Those cross field pings to Son.

Not new but way more consistent. Same for the passes between the lines, they are definitely arriving more pinpoint and zippier

These one player match montages are usually shit, but that actually was a decent one, which highlighted a bunch of different facets of his game that have incrementally improved. I’m still not sure his ceiling is as high as some think it is, but he’s a good guy to have around.

He's gradually earning/has already earned his place as a regular first-teamer.

Especially considering how Ange likes to use the likes of Kulusevski and Maddison in deeper roles, there's no excuse for not playing him next to them. Having a water carrier type that'll provide cover for defenders, retain possession, win second balls and do other little things will not only help the team in general, but it'll also allow these players in particular to express themselves more freely with the ball.

Combining the most creative midfielders together, like that Bentancur/Kulusevski/Maddison trio Ange uses occassionaly, doesn't directly lead to better ball retention and control of the match. Bentancur, while a quality player himself, is not as good of a fit for that workhorse/enforcer/water carrier role as Sarr is, and I don't see any other alternative. Just start with writing his name on the team sheet and have your pick with the other two spots.

I can see him playing a role similar to what Wanyama and Dier did for those Pochettino teams. An unsung hero who's vital to team's success. Teams definitely need those, as evidenced by the fact that we really suffered after failing to replace those two. Hope Sarr will perform at a high level for years to come and fill a much needed void.

Amazing how some players get the microscope treatment for every fault and others get a free pass.

Says a lot more about the viewer really.
Sarr gets a pass because he is a kid who is running on fumes. If you are a viewer and don't see that then you need glasses.
When Bents gets back and Biss is replaced and maybe Gray gets pushed into MF we will see him release his potential.

Not sure he has the ceiling some claim. Some great attributes but just not quite good enough technically.
There was a time last season when some folks said maybe he could be a ballon d'or CM someday. That obviously is not going to happen. But he still can become a very, very good midfielder. With a better coach and system to shine in I could see him being in the PL team of the season for at least a season or two.

We really should be running tactics that take better advantage of his long shooting abilities. That curling/dipping strike he hit recently was an absolute plum- not many around can strike a ball like that. I think as well all know though this current system imposes itself on the players rather molding itself to their strengths. There's unfortunately a lot of that in our squad right now.

I was one that thought he would go to the top.

When he first started getting minutes for us, I felt like he had that certain something about the way he moved. A silkiness to his play that you can only really see through eye tests.

But over the last year plus, I feel his technical ability has really fallen off a cliff. He still has plenty of value but I’m not so sure he has the ceiling I thought he did a couple years ago.
