Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It is rare. A manager/head coach usually has at least parts of his own staff that he brings along. If not a full set. But some roles being filled in house by the club isn't uncommon either. Jose for example has like 2-3 guys that are his constants, then he switches some out depending on the club he is at. Poch has his full crew that follows him wherever he goes.

Putting a fully new staff together for a new job like Ange does is very rare.

Who did he take to celtic with him? The guys at celtic wanted to stay there so what can ange do?

It really does bother me that he didn’t show up with a coaching entourage like most managers we’ve had in the past

Sorry mate this was a massive red flag from the off. It actually speaks to a really strange kind of egotistim and a worrying lack of fine detail. Which now makes perfect sense. If the coaches are learning the system at the same time as the players this leaves zero room for error. If this was good practice the total reverse would not be industry standard..

He thinks he reinventing the wheel. On a very basic level if no one has been on the coaching journey with you they can't reassure the players when it gets bad that this is a genuine part of a winning process. It's one of the first things that worried me.

It really does bother me that he didn’t show up with a coaching entourage like most managers we’ve had in the past. From what I read he starts with new staff every time he gets a new role. There wasn’t a single person from his time at Celtic that came with him. I’m not sure how common this approach is, my assumption is it’s probably rare.
amateur stuff. would of been laughed at in the early 90s, never mind 2024.

Overlapping/traditional full-back mostly just make one-timer cross/quick 1-2 with winger and runs back into position. Also he provides width to our CBs and CMs during build-up in less crowded pitch areas. If we lose the ball (mostly its not fullback who loses it) then its easier for given full-back to track back and cover his side - because of his starting position.

I find it much less riskier than playing as some sort of 6 during build-up on our half, and as 10 when in possession in final 3rd - mostly because we expect our full backs to operate in very crowded areas, where its easier to lose the ball. And for guys like Udogie or even Spence its not natural environment. We lose ball in such scenario typically means whole wings are exposed.

Also worth to mention that with traditional fullbacks usually only one is involved in final 3rd at once, so another can sit deeper, or join at later stage of action when ball switches side. In our gameplan, we usually involve both of them at once.
The thing about inverted FBs is the whole design of being inverted is that they clog the middle of the pitch and act as the start of the rest defense for transitions. It’s a tactic that’s been part of most of the best teams across Europe for the last decade.

But when they get forward, one of the CMs probably need to rotate into the FB positions they vacate. They big spaces open up when nobody rotates or the player rotating gets beaten.

Ange’s system isn’t especially different to what Pep and Klopp have been winning the PL with for the last ten seasons.

According to Sami Mokbel, he has up until the CC semi final against Liverpool (unsure on if it is just the first leg or both) to save his job.

Whenever a manager is giving a goal like this you know that they are hanging loose. Let's see if it is the kick up the ass needed for Ange to prioritise results over philosophy.
Unlikely because he believes his philosophy is how he gets results.

He will either win those games playing his way, or he’ll lose and be gone

His lack of a backroom staff has never sat well with me. I simply don't understand how you can come to the PL and rely on coaches who have never worked with you before, to drill the players on your philosophy and patterns etc. It might work in third rate leagues but definitely not in the PL. I want to see Spurs employ best in class and that also means I want to see a manager with a dedicated specialist coaching team, I mean I can't even believe we have to talk about it, it's usually a prerequisite.

It just reeks amateur hour. Ange just reeks amateur hour. I've called him a few words but in reality there's no need to get vitriolic about him, I just want to see him gone and I will wish him the best. I am sure he's a nice man underneath the arrogance and stubbornness and gruff with the media. He is just pitifully out of his depth hand has been for a long time.

For me that Chelsea game last season was when I really wobbled and thought we have a chancer here. Alarm bells were well and truly ringing and nothing I saw as last season progressed changed my mind. He should have been sacked in the summer, that was a mistake and I am sure the people who called me negative and a moaner won't come on here and say sorry you were right about Ange. The club no doubt let Ange down in the summer with our woeful window, I was even more sure at that point that our season would be a disaster. But was told three teenagers were all going to be world class and should stop moaning. But some us called this so early, it makes me question again the type of clowns actually getting paid well at the club to run the football side. Despite the club fucking up the summer window, it still doesn't mean you back the wrong man, and Ange definitely isn't the right man. We are as big a mess I can remember seeing, as far back as the 90s.

I think he's dug himself into a hole and can't back down now. He's become a parody of himself, but what annoys me is it feels like the club has become a playground for Ange's ego and an experiment, and sorry that isn't acceptable. He just doubles down despite alarming results.

He got promoted well above his station, should absolutely never have been hired, and what it does show is there is genuinely levels to this management business.

You can see in Europe when he comes up against proper teams, he gets tonked. His system plainly doesn't work at the top level and fuck the club for even thinking it was possible.

to drill the players on your philosophy and patterns etc
to be fair, there is none. hes not anywhere near a level where he needs a specialised coaching setup. its what an 8 year old would come up with on a football manager game.

the whole things bonkers, hes not even a football manager ffs hes a motivational speaker...

the crazy thing is, this guy actually has people following him about thinking hes special! BONKERS

levy has been sucked in by his waffle too, only idiots that dont understand football would get sucked in and we have a chairman that has proved hes clueless.

I've been watching quite a lot of Spurs content on Youtube over the Christmas break (yes I'm bored) and I'm baffled by how almost everyone of them want to stick with Ange because "there isn't anyone better out there" or "he needs to see this project trough". Maybe they are all right and I have a brain rot but I really don't get it.

Is there where i passive aggressively say “so you want us to lose now do you?”

I wonder if we beat Wolves and lost to Newcastle, how many of the crew of manager sackers would prefer we lost to the scum if it meant the manager got sacked?

"Crew of manager sackers" lol.

I wanted Jose sacked and this guy sacked. Jose because he was and is past it as a top level coach and things were never going to improve. I never wanted him hired in the first place. And this guy because he just isn't up to this level and nothing has changed my mind on him .. again, never wanted him hired in the first place. Other coaches I was more or less behind, that title makes it sound like wanting to sack coaches is some kind of addiction.

Difficult one. We hit point of no return ages ago imo, we're sticking by him out of necessity due to nobody being available. I think he's a dead man walking regardless unless we get some kind of european football, Levy will just wait till the summer to pull the trigger.
