Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not sure if he's been found out, he is still very good at standing a man up and beating them, he commits defenders... something we desperately need.

Levy has been willing to spend decent money on prem players...Maddison, Richarlison, Solanke and Johnson cost a fair bit. Maddison and Solanke around 26-27 when we bought them too.

But Brighton will probably want 80 mill plus for Mitoma, they don't sell cheaply. Unless he has one year left on his contract like Madison had I'm not sure of this one ever happening

Why would we sign a soon to be 28 year old who has never registered more than 5 assists?

This is my continual problem with the disconnect between supporters and reality. Dribbly wingers are some of the most "exciting" players in the game because that 1v1 take on is one of the most exciting things in football. But winning it means fuck all if you don't convert it into a goal or assist which is the only thing that actually wins matches.

Mitoma has 0.34 crosses into the penalty area per 90. Johnson has 0.25.

Mitoma has 1.94 shots per 90. Johnson has 2.73.

Mitoma has 0.29 G+A per 90. Johnson has 0.49.

Mitoma has 3.43 progressive passes and 10.8 progressive passes received per 90. Johnson has 3.04 and 9.32.

Mitoma has 5.49 progressive carries per 90. Johnson has 2.86.

Mitoma has 1.03 tackles won per 90. Johnson has 1.24.

Mitoma has 4.86 take ons attempted and 2.11 successful per 90 (43.5%). Johnson has 1.74 attempted and 0.87 successful (50.0%).

So Mitoma runs at players more often, but has a lower success rate. He converts this into roughly the same crosses and significantly fewer shots, ultimately contributing fewer goals and assists. He also has fewer tackles attempted and successful (despite playing for in a team with worse possession statistics).

He's not a bad player. But he's 4 years older than Johnson and not a substantially better player in any way other than he runs at people a lot more often (and, again, does so less successfully). But the inherent bias created in supporters' mind by the dopamine laced excitement of watching a 1v1 take-on fools some into thinking he's a more effective player.

If we don't think Johnson is a great RW, why would we want Mitoma on the LW?
Mitoma is a completely different type of player to Johnson. And a far superior technical footballer.

Johnson needs a Mitoma... Johnson is a goal getter and can't beat a man. Mitoma is the complete opposite.

I get what Ange is kinda saying regarding injured players coming back but that's why signing Tomori would make sense.

Also just go and get Mitoma..... He is the only elite dribbler winger that we could actually get.

Williams, Vini jr, Barcola, musiala, wirtz... We can't get but Mitoma we should be able to.
Should have got eze last summer. Imo theres something not right between maddison and ange. In and out of team. Perhaps ange has figured out maddison is very inconsistent. Should definitely get eze though in summer.

Exactly, I think we like to target potential signings who are in the last year or out of contract.
Also youngsters who, cost less and can be offered lowered salaries, this looks to be the data led approach at the club.

We bought Lineker for like 2mil (maybe half our most expensive signing to that point?) and he spent 2 years with us then went to Japan for an easy life. That is definitely a fading star.

Klinsmann cost us 1.5m and left after a year. Then came back for 6 months because he couldn’t get game time and we were in trouble. Then went to the USA.

let’s put things in context please.
2 out of 3 of Lineker's best season's were with us. He literally only had 1 season in the rest of his career that was better than any of the 3 seasons he was with us. Hardly a fading star.

Surprisingly little shot / assist involvement (xG 0.06, xA 0.10, xA2 0.06) considering the tekkers apparent on the highlights reel. Compare to say Sarr (0.18 / 0.13 / 0.26). Makes me wonder what he's doing between the highlights.

Turnovers per 90 is 16, compared to Sarr at 13.4. Wins the ball back 10.7 times per 90, Sarr 11.4.

Doesn't really excite me unless Kulu or Madders are leaving.
Not sure where you are getting your stats from, but according to Fbref, he and Sarr are very similar across the board, with the biggest differences in successful dribbles (Rios twice as much), Tackles (Rios 50% more attempted with a higher success%), Errors (Rios has 0, Sarr averages 0.08 per 90) and xG (Sarr almost 3 times higher, however they are equal on actual goals).

Mitoma’s XA90 is 0.22

Johnson’s XA90 is 0.13

Mitoma is creating almost twice the quality of chance per game that Johnson is.

Also, different systems. There’s every chance Mitoma gets more of the ball in attacking scenarios with Ange’s system - our XG is +10 of Brighton’s.

The frustrating thing is it’s a one time cost. We aren’t on life support like Chelsea under Roman where they lost 100M every season…. We need a boost, and then we can become self sufficient
Absolutely agree with this.

We've got the young players that will set us up for the next 5+ years, we now need to bring in the quality for the immediate term.
