He was being sought by many clubs, and by all / many reports from reputable outlets wasn't keen on us until the call from Ange.

The Club and Ange did well here.

Porro. Kulusevski. Udogie. Vicario. Van De Ven. All signed in the last 5 years and could start for most clubs in the world imo (if they came with extra hamstrings). If you look at probably the best players in the league at the moment it was Liverpool with a punt on Mo Salah, Chelsea with a punt on Palmer, those lots centre backs were both 'punts', Gravenberg from Bayern was a punt. Our punt on Gray looks pretty good. Forrests entire team. Recruitment isn't just Mourinho buying the best player in a position in the world anymore, Man City aside.

I agree but I think 40 million for Gray was quite an aggressive purchase, but it’s far from the norm
 
Controversial take - leaving it too late aside and pending Tel’s performances/whether we can take up the buy option, we secured a likely starting gk for the future, a cb who actually fits our style and one of the best prospects in world football. If it all works out, we might actually regard this window in hindsight as a good one. Weird.

Who are these elite-level players you're expecting we can tempt from the likes of Real, Barca, Bayern and City?

So our last 4 January windows we have picked up

Bentancur, Kulusevski, Porro, Danjuma, Dragusin, Werner, Kinsky, Tel and Danso.

Pretty decent bar 2 IMHO -

Credit where it’s due, that’s not normal for January.

We have no idea how Danso and Tel will work out but like you said, despite being very late, you can’t fault the intent behind the window.
