But surely EVERYONE to an extent drops more points against the top half teams than the bottom half teams...

THAT'S what helps them be the top half teams, and the bottom teams be at the bottom?!

This conversation is like when scientists asked why cereal gets soggy when you put milk on it.

Why are the teams at the bottom of the league there??
And how do teams win the league??

Does anybody really fucking wonder this??????

Bar Liverpool, our defence is as good as the top teams right now in terms of goals conceded.

We're also one of the most high scoring (the highest?) teams in the league.

We're not even a third into the season. It's just so early to be making any sort of judgement, barring exceptional catastrophe or exceptional excellence, both of which we have not met right now (and none of the top teams have).

This conversation is like one of those conversations when one of the 2 people conversing has NFI what he other person meant and then spends hours arguing with them anyway.

It's good to see how convincing our wins are.

4-0
3-1
3-0
4-1

All of our wins have seen us beat the opponent by 2+ goals at the very least. Three of them have been by 3 goals.

Last seasons we managed to only win by 3+ goals four times across the whole league season. Two of the teams got relegated, the other two being Newcastle and Villa.

There are four teams in the entire league who have still yet to win a single game and we haven't played any of them yet.

Depending on how Palace do tonight, two of our next three games are against two of those teams. With the other being against a team we smashed 4-0 away last time we met.

I don't think we have a worse defensive unit today. I just don't think the team defends well. To me, it looks like something we don't work on in training based on the amount of sheer panic we see when teams attack us. Either that or we train something that isn't working (like not defending the far post) and that causes the players to fall apart.
The ethos of each coach isn't miles apart. Poch played a high line that could be exposed to counters, but it rarely ever happened.
Dembele?
I wouldn't swap one of our current defenders today for what we had in 2017.

Porro - Romero - VDV - Udogie

Vs

Walker - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose.

It's no contest to me. I feel they're better individually and as a unit. The centre backs played together for club and country, it's hard to beat a partnership like that. Walker/Porro are comparable, but walkers athleticism to bail himself out is far better than porro. Rose is better than udogie defensively, but I have high hopes for udogie, despite his recent poor form costing us goals. There's no defender from 2017 who can do what vdv can do though. That would be some back 3.

Though if you put dembele in today's side instead of bissouma, I think we'd be a lot better.

I think you're right that we definitely don't work on it as much, vdv is perfect for the system because I feel we're expecting to get caught out and he's there to bail us out. There is a lot of potential in our unit though and I think with the right coaching it can be pretty formidable.

Logic last season was playing those relegation type teams was “hard”.
“No easy games” they shout!

I’m guessing it’s the same this year although those teams are clearly fucking shite.

We're just simply better offensively. We move the ball better, The movements better. Solanke a huge part of it.

It's quite clear. Stats back it up, eye test backs it up. Results back it up.

We're creating chances at almost ease and truth be told, we're starting to get alot more clinical with it. Whereas at times last season we were quite slow, a bit more predictable and pretty wasteful, especially when Son was up top and unable to do actual striker things.

you must think youve got to big win over me. I couldnt care less about Ange. He’s a supply teacher. Would I do care about is my club and that we are prolonging the inevitable.

We win and then we go lose 2 in a row. We all know whats going to happen. The football is still all over the place.

But if it keeps your ange dream alive for another week, good for you. Its just a shame that it’s going to hurt my club in the long run.
Your Club? This magnificent Club doesn't deserve cunts like you following it

Beat 9 man Liverpool, just. Lost the other (3/6)
1 draw from 3 with City (inc FAC) 2 losses (1/9)
1 point from 9 vs goons 2 losses (1/9)
W1 L1 Vs Villa (3/6)
3 points from 9 vs Brighton lost 2 (3/9)
0 from 6 vs Chelsea (0/6)
3 points from 9 from Newcastle (3/9)
2 wins from 2 vs Fulham I think. Excellent. (6/6)

That's the top half as at today. Numbers are points won vs points available. (using points for cup game vs City)

Bottom half
2 wins from 2 vs Bournemouth (6/6)
2 wins 1 draw from 3 with United (7/9)
2 wins from 2 vs Forest (6/6)
2 wins, 1 draw vs Brentford (7/9)
1 draw vs Leicester (1/3)
1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss vs Spam (4/9)
2 wins, 1 draw vs Everton (7/9)
Ipswich TBC (NA)
Southampton TBC (NA)
Wolves 0 for 2. (0/6)

Wolves aside. if you can't see that we get way more points from the bottom half than the top half then you're not one for seeing the facts in front of your face.

Look at cup games as well. Lost to fulham on penalties. Lost to City. Beat Coventry, Carrierbag and the other lot.
Pretty consistent against anyone who would struggle to get in the top half of the premier. Inconsistent at best against top half PL teams.
Your village is missing it's idiot, try and find your way back

Most teams pick up their points most consistently from the lower half of the league- that's how the league table sorts itself out, you know? Only the top 1 or 2 teams in the league pick up points against all opponents- and that's why those teams are in a 'title race'.

Ange for sure has done poorly when it comes to big games. He says learning the system is more important that immediate results. We can't evaluate that statement until it comes true or not in the future, but, it hasn't been decided one way or the other yet. The latest win vs West Ham does look promising though.

Do you think he will need a strong No 6 as well to give the team a better platform.
Watched the West Ham game with a mate who is a Fulham fan, his first thought after the game was that if we got Joao Palhinha type, someone who just loves defending then we would be cooking. I think an actual defensive midfielder is someone who we will need to find to do well in the big games against top sides.

Sure, as proportion, that us true. But the best teams pick more up agains the top half than us.

But again - my comment was purely to the person who said "ange is good"
Good at beating bottom half teams.
Not good at beating top half team.

Factually correct and non-debatable. Wasn't talking about anyone else. Just ange.

Or both.
I think we have a good enough defence, or should I say set of defenders, to concede far few goals and chances than we do.
That's a tactical problem that needs addressing through the whole team.
But then we lack sufficient depth for when certain players can't play. Son came off and Werner was dismal for example.

It’s a real problem with the defence as they are good enough players but switch off badly at crucial moments!

Cereal gets soggy because it is not liquid proof!!
