Spurs were once said to be in the race for him....but if all those clubs are after him I can't see Huijsen choosing Spurs

No probably not, and in some way you can look at that and be disappointed.

But, the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton etc pick up players like this every summer. Obviously there's a lot that goes into that in terms of backroom work, organisation, the overall structure of the club that enables them to do so, but it's doable.

As a club we seem to be stuck somewhere in the middle of teams like that, and the bigger clubs with "higher aspirations", and we appear to be no good at either approach as a result.

The problem with players that have joined the lower clubs and performed well, is that if we sign them we're paying the inflated fee for a "proven" player, and just assuming they can maintain that performance level at Spurs.

Odds are they won't, as we're a fucking disaster. They'd show a bit of form early doors before slipping into the usual Spurs malaise.

That also means that if we sign the players before they sign for a Brighton, Bournemouth, whoever, the player probably won't come in and perform as impressively as they would for the so called lesser club.

TLDR - Huijsen would probably turn to shit if he came here anyway so no need to lose any sleep.

You get the feeling Liverpool, City and Woolwich about to have massive summers.
For sure. Chelsea too, despite already having 138 players on 26yr deals. Man Utd will defo sign 4 or 5 quality players, especially if they're in the CL.

Think Newcastle will do some good business, like when they got Isak, Tonali, Guimaraes.

Villa will have to be clever cause their wage bill is insane, but Emery & his circle are shrewd operators.

Brighton & Bournemouth will do what they do.

That annoying fat Greek at Forest will splash the cash again to try & stay in/near that top 6.

Meanwhile Spurs can't spend money they don't have...or even that we do have.

If city get wirtz and reijnders that is a very strong midfield with rodri. Sickening they can just throw that sort of money around without care.
Wirtz is an exceptional talent, no doubt. But he's had his fair share of injuries, so intriguing to see how he deals with the famous physicality of the PL.

Big fan of Reijnders, rather frightening to think of the levels he could reach under Pep.

Not as convinced on Wirtz as many others. He's clearly a very good player, but just about every time I've seen him play for Germany he's been underwhelming. But would still be a very good signing for City. Funnily enough I think the best and most like for like replacement for De Bruyne would be Alexander-Arnold, if played in midfield.

I hope he has the guts to put him on the bench.
He won't be allowed to...Florentino Perez won't let Xabi put Real's 300-400 mil man (signing bonus + wages) on the bench, especially when he's gonna end up Pichichi in his first season.

But I agree that the kid defo needs to be taught a lesson. Same thing with the NT but Deschamps has zero bollocks.
