Again... Im good with Ange being sacked. I dont need to rewatch the last ten games. But years of being told top four is a trophy has numbed the fanbase into rubbishing the Europa. Its madness. You think 17 years of being ridiculed would make us feel proud and remember the nostalgic beauty in winning silverware. Instead we are fawning over a mid table journeyman who has never had a top job but can make do with what hes given. This is clear sign the winning is not the priority. I worry about fans that cant see it. This isn't about Ange. This about trying to build momentum off of that glorious night in Bilbao. By all means sack Ange... but dont replace him with a P&L yes man manager. Unless we are happy fighting it out for 7th, 8th, 9th and never lifting silverware. Maybe that's what you want. Maybe you see that as glory... hey we finished above Brighton... take that seagulls!!! I don't know... hiring Frank just feels so underwhelming and kills the feel good factor from Bilbao.

Im not 100% sure i get the Frank hire but ultimately, what I've been weighing up is that any manager is a risk.for any number of reasons and I also think it is unfair to brand Frank as one thing from one job.

He doesn't have the experience but calling him an P&L yes man manager based on one appointment is kind of unfair.

Yep, it’s ridiculous. Why are we so universally hated? Glad we won a trophy. They could all see our happy faces 😆

Many reasons. Some valid. Some not.
West Ham have a chip on their shoulder from the 90s really where we were off the back of 4 decades of regular cup wins. I'd assume they were jealous of that. The we went on a dry spell they somehow flipped it to us acting like we were bigger than we were when we were more their level.

As far as I can tell the media have always had strong representation from Woolwich, United and Liverpool over the years. Clubs that know we have potential to be big but want to peg us back, so they ridicule us where possible.

Etc, etc.

Talksport have a female host who supports them. Maybe Sawyer but can't remember.
She was on the show in the 5am slot Friday and my word was she fucking bitter. She really did believe the "why would he go to Spurs" narrative.

He could come here, get sacked, and still get a far, far, far bigger job than fucking Brentford deary.

Yep it’s Natalie Sawyer. They had an idiot former Brentford player Martin Allen saying why would he go Spurs. He’s also got Westham connections ( surprise surprise ).

Can they just get on with announcing it and save us all the news cycle

Probably the bit that takes a while too. They’ll have to do the interviews and all that shit plus probably an introduction by the new chief exec etc.

I’m sure we will be twats over the number of staff he brings with him and also the fee we will try and get down. Plenty of time for us to piss Brentford off before the weekend is out.

Did we win a trophy? With your username you should opitimise the game being about glory... not top four finishes.
The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.
I'd say the golden Pochettino team of 16/17 was a lot closer to the above Danny Blanchflower quote than the 2025 Europa League. Bilbao will always be special to us but it wasn't won playing Glory, Glory football.

I'm absolutely delighted we won

But also can watch PSG a few weeks later and realise that our victory wasn't exactly the brilliant swashbuckling performance that you seem to think it was
I didn't say it was a brilliant swashbuckling performance. That's just a lie. Do you remember how we played in our UEFA Cup win against Anderlecht. How about the League Cup finals against Leicester or Chelsea. Or our 91 FA Cup in against Forest. None of those were swashbuckling. I am at a lost as to why so many fans dont see the nostalgic beauty that is winning. That is modern football for you. I just hate the thought of starting every season with top 5 as the aim. When we lifted that trophy in Bilbao I didn't care one bit that we qualified for the Champions League and I still dont. That's a Woolwich thing.

Look i understand why they are a bit bitter about losing the manager that has pretty much kept them in the premier league competing, but they are very angry and bitter towards our club Brentford fans. Never knew really they hated us, but once again that’s another set of supporters with a weird obsession about us. A lot of them are talking of Brentford finishing above us etc, Spurs fans not deserving it etc. Are they forgetting who they are? Spurs are a much bigger club with CL football, a European cup to our name and a much higher ceiling. Brentford have hit their ceiling. There are a few level headed fans on there, but a lot of bitter hatred from them

I've been reading that forum for a few days and I don't entirely agree. They're not a bad bunch, by & large rational and mature.

Depends how it was being framed. If it was 'Why would he want to go to Spurs when their chairman does not back the manager or invest in the team and then blames the manager when the heat is coming his way, let alone even actually try to win the league?" then I'm 100% with him. Why would anyone want to manage Spurs with Levy as their boss?

I listened to the Business of Sport podcast recently when they had peter Kenyon on (ex-Man U and ex-Chelsea CEO). Fascinating listen, especially when he took over at Chelsea and the lessons he had from Ferguson were implemented to instill a winning mentality at Chelsea. Yes, he had Abramovich's money, but the amount of detailed planning that went into building a winning mentality was incredible (and a major reason why they subsequently won 19 trophies in 20 years). Interestingly, it took Sir Alex 4 years to start having a consistently decent team. He took over in 1986 and when they won his first trophy (FA Cup in 1989 they finished 11th). He had to overhaul the mentality as the whole club (CEO to tea lady to kit man to players etc.) had got used to losing. He said to Peter Kenyon "Until you've won, you don't know what it's like to win, but once you've won, you never want to lose again.". Fergie didn't win a league title with United until 1992/93, 7 years after he took over. But by then he had built a winning culture at the club that would last for decades.

That is why part of me is frustrated that we sacked Ange. Whilst I understand it, and probably am 60-40 in favour of it due to the coaching/tactical side of things, part of me would have rather we'd backed him properly this summer. New 2-year contract (same duration as currently) to install authority and get the media off his back, and see what he could do with a squad as strong and deep as the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea, Woolwich etc. He clearly was prioirti=sing the mentality and had the makings of a decent squad (personality wise) with hungry players after their first trophy. It would have taken about £200m and 3 new, 'first team ready' players (with 4 or 5 leaving). But I guess we'll never know now. Time to get behind whoever the new manager is and hope Levy actually is shamed into backing them after all the criticism for sacking Ange .... not holding my breath, but signing Eze and Mbuemo next week would take the edge off it for me ;).

club full of wingers if we also keep Tel. it'd be Gil, Tel, Mbuemo, Odobert, Johnson, Son, Soloman, Moore... then whether Richi and Kulu count.

Big summer blow out required

If we sign Mbeumo then I could see us selling both Richarlison and Son. Gill and Soloman we'll be sold too

Of course every manager is a risk. You can only determine the level of risk when you understand the objectives of the club. If the objective is to stay in the top half of the PL at all cost i.e 6th - 10th then Frank's your man.

Dude he has had one job in the PL. You cannot seriously be judging what his entire managerial ethos will be for the rest of his career based on one appointment. Thats insane.

Our definition of insanity is miles apart. He's 51. He's nearer the end of his career than the start. He's ethos is well known based on his entire career... which is why he's never had a top job.
