They spent £1 billion on that squad. if it wasn’t in better shape than ours then that’s another win for Ange’s coaching over Poch’s
Yeah, this notion that our squad (that had also just lost Kane) was miles better than Chelsea’s last year is ridiculous.
Not really, Poch had no control over any of those incomings. Chelsea spending a billion is neither here nor there, they have a weird transfer policy with some other end game, a huge % of their total spend goes on a bunch of players who aren’t even in the squad/are fourth or fifth choice children.

Poch’s Chelsea ended up 3 points behind us last season & they had a cup final and a cup semi final. And beat us home and away.

If he can’t get a £1 billion squad in shape with highly rated talents like Caicedo, Enzo, Palmer, Nkunku, Sterling, Gusto etc then it’s not much evidence to say he did a better coaching job than Ange
The thing I worry about is his defensive contributions and physicality especially paired with Porro on the wing. Elite left sides could give us absolute hell down that side if we aren’t careful. He needs a lot of physical toughening up and work rate. Normal for being 19 but concerning nonetheless.Wish I could like this post 10x over
In terms of Raw talent, Odobert is comfortably the best of all of those names.
Just having a 1v1 threat that requires constant double teaming will always unsettle the opposition defence. In addition to that he plays with his head up. A lot of those you named simply didn't have that awareness of when to let go of the ball.
It's telling that Bergwijn & Lucas' best moments for the club came when played upfront.
He got it in shape. They were 3 points behind us with a final and semi lmao, and they ended the season miles better than us. They consistently got better as the season went on.
You could name as many decent players that Ange has to coach. You've grasped so hard on that list you've included a guy who spent the season injured as well.

Poch is a better coach and we actually do have a better starting XI at least than Chelsea. Worse 'squad' maybe but we have/had more top tier talents in the XI than they do. Palmer's elite and I like Caicedo and Gusto a lot but there's not much beyond that other than some raw talent.
There's a reason Chelsea were 12th pre-Poch and will probably be 8th-10th post-Poch. The squad has some bright, talented footballers in but zero spine whatsoever.

Palmer as creative player is miles beyond Maddison. So they've got a clear midfield advantage and depth too.
Jackson and Sterling aren't any worse than Richy and Johnson. It's basically just Son, Romero, Udogie, Porro, VDV that we have an advantage on. And yes, in that sense we do have a slightly better level of top end talent. But I think Chelsea have more talent than us overall, mainly because Cole Palmer was the best player in the Premier League last season.

In the long run he wouldn’t suit Ange, but it was still a lot of goals/assists/productivity to lose. I certainly don’t think we were better with Son as CF or Richarlison.
