Always amused me when clubs pay for the wages of a player they're sending to someone else.

If I was so sh!t at my job that my employer paid someone else to take me for a year, I'd have to sit myself down and ask some very serious questions

It's like you're so sh!t, we don't even want you hanging around the place.

Well it's either that or sitting on your arse not playing for a year lol

I can't even blame Sancho, Utd were stupid enough to give him £300k a week in the first place.

We've done nothing to bridge the gap between us and the 4 sides that finished above us last season

That is so fucking wrong mate.

Ange has strengthened the squad depth, introduced three exciting youngsters in Gray and Bergvall, and Odobert will be a big addition to the starting eleven something that we saw a glimpse of on his debut.

I don't know what you expect in two transfer windows and one difficult January transfer window, but your expectations are way beyond any sensible Spurs fan.

We have also got rid of the last remnants from the Poch era, and several deadwood players who offered nothing whilst they were here.

All in one full season and two transfer windows.

Perhaps you see us as a Chelsea like set up with fifty odd players seamlessly slotting into a management and coaching team that their current owner changes more often than his underwear?

Saying we have done "nothing" is bollocks.

Sorry but we don't do context and critical thinking in here, reported to Admin for trolling.

My critical thinking tells me that we don’t want to sign a player to a four or five year contract to bridge the gap between Son and Mikey Moore and that Werner is a pretty good place-holder.

What does your critical thinking tell you?
Mine tells me that Moore plays off the left as does Odobert mainly so someone to go into the team on the right where we're weakest might have been useful.

Or maybe you can look at it from both sides and think the club can do some good things and make some shockers as well like last summer, some really great signings but Solomon was a waste of time and not getting that 2nd centre half possibly cost us top 4.

Or this summer, well done on Gray and Odobert, Solanke is better than Richarlison but we havent done enough to really push on and Werner, just why? Fans are allowed some critical thinking.
They did eventually buy Dragusin in January tbf.

With the benefit of Hindsight, I'm sure they don't take Werner on again. The assumption was that he is a definite upgrade(which he still is) over Solomon & Gil as a back-up winger, and the initial plan was to sign someone who needed less polishing than Odobert to be our definite no 1 winger. Had they known a Coman, Chiesa or a Sterling would become available, they'd have brought in instead of Timo (Also a lesson here about sometimes staying patient, because opportunities can arise in the market).

However, I think the club at the same time have lost faith in Richarlison's ability to stay fit, so they bought Solanke (good), but Richy's refusal to go muddied the waters a bit. If Richarlison had gone, that makes the picture clearer, as you'd have Solanke, Son & Lankshear (he's improved bucketloads in the last year) as the CF's and we'd have space to bring in another winger.

Anyway we are fortunate that Odobert's potential is very, very, high, and we have Mikey Moore and Yang on the horizon...

Me too. In fairness, as soon as the Werner loan was confirmed, it was a very accurate barometer of what was to come. Quite a few called it then.

It’s just going to be another season full of words like “transitional” and “project”, which I’m sick and tired of. We can’t keep having those seasons every year, time and again, but it’s the loop we are stuck in. At some point, you’ve got to actually have a finished team. But we never seem to get there. Personally, I think it’s just an excuse.

I often wonder what type of players a Europa League team are expected to attract?

It's like we are a magnet for Europe's top players, who would ignore Scouse, City, Woolwich, and Chelsea, all their history and trophies and think to themselves, fuck that let me play Thursday and Sunday football and really take that team into the top four, and forgo guaranteed silverware elsewhere.

Like Ange has said many times now, he will only recruit players who want to play for the badge on the shirt not the money.

So fucking easy to understand for most in here but the most self entitled among us.

