If I say how confident I am about this squad for next season, the usuals won’t be able to keep their shit together so I’ll save it for later.

Ange will go into recruitment phone calls on zoom with the 4 top buttons undone, chest hair and a gold chain swinging.

The irony is, had we lost on Wednesday, our prospects for a new manager would have been EXTREMELY dim, this would be a job to absolutely flee from, and yet it would have been a simple decision, Ange had failed, time to move onto something else, even if it's a mediocrity like Marco Silva (and even he might not have taken the job).

But by winning, Ange has made the job MUCH more attractive (CL qualification and money is a big deal, but also getting the trophy monkey off the club's back makes it IMMESURABLY less toxic of an environment) and so now that he's in the frame to retain the job, his potential competition is much stronger.

I really only have two takes to offer on the situation.

1. I think it would behoove the club to take a second to breathe and think it over. What are the summer squad needs looking like and what is the backroom structure making those decisions? What kind of tactics does Ange even want to play moving forward? How strong is his support in the dressing room really? Hard to have good, confident answers to these questions in the fog of victory.

2. I am resolved not to be mad either way. It's a tricky one.

Right, yeah, that's a good way to frame it. Not sure how promising that avenue looks, even with the CL boon.

Measured and sensible response.

You sure you're in the right place?

:mourweird:

Next year we're not winning any European league. CL teams are not dropping down anymore. We're going to suck in the league again under Ange, and we're going to be in even deeper shit going forward. This man has already ruined a lot. We need to sack after the last league game. Only an idiot would be happy with finishing 17th (or 16th if we're lucky).

Ange is a great motivator, the players love him, and he's instilled a winning mentality into them. The problem is the fact that he's not good tactically. With tonight, he's talked his way back to the fans, and has made ENIC's decision 10x harder.

No shit, Sherlock.
WUM.

I’d give you a proper reply but it’s not appropriate to make fun of mentally disabled people.
2019 had a higher dopamine hit in the moment we scored, but this feels way better. We beat Ajax, it felt absolutely wonderful at the moment, but in the back of the head there was a voice thinking "job is not done". When that final whistle went on Wednesday, that relief was the best feeling I've ever had.

I wanted to stop crying like an idiot, and I couldn't. For 20 minutes. Nothing compares to winning an actual trophy, especially a European one.

Look I’m glad about winning a trophy and REALLY glad about how it made a lot of Spurs fans- people I like- feel better. That is genuinely awesome.

I just am a severe realist and cannot pretend it was more of an accomplishment than it was.

I am also not someone who cares about “trophies”- I like it when the team is the best or close to it. I enjoy watching great sporting talent. Winning EL with this oppo, in that fashion is just not particularly satisfying for me. I really am genuinely glad people feel good about the win, and I’m resigned to watching another season of Ange ball.

I've just seen the video of Ange's speech , it certainly doesn't sound like he's going anywhere , or at least that's what he thinks .
Plus I've seen plenty of 3rd season shows where it was obvious that they should have stopped at 2 , money and emotion being the drivers .
Not sure that I'm convinced that anything will change , maybe more pragmatic when we're up with 1/2 hour to go , that will get us more points . My concern what is going to change to stop us going behind by 1 or 2 within the first 20mins because we were so exposed on the flanks because that's the way we play in the league .
He said himself that he played the cup games differently at the end because they are different from the league , so that suggests that he thinks that the way he plays is the way we play in the league .
With CL as well next season we can't afford a poor start in either the league or CL and then go "Oh shit we need to change manager and now !", that's going to be too late .
Some big decisions to make for Levy , going to be interesting .

Yeah these 2 takes pretty much sum it up for me.

Wednesday night changed everything in a way many of us never envisaged, mainly because we were all so numb for a few months + we’d all forgotten how good/transformative a significant trophy can be. I had the best day of my Spurs life in Bilbao (I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1988) and Ange was my manager. I don’t want to forget that in a hurry.

It is not like Ten Haag winning the FA cup, it’s much much more than that. You only had to watch that parade to realise that.

So personally, I’ve pretty much done a handbrake turn at 100 mph on the M1. I’m not convinced keeping him is the right move, but how can we sack him now. I think we’d be a laughing stock in many circles if we did. And no that’s not a consideration for any business decision but the football world is a bit different and reputations count.

I’m an Ange fan again. And it’s irrational. But FUCK IT!!
If reputations do count, were do we stand in the PL?

He tried to win the Caraboa Cup but we couldn't beat Liverpool over the two legs. There's no point pretending otherwise like he only wanted the Europa League. If we'd have met Liverpool in the Europa League we most likely wouldn't have won that either.

Luckily for us LFC we’re playing in a different casino .

You can only beat who’s in front of you in knock-out football; we did that. And won a European trophy fir the first time in 41 years .

What exactly is your problem accepting that fact ?

After his 'season 3 is better' comment I fully expect him to be here next season.

Going to support him and see what happens, no point being a miserable fucker about it, can't change anything.

COYS!!

Did you watch that parade? I’m afraid not even unbeaten seasons at home give you that. We won a significant trophy and it’s not just made ppl feel better - it’s given them their best ever Spurs memories.

You‘re saying everything I swore blind with up until 48 hours ago. But football is surely romance as well.

As ppl have said, it’s a very tricky decision Levy has now.

This momentary wave of sentimentality will be our ruin

He’s 1.0 PPG as our manager.

Over two full seasons.

How can anyone see this and say “yes give me more of that”?

The disaster that it will be next season is going to not only be on the club for their sentimentality, but some of our fans.

You’d have sacked him for a mid tablist who would have prioritized finishing top 8 over the Europa.

We wouldn’t be having the fucking time of our lives if the club did what you think is the smart thing to do.

Then you told us we’d lose to Frankfurt because they were half competent or some weak boy drivel like that.

Give it a rest, you were wrong.
