Thats a very expensive deal. I think Levy really wants this guy and hopes that by giving him games and letting him see the stadium, training ground and London life he can convince him to stay long term.

I think Levy gets more enjoyment out of making superstars than buying them.

"Could pay" infers some of that loan fee is performance based, structured in such a way that if he were to meet the full stipulations of that 10m euro fee it would be peanuts compared to what he'd contributed in that time.

It seems pretty likely that Gray is shaping up to be an elite CDM. By the time he's bulked up in a few years, he'll be there or thereabouts.
Playing at CB will only help him in the future as well IMO, he will have a better understanding of the game having seen attacks develop from further back and will better understand what is needed of him as a 6 shielding the defence. I'm glad he hasn't spent too much time playing as one of Ange's weird inverted full backs, not exactly sure how well that translates to being the destroyer we need in midfield.
He is so mature beyond his years as well, his ability to put his hand up and admit the mistakes, as well as learn from them and carry the responsibility his squad place demands rather than hide behind his age is very commendable, we have a future captain there mark my words.

If Rice or Grealish were elite transfers, Marmoush was.

I didn't say they were.

Expensive does not mean elite..... You know this.

(Stop trying to contort the phrase-ology too.... "elite trfs".....? LOL)

Liverpool bought Darwin for 90m as an elite player because of what he’d done in the champions league. His hype was that he was elite.

Haha..... Now I know you're shit-housing me.

"hype"?

Hype does not mean he was a proven "elite" player.

Haaland like you said. It happens

Extremely rarely...... Which is the point to which you're failing to counter.

It's extremely rare because the type of players that you seem to be allowing to fit the criteria are extremely rare. That's it. Not because Prem clubs don't want to buy them. How many Prem clubs would love to buy Nico Williams? The issue is that his club understand how rare he is as well so it's going to be a battle between the biggest clubs in the world, of which only some of them are in the Prem.

Where I will agree with you is Chelsea. They seem to be a bit burned by Caicedo and have changed the profile they want to recruit now. All about young players for them and talent hoarding now. In the past they were trying to sing superstars.

I agree but isn’t it up to the player at the end of the day ?

I don’t know how it works but if we have an option to buy & the player doesn’t want to then what happens ?
That depends on the specifics of the clause - the main point is that the selling club have no choice, if we trigger the option to buy then they have to accept at the pre-agreed price. Yes it is possible - in my opinion likely in this instance - that the player himself may have a clause whereby he can reject the permanent move in the summer, but that's completely different to what was being said by the poster I was quoting - he was saying that even with a buy option, the selling club can still refuse to sell - which is just obviously nonsense.

Do you think we could operate in the transfer market a bit more freely, with a bit more risk given our PSR headroom?

Yes, is the answer, we could. But we chose not to.

You said you wanted to take the same "level" of risk as Villa.

"Wish our owners had their their levels of riskiness."

If you'd merely said "I'd like us to spend a bit more" you'd have had no arguments.... But you didn't.

Maybe these guys will all develop and we have to eat our words. I dunno.

This list is shit and I can prove it, because there was a Swedish bloke used to come on here. He told us all ( more than once) that Lucas Bergvall was junk. Barely a footballer more an ugly Majong player who had lost his way in his miserable misbegotten life. And was so reviled he wouldn't be allowed back in Sweden. I miss that guy, he knew his stuff.

They've certainly been playing funny buggers with other clubs to all get round PSR but that wage bill... That's gonna sting at some point.
Haven't FIFA put a ruling in that wage to income ration has to be brought down to 70% by something like 2027?

For Villa to sustain their wage bill, their revenue would have to be significantly higher than it currently is you'd think. Considering how long it took us to reach our current level, you'd think that they'd have a snowball's chance in Hell of doing that over the next 2-3 years, even if they got CL on a regular basis.

I wasn’t asking about the selling club as it’s pretty bloody obvious if they allowed an option to buy then they’ve already agreed to it

If you’ve have read my reply to Shadydan Shadydan you’d know that I was saying at the end of the day it’s up to the player . No option to buy would be compulsory as you could end up with a player who simply wouldn’t play .
