Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Go. For. Thiago. Motta.

Italian and French press saying Juve are sounding Xavi out. Probably pure bollocks but regardless, we should go after Motta and make him an offer he can't refuse.

But yeah...Levy.

Levy sticks by a manager who got him into a relegation battle but sacked a manager who got him 4 consecutive Champions League qualifications, two title challenges and a Champions League final.

Why does Levy do these things?

What is the common theme that motivates these decisions?
Whatever will allow him to extract world-leading ticket prices from the fans without spending anywhere near commensurate money on players.

That always has and always will be the Levy mission. The exact particulars of it evolve as the game does.

Right now he's turning over a new leaf and playing make-believe that Ange is his Arteta.

Jesus Christ! 15 new pages since I last refreshed this thread 2 hours ago. What jobs do you all do and are there any vacancies??

I thought there had been an announcement 😅

Why isn’t Ange considered a dinosaur?

He’s sixty and never won anything of note. People think he’s some hip cool kid because his style of football is so fucking stupid, everyone else drops it by their mid-20s.

He’s little more than a glorified 5 aside manager.
Ange would have done beter with the profile of winger his teams attacking play depends on.

He may have failed at some point, for other reasons, even if he had been given his preferred options.

The real issue with Ange is that he was probably just glad to get the job and has complied with Levy's instructions.

The treatment of Spence and the fact that Archie Gray has to play every game suggest that Levy attempts to dictate team selection with weaker managers who will be more compliant.

Spence is clearly the best full back at the club but to protect Porro's value he has been excluded from Ange's team selections until Spurs were desperate.

I suspect that Gray being played out of position is also due to a clause in his contract that he has to play games or he can be sold for what Levy paid.

Ange is a big boy.

He got the gig because he would probably do as he was told to by Levy.

The clues are there if you are looking for them.

And boomerang throwing...
"What's up Skippy? Ange has fallen down a mine shaft? Well fucking leave him there! MATE!!"

We are in a fucking relegation battle, nobody ever asked Levy to stick with a manager in a relegation battle.

Unprecedented levels of failure and it is gross incompetence to not rid of us the reason for that failure.

End of the day, if you are right and we crash out both cups next week then Ange will be gone.

If we get through Liverpool and Villa with 2 wins, there's no way we stay in a relegation battle with that kind of momentum behind us.

Either way, may as well see where we end up.

I don't understand why women can't comment on the men's game...they've probably been watching it for years...
Because they're offering it from their perspective as ex-players. They haven't played in the mens game, so what are they talking about? What is their experience?
They play in a league of copycat teams with none of the history or rivalries that the mens teams have had for 100+ years.

That's not to say i think mn know what they're talking about. Most of them are dumb asses too. But at least idiots like O'Hara has actually played for THFC mens team - DURING Levy's tenure. His insight is worth infinitely more than some northern woman who doesn't play the same sport.

There are women (and men) who have never played the game who offer far more from a punditry perspective. Non bias, analytical, fact based and well presented. These are the people that need to be elevated in this area. Not any old ex player who kicked a ball wearing a shirt of a PL team.

We were discussing Werner. Each case is to be handled individually. Anything else is just weak whataboutery.
Werner was our best winger in 3/4 of his prem starts.

In Ange Postecoglou system Werner and Mikey Moore are the best suited to his system, odobert hasn't played enough to be part of the conversation.

Werner is the least of our problems and Postecoglou tried to make him his biggest problem. Yet when he don't play we are just as shit or arguably worse.

I’m not sure he is as astute as people say he is.

Overcooked naming rights deal, those deals no longer in vogue
Stadium late ( happens)
Stadium massively over budget ( happens but this is area of supposed expertise)
Not being willing to spend to consolidate top 4 when very much in pole position
Has spent god knows how much in poaching managers
Spent a lot more in comp for sacking managers
Same story on poaching and firing DOFs
For every Bale , Brebatov and Modric there are way more NDombele, Lo Celso and Bentleys
175k a week for Werner (twice just lol)
If we finish 15th instead of 5th that’s 31 million loss on Prem money alone ( excl loss of CL )

He has bled the fans dry to enrich himself and the odious Lewis admittedly , not genius or clever just cynical and greedy

Well that is my opinion of his business acumen at least .
Great post

It’s a very mixed record, even financially, when one considers the underlying driver of his asset appreciation, which is the massive growth in the franchise value of elite football clubs

I think you're right. At Celtic Postecoglou often brought players off at 60 minutes in order to maintain the pace game to game (according to the BBC article that quoted a staffer there). Playing 90 minutes at one tempo isn't practical in the Premier League. And if you're a player thinking about where to transfer, do you want to play for a manager who might end your career early. Van de vyn is a good example. How many more hamstring injuries can he sustain?
And the PL vs often better opponents than us, and at a faster game pace, will likely exacerbate it vs Celtic
