Amazing that Iraola is winning at Goodison with multiple kids in the team, players out of position, lots of key players out etc .. 2-0 up as well, we were 3 down by half time there.

Here was me thinking if you had an injury crisis you’d be lucky to not lose every game 4-0 or to be able to beat Tamworth in 90.
The last time I made this point I was told we are different because we have European football to deal with whereas Bournemouth do not. I suppose it’s true- we’re not Bournemouth.

If we lose to Villa I can’t support him anymore.

But I’d want them to get someone who inspires me to think the goal is still winning things and becoming a truly elite club.

Iraola, Frank, Silva… all the popular names are people just about treading water between 8th and 4th.

Yeah let’s go and hire another manager from some crap league just because he talks about winning, instead of hiring someone proven to get teams punching above their weight and doing it at a relevant level.

Essentially you want another snake oil salesman with an inflated ego who talks a good game. Maybe we could hire that ego maniac Welsh guy who was shit for Southampton. He talked a big game too.

The xG for that game showed it for what it really was

It was a case of us getting an early lead through an own goal vs a side who are very strong defensively and good in transition but not a good possession side. They were forced to break us down which they aren’t built for, and their forwards (Mbuemo especially) had an off day.

They also aren’t very good - bottom half for a bloody reason.

My vote would be Xavi.

And actually give him the wage structure and transfer budget to compete,

He’s a manager with a history of bringing through elite teenagers and we know he wanted Bergvall.

I don’t want another above average, latest trend type who will sack off the likes of Gray, Bergvall, Odobert and Moore just so they can finish 6th

Xavi? He didn’t stand out in the most perfect environment possible for him as a coach. He would resign after about two months managing in England.

He also managed Barcelona. It’s not hard to have a history of bringing through teenagers when those teenagers are Pedri and Yamal. That club always produce world class young talent.

He won La Liga with a Barca in chaos and the lowest budget for transfers they’d had in ages.

You can say it’s not hard to bring through those teenagers but he still did it. And he’d do it with the teenagers we have.

Plus he has the gravitas to maybe kill the player power we have here. No player in their right mind is ever even starting the conversation with the WhatsApp group to say Xavi doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It probably still rears its ugly head as soon as things get tough anyway but he’d have more chance than any of the other names going around.

Dier summed up Ange’s approach pretty well last year. He was accused sour grapes but actually praises elements of his coaching methodology in the article. Rereading it does highlight to some extent why we have reached this point. Although as many are pointing out its Levy who is the true villain here.

Moore, odobert, richarlison , Romero, VDV and bentencur banned.

3 - 4 starters.

Vs Rodri, Dias, Ake, Kovacic, KDB only fit to come on late etc..

Our team was strong. Bentancur vs Sarr is a toss up, Richarlison is always injured and Odobert and Moore are kids ffs. Never did we go in to the season thinking we would rely on them.

Respectfully Dier misunderstood what he was doing. Players think 11 v 0 shape work is “tactics” . What he’s described by Ange there is a games based and constraints led approach to coaching where you teach tactics in game situations. It’s as evidenced based as you can get really when it comes to coaching to develop decision making

The plan must have been to rely on Odobert and Richy because we didn’t sign another CF and Odobert was the player we signed after Neto went to Chelsea

But none of the injuries are real first team player. It’s like us having VdV and Romero available, but having Philips and Davies injured. Very different from it being the other way around

Idea was clearly Solanke has a good fitness record and in a pinch Son can play up top. City only have one recognised striker too, as do quite a few teams. Richarlison is broken.

Kulu/Brennan for the right and Werner/Son for the left.

They literally don’t have a recognised fit right back or striker and have a kid playing in midfield along with other midfielders who wouldn’t usually start and a CB who was a regular out long term..

Obviously Richy was broken but that's not the same as persuading Levy that his 60m investment has no value. They probably did try to sell him but as soon as he wouldn't go they were forced to rely on him as the backup CF because no budget would be made available to sign one, especially when that would devalue Richy as an asset if he was 3rd choice.
