We didn’t finish chances.
Yes, I even said in the match thread at half time that we needed to score another goal, as we’d might end up conceding and then we’d start panicking. Guess what happened…
That’s not about learning, that’s about rhythm and composure.
I remember a similar discussion was around when Potter was rumoured to be our next manager before/after Nuno (can’t remember exactly). Brighton couldn’t finish for shit despite having a high xG. And people said it’s the players not the manager. But after Potter was replaced, that problem was fixed. I don’t fully agree that it’s solely on the players.
Different patterns and the goal was from a new pattern of play.
What different pattern? We scored a goal from a cross. It’s what we’ve done last season.
We had a meltdown when they scored and our captains need to stand up to be counted for that.
I think you’re overestimating the influence a captain has on the field. If it’s collective sloppiness what is that player going to do?
Set piece defending was solid and we gave up almost zero transition chances.
Uhh no? Leicester’s biggest chances came after transitions.
Overall far from perfect but if you are saying you can’t see anything learnt from last season after that game it’s because that’s that you want to see, not because you’ve watched the game with an open mind.
I’m not sure it has something to do with me when there are lots of other fans who say the same thing as I do. Like, say I’m not "open-minded", what about the others, are they not open-minded aswell? And what about you? Are you open-minded to the fact that maybe some issues we’ve had last season persist this season aswell?

My concern was the last 3rd of last seasons results and performances would just bleed into this one. Seen it with Hoddle, Ramos and Poch. We either needed to adjust tactics or change 3 or 4 of the first team and we've done neither. I think after 2 pre seasons you expect to see an improvement. Of course there will be blips along the way but we've not been great since January. No one is saying sack him after 1 game, but i'd expect to see a pretty big improvement in the next 10 or so. Managers are judged on results you cant get through solely on force of personality.
I would say he has got a pretty big job to do in the next 10 games, people are underestimating how difficult our start is based on the way we are playing.

Also, if we get pumped by the gooners (which is likely at this point) things will turn really sour.

Yesterday wasn't a systems issue although i don't like some of the things our centre backs did and that could possibly be because of the system.

During the first phase of the Leicester goal Romero had no business rushing to the Leicester player on the left hand side where Porro looked like he had the situation under control. All it did was cause Romero to be out of position for the 2nd phase which evidently resulted in the goal. Now this can be down to Romero himself but Ange needs to be making him aware that it wasn't necessary.

The problem is, there is no positional discipline, this is why I said it's gung-ho football which leaves us wide open (hence conceding 61 goals last season) and that DOES point to a system issue, the system encourages players to take stupid risks which sometimes pays off but mostly just costs us.

Yes agreed. No way would we be seeing players like Ruben, Saliba, VVD be rushing out like that in the manner Romero did when your team is 1 up and there's absolutely no reason to abandon your position. I could somewhat understand it if it was 0-0 and there was an urgency to regain possession but we're fucking winning.

I feel we are complacent and somewhat arrogant when we are leading and in control of a game. Trying to walk the ball into the net, Vicario getting bored and coming out about 30 yards heading the ball randomly, Romero deciding "ah this is boring i'll just wonder off out of position".

The responsibility was on people above ange to sort out the issue in the summer and they’ve given him just 1 first team player to do that, when it was clear we needed a lot more .
It's been absolutely shocking.

We need to consider two things when weighing up our transfer window so far.

Firstly, our form after the first 10 games last season, in light of no European or Domestic cup distraction, proved our squad is woefully short of where it needs to be.

Secondly, our financial wealth alongside our position as the the club in the most advantageous position regarding ffp restrictions meant that we were in an incredibly strong position to address our deficiencies and go full on to finally sign the quality of player our ticket prices justify.

With that in mind, how can any serious fan keep a straight face and claim this has been a successful, ambitious transfer window.

Yeah because I’m saying this based off one game. We have been awful for the last ten months. If you can’t see that then you are part of the problem too.
How am I part of the problem?? It’s hardly up to me who we have as manager. Ur calling for a change of manager right at the start of a season? Il play ur game, who do we appoint one game in?

Despite what Ange is saying, we don't not have title ambitions. The target is 4th. Don't kid yourself or allow yourself to be fooled.
I'm not even sure that's our target any more mate. Finishing 4th just raises expectations among the fans again and heaps the pressure on the board to deliver top signings.
In and around the minor European places seems to be our destination these days. None of our signings scream Champions League ambition....Not one.

I don't think we will ever get anywhere when we have our wide forwards (Sonny and Johnson) being so tame like they were last night - whats the point of inverting your full backs when they are better than the Wingers?

the amount of money the stadium is earning us these day, just staying the Premier League is good enough to be a successful business!
No doubt Ange will take the fall for the shortcomings but is he really being given all the tools he needs to succeed? It took us a season to replace Kane and now it looks like Sonny is done ( Obviously thats a bit of a knee jerk reaction) however after last season we should have had someone ready to challenge him but we ended up with Timo Werner cause he was cheap!

Agreed, there is giving players freedom and then there is suicidal lack of discipline.

He has to find a middle ground or he will find himself out of a job imo

I’m calling for his head based off the last ten months of football. Not the first game of the season. He’s one dimensional and has no clue how to organise us defensively. We have a brilliant back 4 but we still let stupid goals in and get carved open at ease. Give it to someone like carrick.

I can't help but agree with this as well. Although I will say, Ange signed off on Werner which is shocking to me.

The only reason I could justify him doing that is if he was told "it's this or nothing"

How’s Carrick doing again? One minute it’s Inzaghi now we go to Carrick. Ul be chanting for Ole next.

Carrick finished 8th and had one of the worse defences of the top 10 in the championship :pochshock:
