Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Last Summer was probably the worst window we have ever had
Everyone should take responsibility for buying such mediocre players.
Gray has shown absolutely nothing.
Might not be his fault - but £35m for a Championship player?
I agree with this. People could point to 2018/2019 but we had quality there that meant that we could hypothetically paper over the cracks. That last window was really important, it was obvious at the end of last season that the squad wasn't up to par and our depth was awful, yet the club thought that a few luxury punts like Gray and Odobert would do. Those are the kinds of punts you make when you're Liverpool or City style teams, not a squad desperately crying out for more quality like we were.

Looked ok at right back and CB weirdly but it's painfully obvious he at the moment can not play CM in the PL. Age is a factor but then Berg who's like a year older? Looks mustard so it's obviously not just that.

A loan would be good for him but people calling the signing dross are off the mark, he's a literal kid who has play CB RB LB CM and CDM in his first full season for us. He needs time and a actual position to learn and stick to

Archie makes the final England U21 squad for the U21 Euros which starts next week. 2nd youngest player in the squad. Odobert and Tel will also be there representing France, expect all 3 to be late to preseason. Dane missed out on the squad through injury.

He has a very bright future. He did not look good at all in cm imo but the chaotic nature of our setup makes it so difficult for youngsters especially those in a defensive midfield area because you're always so exposed once teams play through you're bad press.

At that age in that position it's all about structure, learning the position, reading the game, and also knowing what others around you are going to do so you are there ready to mop up and plug gaps if required but we just never had that with ange.

I expect him to grow massively with Frank in charge.

Spot on. One of things I most want Ange fired for is how damn unorthodox his pattern of play is. Serious work has to go on reteaching our fullbacks, defensive midfielders how to play their positions. Udogie, VDV, Porto Grey, Sarr all need real specification work. Work on distance and where to be both in and out of possession, it can t start quickly enough.

Agree- at worst I still think there is a very quality CB in Gray.

Agree- next manager really needs to be an effective teacher of football fundamentals. The last two years have been incredibly unorthodox- to the point of making some players regress in their net effectiveness as footballers.

Like who? How can you tell if they regressed or just aren't very good?

We had to fight off Brentford to sign Archie so he should be excited if Frank comes here. Doubt he gets a loan now assuming he has a good pre-season.
Don't be so sure.... Frank wanted to play him in goal!!!!!

But yes, I see your point... Getting a manager in ago not only SEES the potential of the players we already have, but can actually utilise them in their heat position, WOULD be advantageous!

...and maybe he can bring Wissa with him?
