Leave off, this isn't backing the manager. Replacing expensive senior players on high wages with cheap youngsters is exactly what our owners want.

Backing the manager would be to do that then supplement with some top tier players with proven credible experience so it's going in the right direction but let's not get carried away.
They might be senior players but for the most part they were shit and should have been moved on long ago so the fact they have been replaced by younger (better) players is fine.

I agree though that now we have drastically reduced the wage bill and cleared most of the deadwood we need to be adding elite experienced players. That will probably come with CL football next season though.

I’m not talking about the replacements. Although 65m on Solanke and whatever else we do from here is hardly young players .

I’m talking about the clear out. So many of these players outlived Jose, Nuno and Conte. You can’t tell me those managers didn’t want some of them replaced.

How do you know the manager doesn't want this when he's openly come out and continually said he's happy with the strategy and even said he supports the notion that the club will never spend £100m on a player?

Backing the manager is doing what the manager wants not what the fans want.

looking at making us an elite team you need 2/3 good players per position. Based on what we have and probably who will be leaving next year (Richy, Davies etc) the shape of a long term squad is very much there.

Goalkeeper back-up, left back and maybe another CM/AM needed.

That's such a ridiculous notion for a club of our size.

If you have the money and that £100m player could win you a title you should do it if you are actually in the business of trying to win things and be an elite club.

To say we will never do it like it's some principled stance makes no sense.

I believe ange wants this but let's be realistic, we know he wants titles and it's highly unlikely with such a young, albeit exciting team.

He may be happy now but like Poch he will want more when we are on the cusp of challenging

If Ange was offered Eze I've a feeling he'd bite levys hand off

That much I agree with, it's an overdue refresh of the squad for sure.

I'm just sick and tired of a narrative that the manager has been backed to a point he has the tools he needs to meet our ambitions. Happens with every manager and then they get scape goated

Not sure Gomes would be that much? If they do want £60m we should look elsewhere as he is not worth anything like that imo 40m would be fair

I’m not really bothered by the money on any transfer.

I can definitely understand the plan behind signing him. If it was me I’d still go for MGW if we are spending big but it seems Ange has wanted a ball winner all summer. If it costs 60m to get the one he wants, we should do it,

Especially as we went from 50m on Neto to 25m on Odobert.

Some great young potential there but you don't win a league with Johnson and an aging Son on the wings.

Next summer we need to add an elite wide attacker to hopefully complement Moore/Odobert who are also getting established.

I don't think it's literal mate, he was saying that he doesn't need purely expensive signings to improve the team and would rather work with two players who cost half of that.

Remains to be seen whether we do push the boat out for that player, if we need to do it it won't be when we are still rebuilding the team

I think we need to be massively resistant to any scapegoat treatment for a manager when they are working with so many young players. Fully agree there.

However, if we are into Ange long term and prepared to stick by him and these young players then we have brought the level of young player who could grow into the level of backing a club like Spurs could never pull off.

Definitely. I hope we give both the players and the manager plenty of leeway and encouragement this year

Seems very likely Skipp is going to Leicester, either permanently for a fee rumoured at £20m or on a loan with an option/obligation to buy at same figure.

Not totally surprised - Skipp picked up a nasty injury right at end of his Norwich loan and has struggled to get gametime since appearing to be less effective than he was at Norwich when he's played at Spurs. Sadly it happens to some players.

He's the only outfield player we have with much playing experience. so once he leaves under UEFA rules Spurs have only one Club Trained player (Austin 3rd GK) and with 3 Club trained players short our total UEFA squad size is reduced to 22 players - and not too many options to increase that recruiting former players who would be Club trained (including Walker-Peters, Edwards, Cirkin, Veljkovic et al) which I think likely.

In order to increase squad size I suspect Ange is more likely to give youngsters who qualify for List B (broadly 2 years at Spurs and under 21), so I now expect both Devine and Lankshear to stay with some playing time allocated to Moore and maybe a couple of others. Not the same as bringing in a more experienced player, but a pragmatic alternative.

And the hope/expectation is that a couple of those youngsters once they reach age 21 will be both experienced and good enough to be join the squad as 'Club Trained' players in say 2 years time such that Spurs can legitimately have more than 22 players in its uefa squad - perhaps even back to 25 players if 3 youngsters become club trained. So its seeing long term planning in action.
