The thing with Atletico is they piss around with transfer fees... take PEH... he was ready to go but they were miles apart when it came to evaluation. I can see them offering 30m and when we say no the starting fee is 75m, they will come back with the following counter... 33m spread over 3 years (11m a year) + 0.5m per trophy in the first year, 0.3m per trophy in year 2 + 500k when he makes 100 appearances and 13.5% sell on clause in year 1 dropping 1% every year thereafter. I honestly can't see him going to Atletico. They won't pay the asking price. This pretty much limits Romero's options to a) PSG b) Sulking

Despite them spunking 150m pounds last transfer window... which in relative terms is quite a lot for La Liga.

Maybe they just don't like dealing with Levy?

I hope this goes through quickly. I can't stand the bloke.

It’s going to depend on what happens in the EL. If we win it, don’t rule out him signing a new contract.

If he doesn’t sign it then we probably take 50-60m. Atleti will be the ones to drag it out because they love to feign poverty and feel like they have a closed market because Romero seems to only want them…Levy would hate that and dig in even further

Surely good as gone. 27yo, wants to play in a more competitive team, flashing his fanny at La Liga.

Only thing that keeps him here is elite-tier wages imo. And we all know how that goes with Baldy.

The don't like spending a lot on individual players. They got burned something fierce by the Joao Felix purchase.

I do think that a workaround is to sell Romero as a package deal. Atletico are reportedly also interested in Bentancur. So selling both for lets say 30 mil each would still be 60m in. Which would not be what we'd want obviously but it is better than nothing.

Alternatively getting a player in exchange as part of the fee. But there isn't really anyone at Atleti that I would want except for Gallagher. And his contract length makes that unlikely.

Think 80m for those two players is a baseline.

I can't see him signing a new contract Richard... he hasn't bothered learning the lingo which I equate to him not really settling here... he plays for a chaotic cluster fuck of a club and probably doesn't want to spend his prime years wasting away here... I think it's time we all made peace (although for some it's good riddance) with Cuti moving on in the summer... plus, as you are well aware, we need to sell before we buy and he is one of the few assets who have retained a bit of market value during this dumpster fire of a season (in the league before you jump on the cup runs).

That feels like overvaluing both.

Bentancur's injury history is going to drop his value. And Romero has not had a good season. I would be delighted with 80 for both but I feel like 60 is a more fair and reasonable valuation.
Bents is worth 30 - for reasons outlined by Jaynola Jaynola in a previous post.

For all his follies, Romero won't go for less than 50 under Levy. Whether that's to Atleti or elsewhere... though I appreciate with two years left on his contract, that this is the time to cash in while we still hold some power over the player's value.
