Potter maybe free but he's still getting his £8m p/y compo from Chelsea until he takes a new job.

Pretty sure he'd waive his compensation for a job at Spurs.

I don't really want Potter though. I did like him at one point & even after Chelsea I think he just had the job at the wrong time, but something about his weird image change doesn't sit right with me. Just doesn't feel right. History hasn't been kind to the jobs he did either.

I can already see the script

"Dear Supporters.

As we have embarked on our new managerial search, we have endeavoured to prioritise our focus on continuing our reputation for exciting, attacking football that we know you all demand. After exhausting a long and distinguished list of applications and completing a deliberating interview process, I believe we have appointed the man who will not only meet but exceed our expectations of the fast flowing, attacking football synonymous with Tottenham Hotspur

Welcome aboard, Gareth Southgate

coys, Daniel

Why would you have a problem with this? It would mean Ange has gone!

Top 5 faves for the job, should it become vacant...

Potter 4/1
Howe 9/1
Iraola 10/1
McKenna 10/1
Southgate 14/1

Feels bad my boy Marco Silva is not up there. No chance of Howe, and likely no interest from him to leave Newc. Not sure how to rate McKenna, but I'm starting to wonder if he's doing well enough with Ipswich to warrant us being interested. Southgate in top 5 odds makes me want to vomit.

We know Levy is unlikely to want to pay a fee if he doesn't have to- I'd have to think he's looking at someone out of contract right now. Potter, Southgate, and Terzic are the ones I've seen us linked with.

Terzic I worry could be a fatal flop coming to English football in this scenario. Southgate so uninspiring. Potter seemingly wanted to avoid us last time about.

If this is really the top 5 they have come up with I really wonder if the right criterion being selected, the right questions being asked kind of thing. I'm praying Levy makes the right choices. Hoping somehow he can mend fences with Potter and get him to bring his positivity and personal development regime here- we need it.

Potter and Southgate are free so it will be one of them probably.
I hate to say it but it really has Southgate written all over it. All that has to happen is for Potter to not change his previously held position about Levy/Spurs. I don't believe Southgate is going to ever be seriously courted by Utd/City/Pool/Chels/Ars anytime soon, nor do Newc or Villa need him either. Brighton won't want him. We're like the only two single people at the bar, and it's getting close to closing time.

What would the lineup even be like? I'll take a crack:

Southgate 4-2-3-1:

Vic
Porro-Romero-VdV-Udog
Benta - Sarr
Kulu - Maddison - Son
Solanke

Tactics would be to sit very deep then Romero to boot it long to Solanke and for Kulu and Son to make a mad dash. Repeat a thousand times. Sterling would be bought from Chelsea and Rashford from United to make us better at it.

Southgate would do a better job than Ange, in my opinion.

The bloke from Bournemouth has the Poch vibes. Fulham boss has done a great job with them, he feels like more of a Harry Redknapp pragmatist type, which I'd also like.

Sterling and Rashford 😂
I did almost include some prospective english attackers to be brought in... I'm not mad at Southgate for favoring his nation, but it's a very predictable outcome.

If Brentford win today vs Brighton we'll be 12th in the table with more or less half the season played. If Brighton win we'll be 5 points away from the top half of the table.

It's hard to understand how a more clear signal as to Ange's underperformance could be conveyed.
They drew- we're now in 12th place, 5pts off 7th place and Europe, and 11 pts off 4th and Champions League.

If we lose versus Wolves we're on pace for 46 pts for the season. If we win versus Wolves we're on pace for 52 pts for the season.

I had a slight wobble yesterday over Ange, but then slept on it and remembered he isn’t the true villain, just last in a long line of poor bastards left in the lurch by the cunts in charge

I’ll stand by Ange till the end, like I have with all managers bar Mourinho

A momentary lapse in the programming is all it was.

If it’s Southgate the phrase ‘’fold the club’’ becomes relevant. That would be the worst hiring probably in our history at least last 30-40 years.

Southgate would 100% be doing a better job than Ange right now.

Football would be atrocious (I'd stop watching which I'm close to now anyway as we are so diabolical under The Fraud) but he would have us better organised, would make adjustments to compensate for the missing players/weaknesses, and wouldn't just be wedded to some philosophy.

Larry,

You’re overthinking it. We all know ENIC are the fundamental problem. Their intransigence prohibits true success.

But any manager can still get judged on basic stuff. The bread and butter of building a team. Ange is limited, one dimensional, inexperienced at this level and obstinate. An elite coach has to demonstrate more sophistication.

Replacing him doesn’t alter the overall position with ENIC.
