Another thing that is hard to understand about his style. After the game he said we were too passive in the second half like there was nothing he could do about it. Why not take a step forward and get into the players?

He had 2 of the leaders group on his side of the pitch second half, get into them as well…leaders do your job and lead.

IMO he is a good communicator and his way of getting the players to buy in to his vision is to praise rather than giving them the hair dryer-even if they deserve it- because he genuinely believes that's will the best out of them. (Of course if a player repeatedly lets him down, he has a history of dropping them to the bench and then moved on in the off season).

The other major issue is player power, and the fact that he is a managerwithout a pedigree at the highest levels of club football. That curtails the power he has to give players the stick.

I've read also comments that our players are mentally weak, and- worse- that this reflects the culture that permeates the club. Conte alluded to it, Maurinho too, as has Postecoglou. If his predecessors failed to bring about cultural change, what hope does a no-name have?

ran the Brighton marathon yesterday in searing heat and a tough wind. Beat my PB by 40 mins. Didn't walk once. (OK blatant)

My mates all crowded round me at the end as I was staggering around with a medal and not quite knowing what was going on. I couldn't wait to be congratulated, lifted onto shoulders, carried round like an FA cup winning scorer or skipper.

"bad news mate! We won so he's still in charge for Thurs!"

What a fucking let down

Thought this was a pretty interesting watch. Sorry if it's been posted before. The comment about the players having to have ultimate synergy for the system to be at its best is a total failing given how much the manager changes the team, even with everyone back. It relies on players being too clever imo, which none of ours are particularly. That and just generally being risk averse.

Also relies on our players being a bit smart and having a bit of savvy when instead we have Spence and bergvall colliding in the right wing position

You’re actually insane.

I like that.

We could do great things together.

Not sexually. Don’t get too excited.
You and i tho!

He has a history of not playing within the limits of his players ability. But risk averse? I've never hear that said about his football philsophy.

That's on the players themselves tbh. You don't see them taking risks in game anymore. It's all too predictable.
because when they lost the ball they all had a 70 yard sprint back every time. its braindead football.

hes killed the morale in the squad a long time ago. he needs to go its as simple as that, theres been no coming back for over a year, but we have a chairman who is clueless when it comes to the game so cant see it.

if youve ever played football youll know the hardest bit of the game is having to sprint back...if you have to do that everytime you lose the ball you are not going to take risks, its painful.

Agreed, that has to play on their minds as well. I'm not defending the 'system'. It's playground stuff really. Flood forward, flood back.
yes its playground stuff. hes potentially ruined VDV's career.

id love us to play against teams that played like us every week. imagine everytime you win the ball you have a whole half of the pitch to play into and get forwards in a foot race with defenders....easiest game you can have.

Congratulations on the marathon. A few from our club ran it too and mentioned how warm it was.

Ref the host. He’s jumped ship from his employers then! Listened to about 30 seconds and had to turn it off. Sound was terrible.

Be interesting to see how he grows his channel. He usually has a decent take on things.

I genuinely thought the injuries in Nov, Dec and massively impacted the squad and serious criticism of Ange was unfair. And that he was badly let down by the club in Jan, and it was not all his fault. But since Feb, and players have returned, we look clueless. The football is disjointed, slow and predictable. Our defence is like a sieve. We cannot defend counter attacks or the back post. Our central midfielders look slow, lethargic and have zero creativity. Our WFs, look devoid of ideas and confidence (whether Son, Tel, Johnson, Odobert, Werner etc.). Ange ball is broken, it has been figured out, and he has to go.

One of the big problems I think we have is that our FBs invert way too soon. As soon as our CBs get the ball the FBs are stood halfway in the oppo half in a central position, which is congested with passing routes easily blocked. Watch the first 10 games of last season and the players ran off the ball after it passed them into advanced positions. The play was 1 or 2 touch, and midfielders always had a forward pass option. Now, when our CBs have it, the only pass is a ball to the WFs who have to run back towards their own goal with no FB behind him to lay the ball off to. Both Son and Johnson look terrible comign towards their own half. The only way we are creative is if Romero pulls off a 'through the eye of a needle' pass and Maddison or Kulusevski turn their man, or if VdV thunders through the opponents press with an aggressive run.

i think a club like SOuthampton will suit Ange as a next assignment...
smaller club - & they like to play out from the back. Have a good crop of academy kids - so he can hone their skills like he did with Djed Spence :ange-hmm:
good fit if they can keep ramsdale.

Excellent post.
