Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Seeing some of the comments regarding Solanke makes me realise how so many of you don't watch the games.

He won't get kane numbers.

But I can't remember the last time I've seen a centre forward we bought link play like he does, run the channels like he does.

Compete and win the ball like he does.

Take on a beat men like he does.

He's taking touches and linking play in the opposition 18 yard box not the half way line.

Bookmark this ladies and gentlemen because I think he'll be one of the best signings we make in this decade.

Too right mate honestly some of the comments in here are shocking. I’m sure we were all disappointed with the missed chances.

But if you can’t see the gigantic gap between playing him at CF and what we had last season you’re blind. His off ball work is so much better, he presses intelligently and actually holds up the ball. You can actually pass the ball to his feet and he’ll hold it up, lay it off, do something intelligent with it. We have so many more potential dimensions with him in the team. He also runs in behind constantly and our players weren’t spotting him.

When we’re camped on the edge of the box he’s begging to have the ball played to his feet with runners off of him. I’m certain there’s goals in that sort of move, I couldn’t be more sure of anything in my life.

Honestly I think developing chemistry with him will unlock our attack and make or break the season. Ange needs to emphasize it in training. The problem was, watching Richy and Sonny kick their first touch around the park and unable to offer any hold up play, Ange got spooked and basically detached the striker from any responsibility in build up play. He needs to build up the trust in the striker as an integral part of central moves.

Couldn't agree more mate

Agreed, but he still needs to score atleast 12-16 goals for us.

I’m with you on this. I think he’ll be a great signing. I’ll bet anyone right now he scores on Saturday and the fucking idiots on here change their tune and say he’s brilliant. This is a guy who’s played 100 minutes for us and people are questioning him but the same people watch and defend someone like Johnson. Fuck my life!!

Thanks for this post - because of it i don't have to add anything from myself. Such a relief seeing someone who can hold ball with defender on his back.

I thought his all round game was quite good. Could of done better with the chances he had but also got fuck all to really have a go at with Johnson and Son doing their usual. Get some wide men on that can produce for him and he'll be good.

corr this is a statement hahaha. yea his all round play the other night was solid. like any striker tho hes going to need service before we actually see him at his best.

i thought it was an impressive debut to be honest, he might not be as aggressive as richy in the 18 yard box but his all round play was far cleaner.

a top 2 with a stacked midfield with solanke and richy up top could be decent. pack the midfield with actual ball players. could be a decent watch that.

4132 with the 3 being fluid would be decent.

I think he's going to be an Alright signing. Like, better than Richarlison (who was a 4/10) signing but one of the the best signings of the decade? Erm, doubtful. He was sixty five million pounds, unless he's absolutely stunningly good for us he won't be one of our best of the decade.

10-15 goals but will run channels, hold it up, press and do a good CF job, without the injury issues of Richarlison and whilst being HG. Good signing, but not remotely a bargain, and he's not a kid so we can't expect a huge amount of growth either. It's fine.

Football fans are incredibly overreactive to every action. Players go from being the second coming of R9 to a donkey in the matter of a moment.
Look at poor Olly Skipp: Tottenham’s next captain to ‘get rid of the chump’ in his own thread.
To write a player off who has been at the club a matter of days based on 100 minutes and a couple of efforts saved by the GK is mindless —if one went in then he’s R9 — but par for the course for we modern fans. Sadly, Spurs fans are no better (or worse) than any other in this behavior.

Not panicked but I think we need to be realistic about what he is.

Yes he got 19 goals at Bmouth but that doesn't mean he gets 25 a season for us.

He does give us box presence though and had a few nice touches. We will have to watch him miss plenty of chances though. It's tough after being spoiled by Kane's finishing for so many years.

He does look more useful than Richy so there is that.
Based on what? The chances he missed in the game were easier than the one people were slaughtering Richarlison for missing.

Haha it sure is mate, but I'm backing our boy.
He has the tools and now it's up to him I guess.

Could definitely be an option Ange showed the other night he was happy to have them both on late in game

People who have the baseline for forward output set at Harry Kane are going to be disappointed no matter what.

Kane is one of those once in a generation players that are near impossible to replace. I have full faith that Dom is going to come good.

His xG in total for the game was 0.39. The chances weren't as good as people make out.
Don't have a problem with that, and I hope he is a massive success for us. I just reacted to the "he is a much better player than Richarlison" line of argument.

One thing you can measure is Premier League goals, and Richarlison scores 1 every 4 games while Solanke scores 1 every 5 games across their careers (and if you take out last season then Solanke has a pretty terrible record). There can be explanations for that I am sure, but I don't see how the argument Solanke is "much better" stands up as of today.

Have you tried watching them play football?
