I guess the question is, suppose we hadn't and we'd done another Frankfurt on our way to beating United. Would that change anyone's opinion?

No one is content with 17th, not even close, that's a silly thing to say.

But the other thing to note is that the league is a LOT stronger than it was in 2013-14.

Post-Fergie, terminal decline Wenger, pre-Pep, pre-Klopp, pre-Saudis, real dross at the bottom like there used to be, the pressing revolution still not arrived, that was really a nadir of the league's quality before the PL's huge TV money advantage really started to show.

You only have to look at the clubs above us to know that's not even close to the reason.

We're not talking about an 8th or 9th placed finish.

Would would you say is the point of the quotation ‘Ange has finished 5th in EPL. Has won Europe, and has won at every club and level in the game.’ if it’s not to infer his ability to manage at this level??!!

Is English your first language as you seem to have difficulty in understanding its nuances?!

If Ange was given the pre-season remit:
Just win a trophy... Win a trophy FFS!
...oh, and get us into the CL...

MOST amongst us would suggest that winning the League Cup and finishing 5th (y'know, like Newcastle did) would constitute a great season...
As many pundits are doing when referring to the job Eddie Howe did there.

But consider this: Newcastle won the League Cup but DIDN'T finish 5th, therefore not qualifying for the CL ... a good season, put the trophy hoodoo to bed,, but that's it, that trophy doesn't bring a CL place. So not great, but it'll do.

OR they lost the League Cup final to Liverpool, so the wait for a trophy goes on... BUT they finished in the CL places, so at least have that as their consolation. A fairly good season, all things considered.

Spurs and Newcastle have had remarkably similar seasons...
We've BOTH achieved a trophy, AND finished with a CL spot next season!

We just did BOTH with just ONE trophy, and rested up in the league because it wasn't necessary to finish any higher.

Whether you like it or not... or like HIM or not, Ange has played the system and won!

When the fucking conversation is about about hiring managers, mid table managers at that and Ange is being used as a comparison to said managers then what fucking nuance are you seeing? lmao. Look it aint my fault if misunderstood the point being made and you got an erection over a debate which even then you're in the wrong about anyway.

At this point you just need to stop replying with nonsense and quit whilst you're ahead if I were you.

I think the difference between us is that the disgrace of having lost 22 fucking times in the league far outweighs the temporary joy at winning a trophy.

We played Utd in the final. The only team in the competition shitter than us. Tim fucking Sherwood could have managed to get us a win in that final.

What some of us realize is that it may be the same under a new manager Nuno-style.

We're in a fraught moment here. Potential and resources to kick on, but facing an absurdly difficult schedule and with ENIC running the show it could also really be a disaster.

So best case scenario in sacking him is we get better.

Worst case scenario we stay the same.

I still don't see the valid reason to keep him. The sample size of "this is going to work" was smaller than Phil Brown's inspirational hull foray into the top 4

After the first 8 games last season we had 20 pts and were top of the league, the next 30 games collected 46 pts, this season we collected 38 pts. So after those first eight or so games in 2023, we have been getting progressively worse in the PL.

If that trend continues we'll have even less points next season. it's worrying, unless Postecoglou is going to bin his gung ho game plan that has been clearly worked out by other PL teams, we're in trouble.
