Grealish isn't a system player which is why he hasn't looked great at City.
His best years at Villa were when he got to be the engine which their entire offense ran from.
He's obviously benefited from going to City in that he has won a lot and got to work under Pep. But he's become a stylistically worse footballer as he's gone from being a dynamic threat to just a cog.
City Grealish and Villa Grealish are two completely different players.

Grealish is a 10. You only have to look at when Carsley played him for England and he looked like the guy from Villa again. He isn’t a winger unless you simply want a player good at retaining the ball under pressure.
You'd figure that Pep, who isn't exactly unused to working with a lot of creative midfielders, would have found a way to make it work. But he seems set on playing Jack out on the wing.
Pep is a bit weird. Cherki looks brilliant but is very much a maverick, be interesting to see how Pep uses him and if he bashed all the fun out of him.
He seems so oddly wedded to this particular City system no. Doku was also interesting and fun to watch before he moved there but he's had the maverick aspect drilled out of him now as well.
Exactly, hes 22 not some 18 year old super star, he under performed his xg more than any other player in the top 5 leagues last season. In no way shape or form is he worth anything near 100m. Football is mad

He did in the treble winning season, Grealish created more chances in the champs league than any other player. But then I think he turned up to pre season out of shape and stopped trying so pep got fed up,
Doku still does all his tricks etc but his problem is he has zero end product. Hes still fun to watch though.
