Therein lies the problem.
What use is a CB that only turns it on for the biggest games?!
Personally he's an utter Rolls Royce of a defender and peak Romero is one of the best defenders I've seen at THFC in decades.
But of course the mistakes can't be ignored. But how many mistakes does VVD make in a far better team with far more motivation to concentrate and play well in much bigger games.
It's not good that Romero needs to be motivated to not make mistakes. But I like watching players who ooze class and will be sad to see him go - which seems inevitable. And If Dragusin was a prime example of a recruitment attempt at an understudy/eventual replacement, then we are going to suffer the loss.
This is as much a club issue as it is a Romero issue.
If he ends up at RM, we’ll see if those performances become more consistent because every match at RM is a big game, same as the Liverpools, Barca of the world.
It’s a mentality that the club lack and need to aspire to get to. Romero isn’t the only one who drops stinkers in “lesser” games. Look at Tamworth for example. The club allows it.
Maybe this club needs more big games.
If we were still in with a shout of winning the PL, maybe even just getting Top 5, then every PL game would be a big game.
As a club, we should be aiming for every game to be massive.
Not for me, can’t hold a candle to either peak Toby, Jan or Ledley!
I love Toby and Jan but peak Ledley was another level to them. Ledley is clear number 1. Also I don't think you're accounting for the much worse THFC Romero has featured in vs Jan's and Toby's version

He’ll probably be far happier and enjoy football more in Spain. Bit like Lo Celso is.
Wouldn't be sad to see him go at all. He'll do really well at Atletico, Tailor Made for a manager like simeone. He's been unreliable both on and off the field for us. Won't be missed.

Fucking get him out. He IS good but erratic and he’s lost all focus here. He will do very well in Spain, probably make a La liga team of the year and everyone will regret it.. but that’s where he’s suited and he’s not committed to us on any level.
