I don't want to be mean but isn't it kind of genuinely scary how easily charismatic leaders are able to enchant people with fools gold. It was always there right in front of their eyes. The poor coaching the incoherent messaging the obvious flaws in the ACTUAL soccer. Yet here they are still tilting at windmills. I think the implications for wider society are terrifying. We were building NOTHING under Postecoglou.Because he was building nothing. There were no patterns of play, no players were really improving and we'd got 78 pts from his last 66 league games. If you have so little faith that its see how it goes then you have your answer on whether retaining him is a good idea.
The cup win was great but lets not kid ourselves that the draw wasn't massively favourable. We had the 2nd highest wage bill of all the teams in it and were favourites from the off. Thats fine, we did the job and you need a bit of luck to win a cup but we wont have that next season and our record against the better sides over 18 months is utterly abysmal. Add in the constant injuries, the spats with fans and journos there is no question it was the right time and it was for him as well.
High Blood pressure, but expected for his ageSorry if covered before - how is Thomas Frank's injury record?
If Levy can save money on the announcement then that will be what the hold up is
What are we saying improvement is though? Top 10? Top 5? 16th?
What I really struggled to understand is all the pundits being outraged that Ange was sacked despite winning a trophy. Its as if over the course of a season a single scrappy deflected goal changed everything. We were 17th best last season and we were 2nd best in the final according to all stats except one (the one that counts admittedly). What I'm saying is had we lost that game, would the expectations be vastly different now?
So how to you quantify success, Ange won nothing in his first season. But we're expecting Frank to do better than that because we won a trophy last year?
We also need to consider that the trophies we're contending for this year have a higher standard of teams in them.
I can't stand Levy but I don't buy into the idea he's the reason we have failed in so many finals. How did he do in his next season? Oh that's right he was gone by then wasn't he?
Burkinshaw won the '84 Uefa, Pleat got to the '87 FA cup final and League Cup semi-finals, and finished 3rd, Venables won the 1991 FA cup final, Pochettino got to the Champions League final, and finished 4th, Mourinho got to the League Cup final even Bill Nich who got to the '74 Uefa final. What do they all have in common?
They were no longer Spurs manager by the end of the next season. It's not just Levy and Enic. It's the club itself, consistently failing to reward success year after year. Constantly chasing after the shiny new thing, rather than patiently trying to build a legacy. It's in our DNA.
It's who we are mate.
He literally sacked Jose right before one, our chances increase ten fold had Jose been in charge of that final against City!I can't stand Levy but I don't buy into the idea he's the reason we have failed in so many finals.
He needs to get 5th as a minimum this year.
The trophy is a big ask given the history of this club. Right now Levy is at the wheel, very few managers have managed to overcome him and win something, including some of the very best
Is that why they modelled the South Stand on the ‘Yellow Wall’ at Dortmund? That’s why you see the club resist any movement to get singing sections or allow the hardcore supporters to sit/stand together to make noise. It’s not meant to be empowering for fans, it’s meant to be empowering for his authority over the club.
Gallagher a Chelsea captain was no more likely to come to us than Kane going to Chelsea, even if Chelsea would have sold him to us. Neto was injury prone and with our injury problems would have been a mistake. Eze did not impress me when he played for England last summer and could not force himself into the starting 11. He has improved since but still not an England starter.Nearly all managers Conte aside will say they are happy with the transfers, they aren’t going to burn their relationship with their boss unless for good reason. Last summer we wants Gallagher, Eze and Neto linked by multiple media and I believe also decent source like Ali Gold and we got none of them. Ange made his own fucks up but I can fully see how Gallagher who is a pressing machine and Neto who is a proper out and out winger would improve his system considerably. There might be good reason for the failure, ie we don’t have the cash and Joe won’t give us any but you have to accept that we are buying players currently on a low wage policy which means we mostly get either kids or average seniors. Wages are just as big an expense as the fee so if we are increasing fees and lowering the wages That will still significantly impact the backing we give to any manager.
If we are going to go down the route of buying potential for a low wage strategy then you need a Pochettino type manager who is all about player improvement. I hope the club is smart enough to buy out all of Thomas Franks coaches as we will need a big coaching set up to do that. It’s a workable strategy with good coaching, good scouting and time but we have to do it properly.

Alright, that's one.He literally sacked Jose right before one, our chances increase ten fold had Jose been in charge of that final against City!
Ange's trophy win feels a bit like the end of The Exorcist where the priest defeats the demon by letting it possess him and then throws himself out of the bedroom window. He needs to get 5th as a minimum this year.

He got Bford to the Carabao cup semi finals, Jose M beat him 2-0 at home, just one leg that yearIt will say a lot about Frank if we sacrifice the Carabao & FA Cups.
I personally want to see us go all out for the FA Cup.
