quite often when the players do try to press they have to run 10-15yds to press the player becuase their starting position is too far away from their player, again wasted energy
with individual players pressing and some on the back foot you get these weird big gaps that open up with one pass and you have players that are not affecting the game off the ball at all. Think we really could of been more aggressive on that side as didn’t feel their defenders were anything special on the ball to get out of that consistently.

Who takes Richarlison off at half time, after the way he started that game???

Jesus fucking christ.

I thought he must have had a knock.

Give me fucking strength.

Richy at the left was giving us a different kind of aerial presence, outlet and press we were so lacking this season. We scored within a minute of the game because of Richy heading that ball back for Johnson. It's so obvious he had a positive impact to the game but Ange limited him to one fucking half.

Our subs often seemed to have let opponents coming back at us. It's really poor game management. Ange had no idea what to do but just doing it for the sake of it as if to show he's some genius. At games when we called for subs, he only did it late. At games when our players could have been playing more, he made subs at half time. Fuck me. There's not even any in between.

Yep,pretty much.

Unless the players they missed are utterly brilliant we have nothing to fear, but there is something about this club, these players and this manager, that make all of that redundant.

I expect nothing but pain for the next 168 hours

We don’t know the extent of some of the injuries either. The tie should be over, winning by 4 or 5 goals wouldn’t have been ridiculous yet I didn’t think we looked set up well to score. The goals were down to individual skill rather than team set up. Feels like I’m moaning for moaning’s sake but I think that’s just the huge frustration that we haven’t completely killed off the tie.

So barcelona play Ange ball but with world class midfielders and attackers... yet concede loads due to it being so open... so Ange ball can just never work no matter how good your players are as top coaches and opposition players will always exploit your open defence
Barca play tiki-taka not Ange ball - and they've played like that for decades. You make it sound as if Barca copied Ange's way of playing - and they are way better at pressing btw.

This really says a bit about how the Bodø-Glimt players view Ange's pressure tactics. And, like their coach, Kjetil Knudsen, they are rather unusual open about it talking about an opponents tactics (or rather lack of it):

Center-back Jostein Gundersen: I don't like to put them down, but ...
Those European matches are a bit different. They come man-to-man and are surprised that we are so good at playing us out from behind..
"It is often more difficult to break down Norwegian Eliteserie teams in that phase of the game."

Right-back Fredrik Sjøvold in particular is feisty in the comments about Spurs.
Asked by Avisa Nordland's live studio to characterize Tottenham's pressing game, he is blunt stated:
"Ass!" ("Ræva" in Norwegian).
"I wouldn't say they're ass. It's a very good team and they're good with the ball, but the pressure is no better than an okay Norwegian top-flight team. It's possible to play it out."

Lol "EL SF opponent" as if this is some barometer of quality. Give me a break. Rangers were a EL FINAL opponent not long ago.

They had 6 starting players missing, and Lazio didn't lose to them at home. They lost to them on the shitty artificial pitch, at home they ran through them ... and if Lazio are our barometer of quality (7th in a poor Serie A) we really are reaching. The team we just played have a total wage budget lower than Son's yearly wage.

The mid tier of Europe is just poor compared to the mid tier in England. United just spanked Bilbao 3-0 away. Bodo can spring some surprises now and again but that's it, in a league season in England they'd struggle to be mid-table in the championship.

United were aided by a red card and penalty away from home when they were getting dominated.

IF EL SFs are so easy, why haven't we reached one in the PL era? We've been in this competition plenty, surely we should have won it a few times if it is such a piece of piss to reach the SF?

They've typically stunk away in this comp but banged at home.

Will have their players back and a tricky artificial pitch they know every inch of inside out.

Really, we should have won 4-0 tonight, the way the game panned out.

And needed to come away with 3+, at least. imvho

Think we score at theirs and it will be enough. The more they come at us, the more space they will leave.

Barca don't play tika taka anymore, that was done when Pep left them.
I'd say it's a developed version of tiki-taka footy based on the principle of the original tiki-taka (opposing teams started to figure out how to stop them).
Pep, for example, is an example of how a pragmatic tiki-taka coach adjusted his playing style ....while Angelos is totally incapable of making any productive twerks or adjustment.

It's not at all, Barcelona are an incredibly direct team who get the ball to their forwards quickly, Tika Taka focuses on possession and recycling the ball and making short passes.

Flick's style is similar to Ange's, there's nothing wrong in saying that - that doesn't mean they're on the same coaching level.

Because for most of our recent history we have treated this competition as second rate and rested players in it.

Also because when we were in it under Poch, CL teams dropped in to it. It was much stronger then.

lol @ anyone pretending it’s strong at the moment, we could win it by beating AZ Alkmaar, Frankfurt, Bodo and the worst United team in decades.

Just accept it for what it is, an unbelievable opportunity for an easy trophy.

Bodo will more than likely score and even win but, I'm fairly confident we also will score and go through to another all English final.
This time the club will be on the end of the right result.

Its funny that this has been the easiest EL run we’ve ever had playing European plumbers/semi pro clubs all the way to the final just to watch the worst Man Utd team in decades lift the trophy.

We could/can beat United in that final .. for me that’s a 50/50 shit off. It’s two average teams who will get humped in the CL next season.

If trophies are so easy to win, why has it been so long since we won one?

If we treated it as second rate under Poch what happened under Jose and all the other Spurs managers who have played in it and never got to the SF or F?

You are making no sense. In one post you say our lack of trophies is shameful but next post you act like this competition is easy and and beneath us.

Well if you go by European rankings on clubs they are rated higher than villa who were a champions league quarter finalist.... Lazio have been 4th pretty much all year in series a

It’s not beneath us. It’s also very low quality. Both things can be true. In fact anyone pretending this isn’t a low quality competition is lying to every other person on here.

We are playing a team with a lower wage budget than Wrexham in a semi final to get to a final against an abysmal United team that we (16th in the prem!) have beaten 3 times.

Most people are sensible enough in their heads to see that this doesn’t mean anything practically speaking for Ange (sack him we are awful) but is an awesome opportunity to win something, anything!

Jesus Christ Villa have only just got back in to Europe the last two seasons. They’re obviously currently better than Lazio. They beat Bayern and PSG at home.

Bodo aren’t good lads. Have a good fucking laugh that we’ve managed to draw them in a semi final and move on.
