Is it somehow possible to agree with most of this and yet somehow still feel positive about the season and the direction of the football team?

Because that's me right now.

I don't think the club invests to the same level that it charges fans and I don't think the club is investing in the way you'd expect from a club that's desperate to win big trophies.

But in the same breath, I can see that the players we have brought in and moved on, ALL fit within a plan and it's a plan consciously constructed within the parameters set by the economic model of the club.

Ange said he needs a specific type of psycho that wants to prove they can come to a club like Spurs with the unique situation it has and show they are the ones who can win here. He has the same mentality. I am buzzing to watch us play every week and the talent in this squad is properly, properly exciting. For now and even more so the future.

Gray wasn’t in TOTS. I watched him 15-20 times last season, he didn’t stand out really in any games but gave a 6-7/10 every game whilst being played at RB or CM when needed. For a young lad of 17/18 he did very well. I don’t think he’s quite good enough for us yet to get lots of minutes in a PL squad, should be at Leeds for another season.
He made some kind of team of the season. I remember seeing the GFX and maybe getting my wires crossed. he was 100% Young player of the Season.

I watched him and had a very different take to you mate and nothing I've seen since has done anything to change my mind about that. He's 100% ready for the prem and sooner or later Bissouma will have a problem on his hands keeping the starting role at #6.

Define “great”, because as it stands Gray & Bergvall aren’t going to be be starting week in week out, all they have to be for now is an improvement on Hojbjerg and Skipp and that’s not hard at all.

Odobert is 19 but he’s got a year of prem experience under him and has less adapting to do.

Neto is a crock (his inevitable injury is going to hit like Escobar’s finest), Eze is wholly unsuited the the role we needed filling.

Our first XI was very good last year, it was the bench/squad that got us into trouble. We’ve had a clearout of the deadwood (2 to go) and they’ll probably address the LCB issue in January.
Where was this "very good" first XI when we were getting pumped by Newcastle, Woolwich, Chelsea, Liverpool and City in 5 out of the last 7 games of last season?

Gray is nowhere close to usurping Biss

Yeah of course it is.

We do have some good talent and we support our team throughout the seasons.

The owner noise usually happens around the off season an when things are bad.

But I do like our squad even if I think we needed 2 more(seasoned pros) to try and close the gap to top 3.

Feel our squad is better but only Solanke improves our starting 11 immediately.

Odobert improved the starting 11 for about 45mins vs Everton as well but other than that I'm pretty much fully agreeing with you.

Personally speaking, I’m not as high on Bentancur as others, Werner started vs Newcastle, Emerson started at LB vs Liverpool (Lamb to the slaughter vs Salah), and Kulusevski’s is not an Ange winger. You’ve just proved my point, in that last season all it took was 1-2 changes and it all went to crap.
As we never had any depth Ange could rely on, it became increasingly easy for the opposition to adjust to us.
Last year was mainly about finding out who can’t hack it and then getting shot of them. This year is where the real work starts with a foundation in place.

Tell me good sir, what would you have done to make us title challengers this season?
Everything that could have been done as I would care more about getting the team into a position to win things which would require spending money that we clearly have rather than celebrate getting the wage bill even lower or expecting fans to get hyped up about selling players and relying on talented teenagers to do more than they should be relied upon to do but alas, there's nothing you or I can do apart from watch on.

The only difference is some of us have the eyes to see what's happening whilst others are busily pulling the wool over their own pair.

That’s not a good enough answer.

Who would you have signed?

You’re Johan Lange. Tell me.

I remember us talking about him in the transfer thread, roughly when euros was on? I said he’d go for Grealish money and you said he’d go for the kind of money which we’ve bought him for.

Personally think he isn’t ready to be starting in a top PL midfield at the moment, he doesn’t really excel in anything and is decent at everything. He’s very young , not knocking him but I personally think he should be in the championship for another season starting every game. What does he do better than Bissouma?

Bang on.

Everyone talking as if a CF and a RW changes everything. Well, we signed one of the two best CFs available this window so why isn’t everyone happy?

Because, truthfully, a number of our other first XI, while maybe better than average EPL players, still aren’t actually good enough to compete for the title and we know it.

Sorry for any bubbles that may have burst. I’ve set my expectations accordingly and am still looking forward to decent cup run(s) and, hopefully, a final.