We've bought one single player that you can make a case walks into our strongest 11 from last season and improves us

Solanke

I'm sceptical that he's really much of an upgrade on Richarlison but we'll see

Everything else is building for a future that never comes

We're living in a world now where a Bergvall or an Oderbert can have a promising 45 min cameo and suddenly gets declared as generational and a game changer

It's a 5 year olds mentality and one I won't be subscribing to , no matter how much the real fan brigade on here continue to cajole and abuse anyone that isn't getting giddy on unfounded hype

These guys might all turn out to be incredible , I really hope they do

But history suggests this is unlikely

We finished 20-3O points behind the top three last year

Put aside all the bullshit and bluster , Do you really see us significantly bridging that gap with our squad as it stands today ? Factoring in European football too

Ha, yeah we're so self-entitled!

Highest prices in the land but cut corners where it really matters, but the fans are the problem.

You didn't really read what you posted, did you.

He wasn't complaining that we offloaded Skipp and Hojbjerg. His concern is we didn't replace them with better players who immediately improve the team. We replaced with kids who may or may not become better players in the future.

As he rightly said. No other top club would do this. It epitomises why, as a football club, we're not serious about winning.
So you are saying he isn’t complaining that we sold Skipp and Hjoj? And he isn’t complaining that we bought Berg and Gray? Because I can read that 20 times and I read that is EXACTLY what he is doing.

Anyway you are on ignore for answering for him as you are a far worse complainer anyway

Neto would be absolute great succession planning for Son at 24 years old.

The geezer is 32 you can't just bury your head in the sand. I think Son's decline will be very swift and brutal once it comes and we should be preparing for that.
Well we have 3 talented youngers being readied for when said decline happens. One already looking capable in his debut, other still in Korea and one potentially world class but youngest of the 3. So maybe we're already preparing for succession to Sons successor.
I like Neto but if we got him and then inevitably he gets injured and is out for months the mood would be grave . And Son just pressed the shit out the Englands keeper at full speed and put it in the net before adding another just the last weekend so let's not bury him yet.

Werner is pretty easy to explain.

It was pretty clear we needed several forwards (and equally needed to move on Gil and Solomon as a minimum) - but with Euros/Copa plus ffp issues it was clear the market would be fairly illiquid (ie not as many players moving as might be expected - so less choice of players to come in and more difficulty to move players on). It was also uncertain whether Richarlison would move, and in which case we'd need 4 forwards in if we didn't sign Werner up for another loan.

Spurs could reasonably expect to get 2 forwards in - both in terms of player availability and probably our budget - but a 3rd player coming in not so likely and/or not that much better than Werner on loan for another season : and we still were unsure if we were going to need to replace Richarlison as well..

And that's reasonably how things have played out (signed Solanke and Odobert moving on Gil and Solomon). If we had not signed Werner, then now we could have been trying to chase Chiesa in opposition to Liverpool (who it was clear also needed forwards) or Sancho (who has flopped at ManU and over priced) at this point. So Spurs decided that Werner for another year was not a bad option, particularly with Moore coming through, so Werner wouldn't block his path, and by signing him early it was a low risk option.

Werner is at Spurs to be a squad option, he's 'average' with some pluses and other minuses. If Moore is thought by Ange to be able to play a lot of minutes, that's good and Werner doesn't play as much. But the initial plan was/will be Son to play as our main left wing option with Moore and Werner available too.

And Werner will move on next summer - we avoid having signed up more injury prone players on 4 year contracts..

No. I'm saying we've not improved enough and we could have. We still have Brennan Johnson starting football matches for us.
no mate, we are hoping odobert is the absolute bollox and can get the striker some actual proper service. you know like actually attacking his fullback and get the ball into the box near our striker. keeping the ball, be able to play off the cuff...kind of like being an actual wide forward.

lets just fucking hope cheisa is a fucking crock at liverpool. because thats a winger we should have been all fucking over. someone with some actual football ability and nous.

Yeah, that will tell em!

How dare they complain?

i wanna go home tom hiddleston GIF

Incredibly underwhelming and disappointing if that proves to be the case. Only a matter of time before the wheels fall off and another season peters out early.
We haven’t signed a single player of a calibre higher than we were signing before we moved into the new stadium and that was 5 years ago now!

So you'd take Davies, and Sanchez over Mickey and Udogie?

Most of those players signed before we moved to the new stadium have gone.

How many to better teams?
