting the striker in that can take us up the pitch will change the whole outlook in our system. When it goes into a striker and sticks it completely opens the game up. It then can be laid back and played in behind for pace merchants like Johnson and Sonny. Midfielders like madders and Sarr then know if it’s going to stick more often than not then they can just go and hit the box. I’ll bet you right now our midfielders score more this season because of this option.
I know we had our differences about Toney but he would have done the same type of thing. You are only as good as your centre forward in football. If they do their job with and without the ball you’ll win more often than not. They don’t need to be world beaters, just be good at their job and fit the system.

We play with a #6 in 90% of our games. That is our system for the most part. It's not even a debate and I'm with you, I have no idea why people think otherwise if they have watched more than 3 of our games.

Yeah i get it now. For a good while I was thinking our striker just needed to be a box threat but if they are then the wide players need to be able to give the out ball and bring others into the game. last season we only had Kulusevksi who could do that and if you can only do that down one side it makes it REALLY easy to game plan against you. If your CF gives you that then it makes it almost impossible to take him away as the out ball without leaving huge spaces down both sides. When we have pace like Son and Johnson on either side, that's a dangerous choice to make.

I’m sure there is a Dom Solanke song in the Hokey Pokey. Needs some work though

Put your right arm in, take your right arm out. Put your right arm in, and you shake it all about. Do the Dom Solanke and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!

Put your left arm in, take your left arm out. Put your left arm in, and you shake it all about. Do the Dom Solanke and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!

Put your right foot in, take your right foot out. Put your right foot in, and you shake it all about. Do the Dom Solanke and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!

Put your left foot in, take your left foot out. Put your left foot in, and you shake it all about. Do the Dom Solanke and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!

Put your whole self in, take your whole self out. Put your whole self in, and you shake it all a-bout. Do the Dom Solanke and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about!

Chorus: Do the Dom Solanke, Do the Dom Solanke, Do the Dom Solanke,
