Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There are little groups within the forum who are constantly arguing, and it spills into other areas of the site.
Wait until you see this thread!

Completely agree and I've noticed quite a few making the same point.

I've learnt loads from it (when The Guardian said the other day that most people would never have heard of Tim Walz, I allowed myself a smug, self-congratulatory smile). The posts from MemphisWill MemphisWill , VirginiaSpur VirginiaSpur , AlabamaSpur AlabamaSpur , SoCalSpurs SoCalSpurs and the others either Stateside or with plenty of knowledge of the situation there had become my go-to source for US news.

Discussions were always civil, disagreements well-argued, cunt-offs at an absolute minimum

Any chance it could be reinstated Admin Admin ? I doubt you get a 1000th of the grief from it over a whole year than you have had in recent days.

Even on a trial basis...
The irony is that actual US politics has become insanely bitter, hateful, ignorant and insulting....yet the US politics thread was probably the least of those on the forum.

I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that gods got a sick sense of humour
And when I die I expect to find him laughing.
Isn’t that a romantic notion of how the gods of antiquity used to toy with man?

I watched a YouTube video on the Japanese (it’s called “voices of the past”) experience of early Christians (think the Japanese side of events of the film Silence), and because their civilisation had very different views on nature to European Christianity, they condemned it as more like the devil or a, I believe the phrase was, “a very poor Buddha”. Maybe it is all just a game to higher powers.

Like someone posed earlier, its not just the Spurs related subject that keeps me engaged & a regular viewer. In addition to being entertained I have learnt about / been informed of so many things across many threads.

I’ve always really enjoyed the US politics thread. Always interesting and at times particularly funny due to the antics of the bat shit crazy politicians. Lets hope that can come back online in time.

To me this forum serves a similar role to Twitter in that you can read about everything but it’s more curated. You get to know what regular posters are like & so you can filter out some of the junk or shrug and say to yourself, ‘well xyz would think that’ and so take it with a pinch of salt.

Re-Twitter I actually deactivated my Twitter account last week as the stream of toxic shite and the amount of time I was wasting on it was too much. I think the amount of shit stirring on it has led to the recent behaviours here.

We're definitely at a high-water mark in society right now for shit stirring and nonsense.

I'm certainly very sympathetic to Admin in his frustrations. He and the original podcast crew when they were still active on the site always were perfectly clear that if the day ever came when they had to actively moderate the forum, that would be the same day they pulled the plug on the site and shut it down.

On the whole, I still love the site and think it's great. However I do think the No Politics rule is probably untenable in the long-term. People have more going on in their lives than just Spurs - hopefully they do, sometimes I have my doubts - and want to share and talk about their lives, thoughts, hobbies, and amusements with like-minded friends. What's going on in the world is a big part of that, and there's almost no way to divorce any sense of politics from that equation.

Personally, I don't think politics is actually the problem, as much as it is a symptom of the problem that for as long as this site has existed, there has always been a small subset of the forum that has seemed intent on ruining a good thing for pretty much everyone else, and which have consistently and endlessly demonstrated a complete lack of respect for this community. Politics is a lightning-rod for controversy, and a handful of people that simply cannot regulate their emotions or demonstrate any consistent measure of respect for others have once again gotten a great and valued feature of the website taken away for the rest of us. Heck, not many people active now will even know or remember that we used to have a "dislike" button, before one person in particular made it such a fucking broken and terrible feature of the website that the privilege was removed for everyone.

I don't think it will stop here and now. The Spurs threads aren't toxic right now because it's the fucking offseason, not because people are somehow better behaved in there. Fuck me, I started posting less and less in the Spurs threads over the past couple of years specifically because the threads about Spurs were so toxic and miserable. Now it's the middle of summer, and the Off-Topic threads become a hell-hole because there's not much to talk about regarding Spurs... big surprise there. Politics is of the moment right now due to major world events and an enormously important election coming up, but what's going to happen six months from now when the election is in the rear-view mirror and possibly two major global conflicts are deescalating? Those people are going to funnel back into the Spurs threads and be up to the same old shit that they always have.

If we're not going to address the root-cause, which is people's unacceptable and disrespectful behavior, then my fear is that this is the beginning of the end of the site, and that Admin's growing frustrations will result in the website going dark permanently.

Oh good.... Religion..........

That should keep the natives amicable.

That's a great post 👍🏻

Interesting you should say that re Twitter. The lady I line manage asked me last week if there was any training re Twitter. I thought she meant in terms of growing engagement and being creative but she actually meant in coping with the vast amount of negativity and hatred that keeps popping up on it.

I found that very concerning to be honest. Might be overreacting but I flagged it to the higher-ups as a potential staff wellbeing/safeguarding issue. Bit much? I’m not sure but thought taking the cautious approach was best.

I know there’s talks going on at top level about whether our organisation should be using that platform anymore, given the way it’s gone. Twitter now is not the same as it was 5 years ago.

Sorry this happened. I've been an admin on a site and the political talk caused 95% of the admin headaches, and even those came from about 2% of the participants (and the people who lost their minds at those people's presence)

I found the UK politics threads interesting to read as an American, though I kept my opinions to myself there. The press doesn't cover it here and I like hearing what the regular Joes are saying.

Even the American politics thread had value, there was some intelligent discussion there. I was treated like garbage by most of the other Americans :roflmao:, but it's their right to think whatever they want (of me or anything else), and this is typically my lot as I don't fit cleanly into binary paradigms and this short-circuits people's programming. But still, mutual understanding has to be achieved through communication, even if it's starting through anger and hate.

How many problems would be prevented if people would just block and ignore rather than wrecking threads and the admins' sanity! They've a very difficult job and can never please everyone, or anyone. We should appreciate them.

i never block ppl ,cuz i might learn sumthing from ppl ( even when i feel they dont understand me or are just crazy)
for example : i posted about rashford n saka that they are cunts and they deserve the hate/abuse they get. and i meant as footballers, not human beings .but i forgat that sum ppl went too far (were being rascist etc)
cuz for me football is still a game and i see ppl like saka or rashford like hating dolores umbridge in harry potter( when i was a younger)
i though it was a given to hate or abuse( abuse meant like "saka u Woolwich cunt")but learn that ppl really sent like death treats to the actress Imelda Staunton (who played dolores umbridge)

in shortsome ppl on the net or in the world r crazy in a bad way.

Nazi as the original concept may not be how it was in the 1930s, but extremism, racism, fascism and that radical ideology still exists, albeit contained to a smaller demographic.
i always though that they were just trolls on the net pretending to be nazis.
like remeber the "fuck her right in the pussy"guy
some ppl thought that was real and he did in the real news but it was just ppl trolling and everybody was an actor

but anyway i think i just stick to football stuff on here in the future
