Until we get our act together in the league, we need Liverpool & City to stop Woolwich/Chelsea winning anything.

So I'm quite happy Wirtz is going to Liverpool.

Real don't want to pay money for players.

They would have to sell a few players first and they probably don't have the time to do that. I think it's a huge gamble for Liverpool to pay that sort of money for someone who will have to adapt to both the Premier League and living in or around Liverpool. It's hardly London.

It would be a statement of intent though, that's for sure. Though if someone was offering me Wharton, Cherki and a centre-back or Wirtz for similar money, I would definitely go with the former.

Wirtz looks absolute class, and yet, you look at transfers of at least 89M in history:

6 utter catastrophes (Coutinho to Barca, Felix to Atleti, Grealish to City, Lukaku to Chelsea, Dembele to Barca, Hazard to Real)

5 disappointments (Neymar to PSG, Enzo to Chelsea, Griezmann to Barca, Caicedo to Chelsea, Pogba to United)

2 less-than-unqualified successes (Mbappe to PSG, Rice to Woolwich)

It's very difficult for one player to live up to that kind of expenditure.

Yeah. It is a problem with the modern market. The stupidly high prices sets expectations that are very hard to live up to for most players.

Look at how many players that leave Brighton for big money (usually to Chelsea), and are listed as flops in spite of playing decent football for the most part. But they don't play at the 80-100 mil level.

Neither Neymar or Caicedo were disappointments. Both did an incredible job. Neymar was insane at PSG ... the only issue was injuries.

Caicedo is Chelsea's player of the season, their rock and arguably the best centre mid in the league.
