Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I really don't understand this obsession with labelling Ange a fraud.

He came to our club stating time and time again that he 'always' wins in his second season.....and he delivered....what is fraudulant about him??!

You just don’t understand the English culture that’s all.

One of the most successful football managers to have walked this planet is nicknamed Fraudiola over here.

Like calling Harry Kane a one season wonder Tap in penalty merchant.

Welcome to England. It’s just what we do.

The flip side with Ange is he’s not the most consistent and genuine in what he says.
So yeah he did what he said. He also said a shed load of stuff he then did the opposite of.

But he’s only human. If people expect him to be perfect that’s on them.

Don't let your arse friends hear this, but winning the Europa by absolutely downing tools in the PL isn't hard.

Don't ask me why it hasn't happened more often like you don't know.
Nobody has ever, to such an extent, thrown away game after game after game in order to win it.
Actually, that's wrong West Ham did in the conference league. That is closer to the Europa than than Europa is to the Champions League.

So let's not act as if he's some sort of messiah. 3rd, 4th, 5th best teams from 1 or 2 team leagues are nowhere near top half Premier League sides.

Newcastle won a trophy AND finished 5th.
Palace won a trophy and finished on the most points in their history.

We won a trophy and had our worst season in our 143 year history domestically.
Poch first season with very little spent got 5th and final of league cup v chavs. Ok we lost but he didn’t bin the the league. He spent very little. I think we finished 7th season before. I don’t recall poch saying oh yeah look what I did took the team from 7 to 5 like it was great achievement. This guy never stops bragging on about going from 8 to 5. He also had a ton of money spent on new players in summer 23.
The gallant thing and more braver thing would have been to keep going in the league and try to improve our position, I still confidence for the future and more importantly develop our style of play going forward. As it is after 2 years we have absolutely developed no style of proper coherent football. Added to that in the Europa we played a complete diff brand of football worse than Jose, Nuno and conte. So no we are almost left back at square one with regards the football development of the team. Who knows exactly how we are going to play after 2 years and nearly £400M spent. The money has been wasted. I think we only had 4 starters from Ange’s signings in the final the rest were all purchased pre Ange. Shocking state of affairs.

Maybe they mean he's not really a Premier League level manager.

Ange does gaslight.
He made a .massive deal about the City game last year - and how fans didn't want us to give Woolwich the title. And then year - he pretends losing all the matches waa a master plan. So we win the EL without having a shot on goal l.

He says he us all about entertaining football - but process to play two of the most boring uncreative front players imaginable week in week out.

Fair play he won something and that's what we wanted - and all the utterly shit football was worth it this year.

But like JM and Conte watching Ange's anti creative skillful forwards is only worth it if we win something.

On reflection - our football really has been off the scale terrible - I doubt we have had one goal in the top 100 goals of the season.

115 passes in a 99 minute game. That's 1 pass every 52 seconds.

I am actually English and lived there for the first 31 years of my life, so unless it takes 32+ years to understand English culture....then I get it.

It's a mis-statement that's all, people label him a fraud meaning that he's deceived people into thinking he has the required attributes at PL level. Who has he deceived? Levy offered him a position too good to turn down. It's often stated on here that any manager would love to manage Spurs, then someone takes that opportunity when it's presented to them and he's labelled a fraud.

I'm Ange out, but he's consistently said what his objective is, and he's met that objective. I can't see how that's considered fraudulent.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Xavi, Irala, Frank would be decent?

Iraola and Frank have NEVER managed a team in Europe and have 1 cup between them (Greek). Neither have a win % above 40% and have never coached high performing teams.

Managers like that have played effective football in the Premier League and also have a track record of getting more out of less. Absolutely essential if you are going to come here and work with Levy. Poch and Redknapp had this quality and the next manager needs to have it too, they have to be able to get a 50k a week player playing like a £200k a week player. Iraola and Frank have done that.

It’s always a good sign when a manager can consistently overachieve at this level.

I think the biggest fear here is “what if Levy’s on the fence” - we don’t want a bad start to next season and then firing Ange in October/November.

Personally I feel this is a great time to part company for everyone, Ange’s rep intact, Spurs with the trophy monkey off their back and more desirable to decent managers.

If we’re going to stick with Ange then he needs to be backed fully and he himself has to find that balance between defence and attack and playing 2 games a week without half the squad dying.

Fair post.

I asked ChatGpt "should tottenham fire postecoglou" and this is what it replied:

Tottenham Hotspur's decision regarding manager Ange Postecoglou is currently under intense scrutiny. Despite leading the club to its first major trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League, Spurs endured a disappointing Premier League season, finishing 17th—their worst top-flight finish since 1976–77 .

Reasons for Considering a Change

  • Poor Domestic Performance: Tottenham's league form has been abysmal, with only 38 points from 38 matches and 22 losses, setting a new record low points tally for the Premier League era .
  • Injuries and Squad Depth: Key players like Richarlison, James Maddison, and others have been sidelined, leading to a thin squad and inconsistent performances .
  • Fan Frustration: Some supporters and pundits have expressed dissatisfaction with Postecoglou's tactics and results, suggesting that a change might be necessary to restore the club's competitiveness .

Reasons to Retain Postecoglou

  • European Success: Winning the Europa League not only secured Tottenham's first European title in 41 years but also guaranteed qualification for the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League .
  • Long-Term Project: Postecoglou's approach emphasizes youth development and a progressive playing style. Sacking him could disrupt this vision and lead to another managerial overhaul .
  • Support from Players: Key players like Dejan Kulusevski have publicly backed Postecoglou, highlighting the team's belief in his methods .
Current Status

Chairman Daniel Levy has yet to make a definitive statement on Postecoglou's future. Reports indicate that the board is divided, with some members supporting the manager and others advocating for a change . The club's position remains uncertain as evaluations continue.

Conclusion

While Tottenham's domestic performance this season has been disappointing, the club's recent European success and the potential long-term benefits of Postecoglou's managerial approach suggest that sacking him might not be the optimal solution. A more measured approach, focusing on squad reinforcement and tactical adjustments, could be more beneficial for the club's future.

Guys..I've never, ever, claimed to be some kind of ITK, but a reliable geezer I'm in occasional business contact with (yesterday afternoon being one such occasion) who liases regularly with the club is absolutely adamant that the decision has already been made to run with Ange next season.
