More a "buyout" clause than a release clause.
The player has to buy out the contract to be able to ensure his release.

I think that release clauses are set out in Spanish law, and under Spanish law players do indeed need to pay the release clauses themselves to Spanish FA who forward the money on to club which player used to be registered at
However usually what happens is the club to which they are going 'loans' them the money which is probably counted as an up front bonus to the player for tax purposes.

It is. For selling to other Spanish clubs the release clause isn't normally triggered they just sell at the clause level.
If he has to pay himself out, get a loan from Liverpool to do it, think it adds a whole load of tax on top of the fee.

I always find it amusing that Ally Gold gives a (very very very) extensive rundown of our potential issues on that front, but I never seem to hear the media mention that regarding Chelsea.

Well they currently have 43 in the senior squad so yes, they'll need to leave a few out.
